Designed and built by Terramor Homes in Raleigh, NC. In continuing the retreat feel, the goal in the master bath was to achieve a spa like feel. Inspired to incorporate the spa together with the tone of the rest of the home, the main focal element was a gorgeous free standing oval tub centered in the room under the vault of the ceiling and an 8 foot tall and 5 foot wide casement window that overlooks the river and greenway area behind the home. Directly across, the 6 foot by 6 foot full glass and glass tile was located- sharing the view out of the large windows. Flanking the tub are the adult height cabinets with large square legs and a shelf underneath, similar to the spa look that is expected. A full height cabinet pantry was added to encourage storage or rolled towels, bathing accessories and additional storage as well. The entire room was finished with a chocolate brown, 18” x 12” tile, laid in a brick pattern and continued up the walls for the consistent and clean look. Centered in the vault, a large, linen drum pendant with chrome trim drops- bringing elegance to the space. Small shelves were built at the bottom of each side of the vaulted ceiling to house the LED lighting that shines up the vaults of the ceiling, again replicating natural day light at any time of day. H2D Architecture + Design developed a comprehensive vision for the renovation of this Bellevue residence, creating a cohesive master plan that can be implemented in phased construction to align with the homeowners' priorities, budget, and timeline. The first phase reimagined the primary suite, including a redesigned bathroom, reconfigured closet and bedroom. Strategic space planning enhanced the functionality and flow of each space while creating a serene, spa-inspired retreat tailored to the homeowners' lifestyle. Future phases will transform the home's main living areas through a complete reconfiguration of the kitchen, dining room, entry, and living room. “We selected IKD’s design services because we wanted to incorporate Semihandmade into our design and they recommended IKD.” She continues: “The design was made really easy with IKD. They used most of our wants and needs to design the kitchen. They were really helpful throughout! For the most part, installation went really well. We ran into a little snag with our concrete counter tops being a little too thick, but that was easily remedied by the contractor.” She concludes with simple advice for future IKEA remodelers. “Go for it! We worked closely with our client on extensive updates to create a modernized MCM gem. Extensive alterations include: - a completely redesigned floor plan to promote a more intuitive flow throughout - vaulted the ceilings over the great room to create an amazing entrance and feeling of inspired openness - redesigned entry and driveway to be more inviting and welcoming as well as to experientially set the mid-century modern stage - the removal of a visually disruptive load bearing central wall and chimney system that formerly partitioned the homes’ entry, dining, kitchen and living rooms from each other - added clerestory windows above the new kitchen to accentuate the new vaulted ceiling line and create a greater visual continuation of indoor to outdoor space - drastically increased the access to natural light by increasing window sizes and opening up the floor plan - placed natural wood elements throughout to provide a calming palette and cohesive Pacific Northwest feel - incorporated Universal Design principles to make the home Aging In Place ready with wide hallways and accessible spaces, including single-floor living if needed - moved and completely redesigned the stairway to work for the home’s occupants and be a part of the cohesive design aesthetic - mixed custom tile layouts with more traditional tiling to create fun and playful visual experiences - custom designed and sourced MCM specific elements such as the entry screen, cabinetry and lighting - development of the downstairs for potential future use by an assisted living caretaker - energy efficiency upgrades seamlessly woven in with much improved insulation, ductless mini splits and solar gain

This modern farmhouse located outside of Spokane, Washington, creates a prominent focal point among the landscape of rolling plains. The composition of the home is dominated by three steep gable rooflines linked together by a central spine. This unique design evokes a sense of expansion and contraction from one space to the next. Vertical cedar siding, poured concrete, and zinc gray metal elements clad the modern farmhouse, which, combined with a shop that has the aesthetic of a weathered barn, creates a sense of modernity that remains rooted to the surrounding environment. The Glo double pane A5 Series windows and doors were selected for the project because of their sleek, modern aesthetic and advanced thermal technology over traditional aluminum windows. High performance spacers, low iron glass, larger continuous thermal breaks, and multiple air seals allows the A5 Series to deliver high performance values and cost effective durability while remaining a sophisticated and stylish design choice. Strategically placed operable windows paired with large expanses of fixed picture windows provide natural ventilation and a visual connection to the outdoors.

The homeowners of this 1937 home needed an update to a hallway bathroom designated for use by their 2 young girls. The design was created to reflect the traditional style of their home, but we were also able to reflect the playfulness of the users by choosing a fun yet traditional, cement tile floor and a daughter approved pink-purple-mauve color on the walls. A pedestal sink was replaced with a vanity for future storage needs of the girls. In the end, the family has a traditional yet fun bathroom for the girls to grow older with and still classy enough for guests to use. Designer: Natalie Hanson.

Many, many holidays, birthdays, graduations, and life milestones were celebrated here with her brothers and sisters. This home was the hub for all life events and milestones. When her parents passed a few years ago, our client decided to purchase the home with plans of renovations and continuing the family traditions and celebrations she always loved. That's where we come in. Our job was to redesign the kitchen and bathroom into a functional space where family and friends could gather during the celebratory times and give it a rustic flare. Originally designed as a vacation and future retirement home, this craftsman style uses elements such as gabled dormers and simple gable roofs to invoke a bungalow style. With 4 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, this Cayuga Lake home features a mixture of timber frame elements with rich and detailed interior woodwork, prominently situated bluestone masonry fireplaces, many sitting and gathering areas that take advantage of both interior and outdoor spaces, and an open floor plan that uses wood trimmed archways, four-post columns on wood panel bases, and in-laid wood borders in the oak floors to create traditionally distinct living spaces such as the kitchen, dining room, and living room. The beautiful lake view is the focal point of these living areas; the archways that frame the dining room create a sense of movement as the archways continue to the exterior lake side wall, and the lakeside ceiling features a cathedral with skylights to bring in natural light as well as a timber frame truss with an arched center, framed with queen posts and with a stained tongue and groove wood ceiling with dropped wood trimmed breams.

The outdoor amenity was intentionally designed to be open, with screening from climbing plants on steel wires and timber posts, with potentially a translucent fabric in the future, to create a more cost-efficient yet utilitarian space by eliminating the need for walls.
