THE DOOR NAME ORIGIN - "ALLUMINIO ELIVIA VERTICAL WOOD GRAIN 4HS"
Of all the interior door models in the Elivia collection, this one is perhaps the most unapologetically elegant. Why? Hmm … That which is self-evident can be the most difficult to explain. Is it because it is built using the latest breakthroughs in interior door making technology? Look at the finish: the process of applying it utilizes something called “stretching” by professionals, which is to say that instead of simply slapping the finish on top of the interior door’s surface, our company fuses (for lack of a better word) the materials (on molecular level, no less), the result being that the finished product is more warp-resistant, scratch-resistant, and fade-proof than any interior door put together in the past. This is especially important in climates known for their high humidity levels. Yes, but this has more to do with engineering than aesthetics, right? Okay, so, is this interior door super-elegant because ... Show more!
FINISH: WALNUT
When it comes to interior door finishes, walnut may not be king per se, since “different folk have different views,” as the poet said, and it behooves a proper collection of finishes to be thoroughly democratic; but, but … you could view walnut as an important majority leader descended from royalty – like, say, Louis Napoleon back when he was still an elected official and not, as he eventually came to style himself, Napoleon III.
Strictly speaking, a walnut is the seed of a drupaceous nut, and not a true nut in the botanical sense. It is native to Persia (walnut oil is a staple in Iranian cuisine to this day) and North America, even though approximately one half of the world’s production today is done in China.
That said, one of its more historically curious uses would be the production of ink and dyes. Those are made, or used to be made, at least, from the husk surrounding the nut. The ink could be used to produce drawings – or darken paper to make it look older. It has (as it turned out by the by) excellent archival properties. It was used liberally by many capable and honest artists in the past.
A keen observer of the human condition, a Florentine named Leonardo da Vinci never left his house (which featured some pretty interesting interior doors, but that’s a story for another day) … never left it without a vial – and a sketch book.
As he took leisurely strolls around the streets and piazzas, he observed folks – socializing, arguing, fighting, striking bargains, and gossiping. Let us mention in passing – and this is merely an opinion, mind you – that his sketches seem to be a great deal livelier than his portraits, which for the most part adhere to the epoch’s somewhat mawkish standards and the algebraic, rather than harmonious, approach to depicting humans. The perpetual beguiling mystery of Mona Lisa’s smile is undoubtedly magnificent, but it is the Tuscan polymath’s quick yet amazingly insightful drawings that give us an idea – oftentimes a very comprehensive one – of what everyday life was truly like in Florence in the Sixteenth Century. An old man gloating at someone’s misfortune, two passionate merchants arguing over the price of some highly important delivery, a young woman lamenting the lack of decent men whom a reasonable person could view as husband material, and on and on – it’s all there in Leonardo’s sketches characterized by masterful lines and elegant shading despite the obvious – and necessary – impetuosity of each sketch. So precious and brilliant are those casual masterpieces that, had the scientifically inclined fellow eliminated the need for outdoor sketching by inventing photography, it would have been an historian’s immeasurable gain, certainly, but also an art lover’s great loss.
The idea behind our Walnut Finish is to invoke in the interior door owner a feeling of timeless historicity. Some things change, but others are forever. Stability is an important quality in an interior door, is it not?
Rembrandt van Rijn, who also used walnut ink extensively, was a studio artist, with only a few outdoor paintings in his legacy. Truth be told, he was a better draftsman than Leonardo, at least as far as technique goes (don’t let this get around). Well. He lived a century later and had the benefit of all the development art had undergone since the great Italian master. Just like these interior doors – your interior doors – are a huge improvement on anything that was available only twenty years ago, never mind a hundred years ago.
The “oscillation” of Rembrandt’s line, the delightful shift from the descriptive to the aesthetic stroke, makes his production in that category quite unique. Upon reaching artistic maturity, the stubborn Dutch master began to shun the unbroken contour line, which caused a lot of trouble for his drawings a century later, when dealers and collectors who wished to “update” his sketches to fit the current fashion had the audacity to “complete” Rembrandt’s pen-and-inks. Fortunately, some of the sketches escaped this sorry fate and have been preserved in their original glorious state to this day. Rembrandt’s mastery is yet another thing this interior door finish might remind you of each time you look at your doors.

In Cupertino, we recently completed an extensive remodeling project that transformed a dated home into a modern sanctuary. The project included a complete outdoor renovation with a lush lawn, spacious porch, and inviting patio. Inside, the living room was redesigned with a cozy fireplace and comfortable seating arrangements. The kitchen now features all-new wooden cabinets and countertops, providing ample storage and workspace. A vintage-style bathroom was remodeled with sleek black accessories and elegant lighting fixtures. An open kitchen layout fosters gatherings and social interaction, while a dedicated gym area promotes health and wellness. This comprehensive remodel reflects our commitment to craftsmanship and creating spaces that enhance luxury living.

Designed by Risa Boyer and built by Hammer & Hand, this comprehensive external and internal remodel updated the home with an open layout featuring clean, modern stylings throughout and custom cabinetry by Ben Klebba of Phloem Studio. The team transformed a dark side room into a luminous sunroom overlooking Oswego Lake, designed to highlight a large stained glass window created by the homeowner’s family. A new enclosed garden breezeway connects the house to the freestanding garage, where H&H added a creative work space.

Modern Citi Group helped Jane in remodeling her alcove studio in Midtown East. This comprehensive renovation project included a full remodel of the bathroom and kitchen, as well as updates to all rooms and closets.
The primary objective was to modernize the apartment while aligning it with the family's lifestyle and needs. The design challenge was to deliver modern aesthetics and functionality while keeping the project within budget.
The construction team completely revamped the kitchen, which featured new two-tone cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, elegant Vivid White quartz countertops, and Aria tile backsplash and flooring. Kitchen design finishes echoed the ones in the bathroom creating a cohesive modern look.
Bathroom remodel included converting the tub to a shower, installing a modern wall-mounted vanity, and replacing all fixtures. The shower area showcased an accent black & white Astoria wall tile, perfectly complemented by the subtle stone-looking Aria Ice porcelain tile on the floors and walls in the rest of the bathroom.
In just eight weeks, Jane and her family received a beautifully renovated, modern apartment with a cohesive style and finishes that fit their lifestyle and expectations.

A comprehensive view of the kitchen, showcasing the full layout with green lower cabinets, white upper cabinets, a large island with seating, and modern pendant lighting. The room's design emphasizes openness and functionality, with a seamless flow from the kitchen to the adjacent dining and living areas. This image showcases a small bar nook with a minimalist design. It features a built-in sink with a brushed brass faucet, floating glass shelves holding clear glassware, and a decorative amber glass vase. The overall aesthetic is clean and modern, with a focus on simplicity and functionality.

This stunning bungalow with fully finished basement features a large Muskoka room with vaulted ceiling, full glass enclosure, wood fireplace, and retractable glass wall that opens to the main house. There are spectacular finishes throughout the home. One very unique part of the build is a comprehensive home automation system complete with back up generator and Tesla charging station in the garage.

Custom-built in the early eighties, this contemporary home was cloaked in all brown board siding with brown windows and a cumbersome street-facing carport. The current owners had raised their family there on property that borders serene conservation land. Now they were ready for a new, brighter exterior look that would include all new windows to take in the exquisite view, unobscured by the fog of failing window seals; new siding that wouldn’t be subject to woodpecker wear and tear; a refinished screen porch; a new garage to replace the undersized carport; and new entry access. On the interior, they wanted the new, fresh vibe to extend to the design of three renovated modern bathrooms.
In response, KHS proposed black-framed windows throughout in simpler configurations; fiber-cement (and PVC) exterior cladding in three textures to differentiate functions and features; a unifying light-gray and white palette teamed with clear-finished mahogany/sapele to carry across the exterior as well as the bathroom renovations; a stream-lined screen porch with cable rails; a new shed-roofed garage to resolve the exterior massing; and a new covered walkway entrance delivering those arriving into a repurposed interior space.
Once the overall design was resolved, the owners elected to complete the work in phases over several years. Phase 1 included renovating the powder room, guest bathroom, and primary bathroom, and refreshing the screen porch. See the reconceived modern bathrooms here on the KHS website. Next came constructing the new garage and entry, which on the interior included new floor tile and a new entry wall-paneling system to conceal electrical, solar, and security panels/controls. Phase III involved installing the rest of the new windows and completing the comprehensive new exterior cladding and palette to tie the earlier phases together. To cap it off, KHS worked with the owners to select new clean-lined furnishings for the living area in colors inspired by their coastal view.

The homeowners, having recently moved into their new home in the heart of St. Paul, were dissatisfied with the state of their backyard and sought to transform it into a private oasis. Our client cherished childhood memories of spending time with her family on a porch, so bringing that nostalgia to life for her own family was important to her.
To achieve this, the project included the construction of a beautiful 3 and 1/2 season porch addition, which the client preferred over their initial idea of a standard porch. This addition would allow for year-round enjoyment and relaxation.
The backyard redesign also featured new dining and lounging areas, a cozy fire pit for social gatherings, and a fixed walkway to the garage for added convenience. To enhance privacy, fences were added around the perimeter of the yard. Additionally, dedicated gardening areas were created to allow the client to cultivate their green space. An outdoor deck section specifically designed for a grill was incorporated, providing an ideal spot for outdoor cooking and entertaining. This comprehensive approach ensured enhanced privacy and created a serene retreat that seamlessly blends with the urban surroundings, providing the client with a tranquil escape right at home.

These homeowners were looking for a comprehensive landscape plan for their newly completed custom home. They wanted an extensive driveway, a planting plan that would provide privacy in some key areas while accentuating the style of the home, as well as a pool, fire feature, hot tub, new stone entrances, and a play center on artificial turf. We provided a design that brought together all these items with a very specific colour palette which we repeated throughout different elements.

This project focuses on a complete transformation of a narrow outdoor space into a functional, modern retreat. The centerpiece is a custom hardscape featuring large-format concrete pavers set in a striking diagonal grid, accented with high-quality synthetic turf strips for a lush, low-maintenance look year-round.
We addressed the side yard with a functional, aesthetically pleasing walkway using square pavers nestled in river rock, guided by professional low-voltage path lighting. The design is rounded out with a custom dark-stained pergola that provides architectural interest over the spa area and a comprehensive lighting package that highlights the home’s brickwork and mature trees, ensuring the space is just as inviting at night as it is during the day.

Schulte Design Build completed a comprehensive redesign of the kitchen, bathroom, and living space in a 1911 Phinney Ridge home. The remodel included transforming a previously unusual kitchen layout into a modern and functional space, opening up the flow to the dining and living spaces, and now features dark blue cabinetry that extends to the ceiling.
The kitchen also includes modern stainless-steel appliances, and the incorporation of wood elements with open shelving that adds warmth to the design. Large windows bring in natural light, highlighting the smooth transition between the kitchen and the adjoining living spaces.
