Our client’s goal was to create a small, high-performance, healthy home for herself and her teenage son while providing a place for her father to age in place. An attached private accessory dwelling provides a space for him as well as flexibility in the future. The new home was designed to minimize its footprint on site, made smaller than the original 1930’s house.
Embracing adaptability and efficiency, the residence includes two dwellings: a one-bedroom 795 square-foot accessory dwelling at the lower grade and a two-story 1330 square-foot primary dwelling located above. Involved in all aspects of project execution, our client oversaw the process by living in a used trailer parked in the backyard throughout the project’s construction. Family-Share focused on maximizing the footprint’s performance, access to natural light and the health of the occupants. Sustainable features include high-performance glazing, solar preheat for domestic and hot water in-floor heating and reclaimed fir car decking rainscreen siding.

This home is a typical suburban home in a planned community in Katy, Texas (outside of Houston). We took the existing pre-fab builder-grade stained cabinets and refaced them with poplar raised panel doors and drawer fronts. We extended the island and added the spindles. We added decorative feet to the cabinet bases. We installed custom panels on the new Jenn-Air appliances. We added decorative corbels under the bar and in the butler's pantry. The cabinets were painted with a base color of Sherwin Williams Macadamia (SW 6142) and then glazed with Van Dyke Brown (SW 70471). A clear sealer coat was then applied. The island was painted Storm Cloud (SW 6249) and then faux-finished with the same technique. The backsplash tile is from Arizona Tile and is called San Mateo Split Face.

This tiny home is located on a treelined street in the Kitsilano neighborhood of Vancouver. We helped our client create a living and dining space with a beach vibe in this small front room that comfortably accommodates their growing family of four. The starting point for the decor was the client's treasured antique chaise (positioned under the large window) and the scheme grew from there. We employed a few important space saving techniques in this room... One is building seating into a corner that doubles as storage, the other is tucking a footstool, which can double as an extra seat, under the custom wood coffee table. The TV is carefully concealed in the custom millwork above the fireplace. Finally, we personalized this space by designing a family gallery wall that combines family photos and shadow boxes of treasured keepsakes. This area had been previously unused, and was a bare wall on the way through to the bedroom. We decided to make it a dedicated dressing table for the homeowner, as the bathroom did not have enough room for all her hair and make-up and jewellery requirements!

Here is a wide angle view of the office with a large desk providing storage on both sides. The desk is big enough to accomadate all the stuff that us girls bring in with room for the bag, tea and some pretty decor. Functionally the drawers help keep her organized and the light from the windows give her a peak into the greenery from the yard beyond.

This beautiful French-inspired kitchen designed by Curtis Lumber, Inc. pairs glacier white cabinetry with a French bleu island. Decorative molding adds a layer of elegance to the traditional kitchen cabinets by Wellborn. The classic subway tile provides a subtle backdrop for the grey and white patterned tiles to take center stage, creating a timeless backsplash. The island houses the microwave and pullout storage solutions. Photos property of Curtis Lumber, Inc.

Enduring and comfortable describes the Montague grouping. With its rolled paneled arms and semi-attached pillow back the Montague grouping conveys casual elegance and comfort.

Our client saw our Miraloma Modern project and fell head over heels — to the extent that they inquired about replicating the design for their home. We honed in on elements they loved about the Miraloma Modern project and created a new design that incorporates their specific design perspective for a modern, yet timeless kitchen that felt down to earth. Her love for woods and an interesting backsplash served as the jumping off point for the project.
The lilac marble backsplash and countertops pushed the clients' design sensibilities. Although theyt did not initially plan to incorporate violet tones into the kitchen, the couple both (naturally) loved the color. The dramatic lilac veining is juxtaposed with the client’s proclivity for handcrafted works, including the Bantam Mini Ceramic Pendants by Dumais Made that are positioned above the island and the hand-blown Smoke Glass Arc Pendant by Allied Maker in the Breakfast Room.
Soft, wood elements are found throughout the space with the refinished existing oak wood floors and custom white oak cabinetry, while subtle nods to wood are found in the lighting fixtures.
