These fun-loving homeowners were referred by past clients during a mutual friend’s 40th Birthday party. Dane and his team were originally hired to shift a few rooms around when their son left for college. “Dane created well-functioning spaces for all, spreading color along the way. And he didn’t waste a thing. The homeowner, who has since tasked the designer with revamping the roof deck, characterizes the updates as “crisp” and “sharp.” Austin says, “I look at every element and ask, ‘Is it special, interesting, and unique?’” Now, every room is all of the above.” Project designed by Boston interior design Dane Austin Design. Old-World Charm in Alabama Private Residence / Mountain Brook, Alabama Architect: Jeffrey Dungan Builder: Bradford Residential Building Company E. F. San Juan created and supplied stair parts, exterior beams, brackets, rafters, paneling, and exterior moulding for this residence in the charming community of Mountain Brook, Alabama. Challenges: The most significant challenge on this project was the curved stair system just inside the main entrance. Its unique starting newel also served as a lamppost that bathes the foyer in a warm, welcoming light. Each piece of millwork supplied for this stunning residence needed to reflect the Old English village–inspired town while upholding modern standards of excellence. Solution: We worked with our stair parts partner, Oak Pointe, to build the white oak newel components for the main stairway, then we customized them further by hand at the E. F. San Juan plant. The details include a Gothic relief and the tapered radius section of the newel’s upper half. The result is truly beautiful and serves as the focal point of this old-world stair system. Chic is a French word associated with stylishness, while Rustic means related to, or suitable for the country.Together, Rustic Chic is an interior design alchemy, the chic suggesting culture, fashion and trendiness, while the Rustic element idealizes a natural pastoral charm. This style tends to reclaim the old, and reinvent materials characterized by imperfect finishes. Rough-hewn finishes, marks, divots, scratches and imperfections are purposeful. The materials themselves often provide historical reference (either real or imagined) and are incorporated to balance hardness (think steel, iron and brick) with the softness of modern furniture and softgoods. Exposed brick walls can be a key component of this look, but wallpapers can do the job if you aren’t fortunate enough to have the real thing. Scaffold planks, exposed conduit, timber and fencing can be added to create a depth of character; and when paired with modern styled furnishings and accoutrements – this is a fresh, nostalgic minded trend that we’ll be seeing well through 2020.

The architect Niva Litvak is combining natural materials and performance capabilities in a private residence in Haifa, which characterize Knekash's activity. The result is an expression of originality and innovation in a beautiful project. The bamboo is used by the architect to design an impressive and spacious kitchen with a large island in its center. The kitchen cabinets are all made of three-layer bamboo panels, which blend well with the rough stone floor and the worktop surface. The large open floor plan is highlighted by tall vaulted ceilings and doors to the back patio. The patio, covered by a 14’ cantilevered roof, is ideal for outdoor dining and entertaining as it leads to the pool and outdoor shower. Construction of this project was completed in 2016.
