Elliptical domes and hewn wooden beams sculpt the ceilings, reflecting soft colors onto curving walls. A long, narrow stairway wrapped with windows and skylights is a serene connection to the second floor ''Moroccan' inspired suite with domed fireplace and hand-sculpted tub, and "French Country" inspired suite with a sunny balcony and oval shower. A curving bridge flies through the high living room with sparkling glass railings and overlooks onto sensuously shaped built in sofas. At the third floor windows wrap every space with balconies, light and views, linking indoors to the distant mountains, the morning sun and the bubbling jacuzzi. At the rooftop terrace domes and chimneys join the cozy seating for intimate gatherings.

The chic design of the Bubble lounge chair is perfect as a single chair or an arrangement of several. All pieces are constructed with a rust and corrosion proof aluminum frame and have a baked on enamel finish. The frame is wrapped with Shintotex woven polyurethane resin wicker which is highly resistant to all weather and everyday wear and tear. The cushions are made with a quick drying outdoor rated foam and covered with Sunbrella® outdoor acrylic fabric that has excellent resistance to color fading by the sun. The zippered covers can be spot cleaned or easily removed and machine washed.

Dark gray tones are juxtaposed with bright shades of yellow, green, and orange in this funky and fun living room. Framed white windows emphasize the view while nature-inspired patterns and organic décor blur the lines between the indoors and out. A contemporary chandelier serves as a statement piece while a white mantel and stone fireplace create a strong focal point within the room.

Originally a nearly three-story tall 1920’s European-styled home was turned into a modern villa for work and home. A series of low concrete retaining wall planters and steps gradually takes you up to the second level entry, grounding or anchoring the house into the site, as does a new wrap around veranda and trellis. Large eave overhangs on the upper roof were designed to give the home presence and were accented with a Mid-century orange color. The new master bedroom addition white box creates a better sense of entry and opens to the wrap around veranda at the opposite side. Inside the owners live on the lower floor and work on the upper floor with the garage basement for storage, archives and a ceramics studio. New windows and open spaces were created for the graphic designer owners; displaying their mid-century modern furnishings collection. A lot of effort went into attempting to lower the house visually by bringing the ground plane higher with the concrete retaining wall planters, steps, wrap around veranda and trellis, and the prominent roof with exaggerated overhangs. That the eaves were painted orange is a cool reflection of the owner’s Dutch heritage. Budget was a driver for the project and it was determined that the footprint of the home should have minimal extensions and that the new windows remain in the same relative locations as the old ones. Winter gardening in the warm! If you are lucky to have a greenhouse and one that you can heat, then you can enjoy gardening right through the winter months. If you don't have a heater then you can buy horticultural bubble wrap. Remember you still need good ventilation to prevent fungal diseases open vents on sunnier days and close at night. You can grow a variety of salad crops and keep eating healthily all through the winter months as well as bring tender plants in to overwinter.
