SeaThru is a new, waterfront, modern home. SeaThru was inspired by the mid-century modern homes from our area, known as the Sarasota School of Architecture. This homes designed to offer more than the standard, ubiquitous rear-yard waterfront outdoor space. A central courtyard offer the residents a respite from the heat that accompanies west sun, and creates a gorgeous intermediate view fro guest staying in the semi-attached guest suite, who can actually SEE THROUGH the main living space and enjoy the bay views. Noble materials such as stone cladding, oak floors, composite wood louver screens and generous amounts of glass lend to a relaxed, warm-contemporary feeling not typically common to these types of homes. Flagstone is one of the best materials for patios primarily due to its narrow packed joints that allow water to permeate instead of running off. Flagstone patios also have a very natural, organic look due to their shape and earthy shades of browns, reds, grays and blues. The most common types of flagstone used for paving patios are sandstone, slate and limestone. Flagstone provides a durable and naturally slip-resistant patio surface that will last for years.

Homes that are big and luxurious are now emerging in the fields of the Hamptons, and this young couple decided to invest in one! They were drawn to the strong construction and the generous space the home offered, as well as the large exterior they found perfect for their young child. These clients wanted to offer an outdoor environment which they don't have during the week while staying in their Soho loft. We went with a warm modern design, combining clean lines with earth tones and organic elements. The wooden accents anchor down the feeling of coziness as well as matches the beautiful exterior of the home.

We gave this kitchen a facelift by refacing their old dark oak kitchen cabinets with a light mocha paint grade wood. The client coordinated with the existing countertop, but changed out her hardware to complete the look of her new kitchen.

After their brand new construction was completed, this family had a beautiful and comfortable home that truly fit their needs. However, this new construction lacked an outdoor living space, which left the backyard feeling stark and bare. With this blank slate, we were able to create a relaxing environment for this family to enjoy. Faced with the challenge of using every square-inch of this small space, Native Edge was able to design a landscape that left this family worry-free. We incorporated a low maintenance composite decking system, modern raised metal planters, and a bubbling urn water feature to tie this peaceful landscape together. The poor drainage of the lot gave us the opportunity to create a striking cat walk and drainage feature, which left ample room for their vegetable and herb garden hobby. There is even a nook for the family dog to enjoy!

THEME This playroom takes advantage of a high ceiling, wide floor space and multiple windows to create an open, bright space where a child can be a pirate boarding a captured ship, a chef in a cafe, a superhero flying down the slide, or just a kid swinging on a tire. FOCUS The tower and slide promise fun for all — even from the doorway. The multi-level structure doubles the play area; leaving plenty of room for a workbench, LEGO table, and other mobile toys. Below the tower, there is a chalkboard wall and desk for the young artist, as well as a toy microwave and food items for the budding chef. Brilliant primary colors on the walls and a sky blue ceiling with clouds create an entirely pleasant environment. STORAGE To accommodate a multitude of toys of varying sizes and shapes, the room is equipped with easily accessible, mobile and stationary storage units. Colorcoordinated baskets, buckets, crates and canvas bags make cleaning up a bit easier and keep the room organized. Mindful that the number and types of toys change as children age, the shelving unit features floating boards and adjustable pegs. GROWTH Designed as a family playroom with growth in mind, the room suits the needs of children of various ages. Different elements can be added or retired, and older children can keep more mature toys and games on higher shelves, safely out of a younger sibling’s reach. Lower shelving is reserved for the youngest child’s toys, books, and other treasures. SAFETY To minimize the bumps and bruises common in playrooms, exposed screws and bolts are covered by plastic molds or rope twisted around metal joiners. Elastic netting protects openings on the tower’s upper levels, while playroom activities can be monitored via any television in the house. Smaller kids are kept off the upper levels with the use of climbing net and rock wall anchors.

This project incorporated the main floor of the home. The existing kitchen was narrow and dated, and closed off from the rest of the common spaces. The client’s wish list included opening up the space to combine the dining room and kitchen, create a more functional entry foyer, and update the dark sunporch to be more inviting. The concept resulted in swapping the kitchen and dining area, creating a perfect flow from the entry through to the sunporch. A double-sided stone-clad fireplace divides the great room and sunporch, highlighting the new vaulted ceiling. The old wood paneling on the walls was removed and reclaimed wood beams were added to the ceiling. The single door to the patio was replaced with a double door. New furniture and accessories in shades of blue and gray is at home in this bright and airy family room.
