This dark, dreary kitchen was large, but not being used well. The family of 7 had outgrown the limited storage and experienced traffic bottlenecks when in the kitchen together. A bright, cheerful and more functional kitchen was desired, as well as a new pantry space. We gutted the kitchen and closed off the landing through the door to the garage to create a new pantry. A frosted glass pocket door eliminates door swing issues. In the pantry, a small access door opens to the garage so groceries can be loaded easily. Grey wood-look tile was laid everywhere. We replaced the small window and added a 6’x4’ window, instantly adding tons of natural light. A modern motorized sheer roller shade helps control early morning glare. Three free-floating shelves are to the right of the window for favorite décor and collectables. White, ceiling-height cabinets surround the room. The full-overlay doors keep the look seamless. Double dishwashers, double ovens and a double refrigerator are essentials for this busy, large family. An induction cooktop was chosen for energy efficiency, child safety, and reliability in cooking. An appliance garage and a mixer lift house the much-used small appliances. An ice maker and beverage center were added to the side wall cabinet bank. The microwave and TV are hidden but have easy access. The inspiration for the room was an exclusive glass mosaic tile. The large island is a glossy classic blue. White quartz countertops feature small flecks of silver. Plus, the stainless metal accent was even added to the toe kick! Upper cabinet, under-cabinet and pendant ambient lighting, all on dimmers, was added and every light (even ceiling lights) is LED for energy efficiency. White-on-white modern counter stools are easy to clean. Plus, throughout the room, strategically placed USB outlets give tidy charging options.

The open kitchen is the heart of the apartment. The island maintains a soft role as the anchor of the area and flashes principles of purity and simplicity with its white Caesarstone countertop. The same countertop material is placed on the remaining counter space, and encounters an exquisite backsplash made of Carrara Herringbone. The backsplash climbs from countertop to the ceiling allowing it to blend well with nearby hues and material palettes. The living room liquor cabinet wraps around into the kitchen and greets the custom made pantry. The pantry not only offers more space for storage, but it also engages the child by allowing it to draw on the chalkboard material placed on the inside of the doors.

These empty nesters decided to downsize when their last child left for college. Having lived in a very tarditional home for years, the homeowners saw this as an opportunity to live a totally new lifestyle. Clean, contemporary, and less fussy was the overall theme of this remodel.

This Jack n Jill bathroom serves the guest bedroom as well as the clients young daughter. With a lot of thought we were able to get a full suite in here. The spacious shower has an adjustable head for different heights, it is tiled in 12x12 sheets of marble, the ceiling is also tiled. For the floors i chose a herringbone design to give a flow from room to room. The custom made vanity has antiqued mirrored door inserts which pick up on the star mirrored chandelier. I had been carrying this wallpaper with me from England for about 13 years! The client fell in love with it and we decided to use the little star print, it looks as though it's been there forever.

Embracing the challenge of grounding this open, light-filled space, our Aspen studio focused on comfort, ease, and high design. The built-in lounge is flanked by storage cabinets for puzzles and games for this client who loves having people over. The high-back Living Divani sofa is paired with U-Turn Benson chairs and a "Rabari" rug from Nanimarquina for casual gatherings. The throw pillows are a perfect mix of Norwegian tapestry fabric and contemporary patterns. In the child's bedroom, we added an organically shaped Vitra Living Tower, which also provides a cozy reading niche. Bold Marimekko fabric colorfully complements more traditional detailing and creates a contrast between old and new. We loved collaborating with our client on an eclectic bedroom, where everything is collected and combined in a way that allows distinctive pieces to work together. A custom walnut bed supports the owner's tatami mattress. Vintage rugs ground the space and pair well with a vintage Scandinavian chair and dresser. Combining unexpected objects is one of our favorite ways to add liveliness and personality to a space. In the little guest bedroom, our client (a creative and passionate collector) was the inspiration behind an energetic and eclectic mix. Similarly, turning one of our client's favorite old sweaters into pillow covers and popping a Native American rug on the wall helped pull the space together. Slightly eclectic and invitingly cozy, the twin guestroom beckons for settling in to read, nap or daydream. A vintage poster from Omnibus Gallery in Aspen and an antique nightstand add period whimsy.

Transitional half bath for the families children give them ample storage space, and double sinks for each child to get ready in the morning. Porcelain tile and Venatino quartz give this space clean lines and ample natural lighting,

This Urbanized Farmhouse look is a compromise between spouses. He does the cooking, she wanted it to have a certain "flavor"......with a little bit of compromise from both, they have a FANTASTIC new space! From a very disfunctional kitchen to a space that allows for the "sous chef"(youngest child) to help out dad & lots of area for prep, clean up, storage & seating. The "man" space is the gray stained cherry wood & then add in mixture of off white painted cabinetry w/a touch of blue.......classic!

Bathroom - contemporary double-sink bathroom idea in Calgary

This is actually the second time Total Renos has done this kitchen. The owner of the company used to live in this house as a child. When he got into Renovations and cabinet making he renovated his parents kitchen for them. The before pictures show this beautiful Blue Wash kitchen. It was nice to go back and update this now outdated kitchen. Our Clients chose White Shaker Cabinetry, with a light Grey Quartz, and 4x12 grey subway tiles. We took out the bulkhead and added Top Box and Crown as well as updated the railing and lighting.

The kitchen was expanded in this 1930's home to be more functional for a 21st century growing family. It was important to our client to maintain the charm and the architectural authenticity she loved growing up as a child. One of the more challenging features was rebuilding the beautiful lead glass windows so they would be both historically accurate as well as functional for today's climate extremes. Another challenge was recreating the black and white tile floor. Each tile was custom cut to achieve the desired look. A custom made built-in bench and cushion were made for the breakfast nook, complete with storage drawers beneath.

This bathroom is a great jack and jill for children. Each child gets their own sink with a shared shower and toilet. Grey porcelain tile floor ensures easy clean up with messes and the painted cabinet fronts are also easy to wipe down. Keeping the children's bathrooms clean and simple guarantees you will not have to change it over time as the children grow older.

In early 2022, Mitchell & Best was contacted by a homeowner residing in a brick end-unit townhome that was originally built in 1979. The client was a friend of the company through prior business dealings and had originally considered a new custom single-family home through Mitchell & Best Next Door. After months of consideration and realization that they loved their current location and neighborhood, this couple – both attorneys and parents of a young child and a beloved elderly pet – decided to stay put and figure out how to make the floorplan better fit their family’s needs. The project’s Scope of Work included: Main Level - The plan re-organized the main floor, giving significantly more cooking, entertainment, and functional working space to the kitchen. All-new appliances, cabinetry, countertops, and extensive tile work were installed. The original oversized den was opened to the kitchen to create a generous dining space in the front of the house where natural light comes in. At the rear of the house, adjacent to the kitchen, a walk-up butler’s pantry/bar was created, and a new space was carved out for a private office accessed by a glass-front French pocket door. The office cabinetry was customized for the client’s needs with a built-in desk, bookshelves and sliding printer shelf. The Powder Room was also re-worked and with new plumbing and vanity is unrecognizable from its former self. Upper Level – In the Owner’s Bedroom, a deep closet was added with two sets of double doors. Most significantly on the upper level, the Owner’s Bathroom was completely re-worked to provide a wet room for the shower and free-standing tub. Spacious double vanity and a private water closet with pocket door completed the room. The Hall Bath was also gutted and re-worked to eliminate a tub and create a spacious shower. The two secondary bedrooms were re-worked slightly, including the elimination of a window seat that created a niche for a large desk. Lower Level – Original plans did not call for this area to be touched, as work had been done in the basement a few years before. However, as other work was underway, the homeowner decided they wanted the laundry room to rise to the quality level of the rest of the home’s renovations. This resulted in a beautiful and functional new mudroom with built-in cubbies and storage, laundry sink and stacked washer/dryer. Whole House – Mitchell & Best installed brand-new hardwood flooring, including a custom herringbone pattern in the foyer. New stair treads, handrails, carpet runner, light fixtures, interior two-panel doors, and interior hardware gave the entire house the look and feel of a brand-new home! This classic white kitchen sets a beautiful backdrop for the homeowners fun black and white Mackenzie-Childs collection and the 7' x 10' Persian Tabrez rug in Herati design. Countertops of leathered Delicatus Supreme on clean white drawer style cabinetry surround the Wolf cooktop. Off-white 4 x 12 subway tile backsplash is handmade in US by Sonoma Tilemaker. Sink is Truffle colored Silgranit by Blanco. Faucet is polished chrome Hans Grohe 'Focus' Model 04505000. The wall color is Benjamin Moore #176 Goldtone. Love the glass pulls and knobs as finishing touches!
