Client wanted a sauna that would get and stay hot and it needed to be built custom because of some spacing constraints in the garage. It needed to go in the corner so we built it around a structural post and underneath some shelving. Interior sauna ceilings were maxed out at 7.2 feet. Cedar floor to ceiling, redwood benches (24" top bench). Structure is roughly 6.5'x6.5'. Well insulated. Designed the size so client can laydown on the top bench. Given that is is in a garage with space constraints we weren't able to build in all the features we wanted but its still much better than a kit!

The "Holiday Home" represents a novel concept in small villa design, characterized by its unique approach to space division based on time and activities, challenging the traditional model of fixed walls delineating rooms. This design philosophy introduces a refreshing sense of liberation from daily constraints.

A stunning curved floating stairwell of African mahogany was hand-crafted to fit within the space and structural constraints of the home. I just love how the famous "sputnik" chandelier at the Metropolitan Opera House inspired the chrome and crystal pendant used here.

Another sightline was created from the dining room. The range alcove is framed by an arch inspired by the home's heritage detailing. Due to dimensional constraints, the arch is derivative of the home's other arches not a direct match.

Working with space constraints, this backyard has a grill built into bar area. Along with a gorgeous pool and a utility shed, the backyard still has plenty of room for relaxation and sun tanning. Paver Designs made an intricate, flowing pattern on the stone floor to bring every element of this backyard together.

Living room - contemporary living room idea in New York
Living room - contemporary living room idea in New York

The project encompassed design and build of the front and rear areas of the property as well as the building stone of the home. The project entailed front and rear hardscape, landscape, lighting, drainage, and irrigation.
The design was very challenging due to the size of the home and the overall space constraints of the lot and topography. The project was situated with a very severe slope in the rear yard with limited space as shown in the water feature area finished photography. Additionally, the project was challenging with respect to stormwater runoff and county specifics as it relates to infiltration requirements.

This is a narrow backyard in an older Los Gatos neighborhood. Included here are three 'before' images with corresponding 'after' images taken a year later. Because of setback and easement constraints the only location to house pool equipment was in the usable portion of the of the yard. Therefore, I designed an equipment room which doubles as the backdrop for outdoor entertainment.

Marge helped us create two beautiful kitchen spaces - one interior and an outdoor kitchen. She was able to listen to what we needed, work within existing site and space constraints and drew two beautiful and very functional spaces. The interior kitchen is one of a kind and the outdoor kitchen looks as though it has always been there - it is so well integrated with the existing architecture. I highly recommend her!

An alternating tread stair in a Vermont mountain home using half the footprint of a traditional stair, with an open tread and side wall system that lets exterior light pass through into the kitchen below. The constraint became the detail.

The most unique of all the condo renovations really shows off some fun materials and custom interiors. The sloped roof constraints provide opportunities for inventive design solutions, including a reading loft overlooking the living room. Thanks to Scott Booth for the great photography.

The stepped entrance, designed for flood zone area detached A.D.U., provided a much preferred direct street access. Keeping the budget constraints in mind, railing design was kept simple.
