The client and designer had a chance to visit HGTV Dream Home in Florida for inspiration. A year later, working closely with the architect, builder and home owner, we created our clients Dream Home. While under construction, many discussions on furniture placement, accessories, and lighting culminated in making this a wonderful, casual, and comfortable home.

Avec Interiors, together with our valued client and builder partner 5blox, rejuvenates a dated and narrow and poorly functioning 90s bathroom. The project culminates in a tranquil sanctuary that epitomizes quiet luxury. The redesign features a custom oak vanity with an integrated hamper and extensive storage, polished nickel finishes, and artfully placed decorative wall niches. Functional elements harmoniously blend with aesthetic details, such as the captivating blue-green shower tile and the charming mini stars and cross tiles adorning both the floor and niches.

Rustic Farmhouse: Garvin-Weeks Farmstead The Garvin-Weeks Farmstead in beautiful North Reading, built c1790, has enjoyed a first floor makeover complete with a new kitchen, family room and master suite. Particular attention was given to preserve the historic details of the house while modernizing and opening up the space for today’s lifestyle. The open concept farmhouse style kitchen is striking with its antique beams and rafters, handmade and hand planed cabinets, distressed floors, custom handmade soapstone farmer’s sink, marble counter tops, kitchen island comprised of reclaimed wood with a milk paint finish, all setting the stage for the elaborate custom painted tile work. Skylights above bathe the space in natural light. Walking through the warm family room gives one the sense of history and days gone by, culminating in a quintessential looking, but fabulously updated new England master bedroom and bath. The elements of a sustainable habitat garden have been designed into the ¬lush landscape. One hundred percent of rainwater runoff is diverted into the two large raingardens which infiltrate stormwater runoff into the soil. After building up the soil with tons of organic amendments, we added permeable hardscape elements, a water feature, native and climate appropriate plants - including an exceedingly low-water Kurapia lawn - and drip irrigation with a smart timer. With these practices we’ve created a sumptuous wildlife habitat that has become a haven for migratory birds & butterflies.

The site of this single story residence is at the base of the Teton Mountain range with views of canyons and peaks. To respond to this topographical edge condition, the form of the primary living space rises to capture this view. The entry sequence begins by arrival into a south facing “courtyard” defined by the house and an outbuilding. A linear porch accessed from the garage or the exterior leads to the entry. This ‘tail’ of the scheme wraps around itself, culminating at the expansive glazed wall and terrace beyond. Project Year: 2008

The need for a productive and comfortable space was the motive for the study design. A culmination of ideas supports daily routines from the computer desk for correspondence, the worktable to review documents, or the sofa to read reports. The wood mantel creates the base for the art niche, which provides a space for one homeowner’s taste in modern art to be expressed. Horizontal wood elements are stained for layered warmth from the floor, wood tops, mantel, and ceiling beams. The walls are covered in a natural paper weave with a green tone that is pulled to the built-ins flanking the marble fireplace for a happier work environment. Connections to the outside are a welcome relief to enjoy views to the front, or pass through the doors to the private outdoor patio at the back of the home. The ceiling light fixture has linen panels as a tie to personal ship artwork displayed in the office.
