Elegant and Stunning, are just a few words to describe the remodeling project for this Chantilly, VA home. This Chantilly family, desired a colorful update to their outdated home which included wood type cabinetry and white walls. Our expert team redesigned their entire living, dining and kitchen spaces using a masterful combination of dark hardwood flooring, gray walls, marble style counter and island tops, and dark blue and white cabinetry throughout kitchen/living spaces. The kitchen/dining area is complete with pendant lighting, stainless steel appliances, and glass cabinet doors. The master bathroom was also completely redesigned to match the design of the living and kitchen spaces. Complete with new freestanding tub, open shower, and new double vanity. All these design features are among many others which have been combined to breathe new life for this beautiful family home.

2011 NARI CAPITAL COTY MERIT AWARD WINNER This couple lived in their colonial home in Burke, Virginia, for more than 20 years. Now that their children were grown and gone, it was time for them to pay more attention to their home. First on their list was to renovate their master bathroom. Tight and dysfunctional is how they described the existing space. The homeowners always dreamed of having a whirlpool, a large steam shower and a private toilet area. Importantly, they wanted to use the latest products and materials to bring the bathroom into the 21st Century. Starting with exotic granite and porcelain tile from floor to ceiling, the new design does just that. Then, a highly sophisticated steam shower using granite benches, a heavy glass enclosure, chrome faucets and a rain shower head was installed. Modern body spray heads are embedded in the wall tiles. The shower is complemented by a bubble, jetted whirlpool tub with granite surrounds. A modern double vanity with vessel sinks, a granite countertop, high end cabinets and stylish faucets rest along one wall. Custom-built, recessed mirrored medicine cabinets provide storage for necessities. In the end, the homeowners are thrilled with the outcome and never imagined that their old and dark looking small bath could ever be transformed into such beautiful bathroom.

2012 NARI CAPITAL COTY, FINALIST AWARD WINNER, RESIDENTIAL KITCHEN $50,000 to $100,000 “Crowded and disturbing” is how the woman of the house described this kitchen. A big peninsula with a huge range hood blocked the kitchen off from the breakfast room, a chimney style wall blocked off another side of the space and the doorways were too narrow. The result was a cramped feel with no traffic flow and a lack of usable storage. To remedy these issues, the remodeling plan called for regrouping all tall kitchen elements into a low visibility wall, eliminating the peninsula and then creating a natural path through the space using a middle island. Relocating the stove against the room’s back wall allowed the installation of a beautiful wood mantel hood and improved the work triangle. The side walls house beautiful custom white cabinets; one side housing the pantry, refrigerator and double wall ovens, the other the kitchen sink and dishwasher. The center island features a mahogany wood countertop and provides plenty of workspace above and storage below. Contrasting with the glazed cabinets, the woodwork is a highlight of the project and a key part of delivering on the homeowner’s desire for a bright, clean kitchen. They installed exotic mahogany floors that complement the center wood Island. The floors also had created a casual ambiance, especially against the soft lemon chiffon wall paint. The ultimate French country style kitchen was completed by furnishing the old breakfast area with casual seating rather than a formal table.

4 feet was all that was added to this kitchen, however, relocating the powder room and opening it up to the new family room addition made all the difference in the world. Described as serene by many that visit the morning sun floods the kitchen in the morning and the evening sun coming in from the family room and full southern exposure over the sink make the lighting somewhat unnecessary. The white beaded inset cabinets with traditional hardware were selected to keep the space in alignment with the design intent of the original 1920's detailing of the home. The lights over the island were salvaged from a 1920 brokerage house in Newark, NJ. the shade over the farmhouse sink was salvaged from the original home and a new fixture was made to showcase it. Hand painted ceramic tile was selected for the backsplash.

They tend to host family and friends and wanted a space that could fill their large backyard and yet be functional for the kids and adults. The contemporary straight lines of the pool match the interior of the house giving them a resort feel in the very own backyard! The large pergola is a perfect area to cool off in the shade while enjoying a large outdoor kitchen as well as an oversized fire pit for the cooler nights and roasting marshmallows. They wanted a wow factor as the pool is the main focal point from the living room, and the oversized wall and rain sheer did the trick!"

Once upon a time, there was a “Country” house that dreamed of one day being a ”Town” house with all the luxuries and delights of city life. Set on 52 acres and built in the 1970s, the kitchen was dark, dated and divided. You might describe the original space as “practical” where everything functioned properly but had no eye appeal. No glamour. Cue the designer, who took the inspiration the client had of the French countryside, and added cabinet details, mosaic tiles, chandeliers, top-of-the-line appliances, and a pop of pink to bring the vision to life. • The recessed cabinets doors and drawer faces, stain and detailed workmanship set tone and elegance for the room overall. • Everywhere you look you’ll find storage, storage and more storage, including a set of cabinets stretching across the top of the entry into the dining room, Lemans in each corner cabinet, and pull-out can storage. • The built-in coffee bar includes a pull-out tray to set your mug on while mixing your morning brew. • The custom dishwasher panel was made to match the cabinet doors perfectly. • Lighter colors were chosen to brighten the space and wider entry spaces bring in more natural light from other rooms. • Appliances were moved to make the space more user-friendly. Now the client enjoys the simple life in the country with its peace and security as well as the luxuries and dainties of the city all in one place – their home. The End.

A friend of mine described this design as Monocrome Mondrian. I agree! This was designed by Ben, in collaboration with the clients. They wanted something "different". The loft style apartment and asymmetrical room design was perfect for this piece! One of my favorites.
