Situated along the East River, this one bedroom, two bathroom apartment serves as an oasis for the Upper East Side home owner with carefully curated detail and breathtaking views. Her love of open, feng shui-inspired design set the stage for this complete apartment renovation. Upon entering the space, guests are greeted by an open, airy, and light-filled Foyer that was doubled in size for this transformation. The black metal wall glazing at the end of the foyer provides framed views of the teak wood dining table, black shell Eames dining chairs with walnut Eiffel legs, and a glamorous brass chandelier. It also gives guests a first hint at the industrial accents to anticipate throughout. Natural finished wide plank wood flooring leads guests into a contemporary open floor plan. Previously a cramped Dining Room and dated Kitchen, the space was opened up by removing dividing walls — transforming it into the perfect space for dinner parties and socializing. Featuring crisp white cabinetry with glass inserts and stainless steel appliances, the Kitchen is finished off with polished chrome hardware and fixtures to add a bit of sparkle throughout. Marble slab countertops with a waterfall edge and industrial globe pendants provide a stunning framed backdrop for the hand-carved mango wood counter stools. Just beyond the Kitchen; the Living Room warmly welcomes guests with a luxurious Milan shadow grey velvet sectional atop a plush ivory Moroccan area rug. This pairing is surrounded by luxurious accents like custom marble window sills, a cognac leather lounge chair, and an emerald green velvet ottoman, both detailed with sophisticated brass accents. Other moments of glamour are infused throughout, including a mirrored tray and accessories that sit on top of an industrial teak and black metal framed coffee table. The apartment’s luxury components are juxtaposed with unique custom framed art, curated and placed to speak to the personality of the home owner. The powder room is another nod to the client’s love of the modern, industrial aesthetic with black grouted subway tile, a black metal trimmed mirror, sconces and stunning Aztec-inspired black and white painted cement tile. No luxury design is complete without creation of spa-like places of respite. The master bathroom walls are clad in white quartz with a textured chevron marble feature wall. The Carrara marble hexagon floors provide a luxurious platform beneath the home owner’s feet as she unwinds with a glass of wine in the spa bathtub made for deep soaking.

This custom Dallas backyard cabana features a gable with hip roof, as well as an attached shed roof atop the eat-in space. Speaking of space, this cabana boasts separate areas for cooking, eating, and TV viewing and conversation. These homeowners can host outdoor dinner parties, without relying one iota on interior kitchen or dining amenities. The outdoor kitchen area includes a Turtle grill and freezer with stainless steel accessories, such as a towel holder and access panel with drawers. The kitchen is outfitted with extra electrical outlets for added convenience. In addition, the space features a cozy custom stone fireplace.

The residence on the third level of this live/work space is completely private. The large living room features a brick wall with a long linear fireplace and gray toned furniture with leather accents. The dining room features banquette seating with a custom table with built in leaves to extend the table for dinner parties. KITCHEN AFTER The homeowner's primary goal was to be able to host large dinner parties easily and efficiently. However, it was important that the space not feel like a commercial kitchen (even though it has three dishwashers!) in order to blend with the Mid-century Modern style of the home. We incorporated an underutilized adjacent area in order to increase the size of the kitchen by 150% to create designated space for everything, including the client's vast collection of china and serving pieces. The new floor plan feels as though it was original to the house. Cabinetry, countertops, and flooring also blend seamlessly with the rest of the home. Meet Meridith: a super-mom who’s as busy as she is badass  — and easily my favorite overachiever. She slays her office job and comes home to an equally high-octane family life. We share a love for city living with farmhouse aspirations. There’s a vegetable garden in the backyard, a black cat, and a floppy eared rabbit named Rocky. There has been a mobile chicken coop and a colony of bees in the backyard. At one point they even had a pregnant hedgehog on their hands! Between gardening, entertaining, and helping with homework, Meridith has zero time for interior design. Spending several days a week in New York for work, she has limited amount of time at home with her family. My goal was to let her make the most of it by taking her design projects off her to do list and let her get back to her family (and rabbit). I wanted her to spend her weekends at her son's baseball games, not shopping for sofas. That’s my cue! Meridith is wonderful. She is one of the kindest people I know. We had so much fun, it doesn’t seem fair to call this “work”. She is loving, and smart, and funny. She’s one of those girlfriends everyone wants to call their own best friend. I wanted her house to reflect that: to feel cozy and inviting, and encourage guests to stay a while. Meridith is not your average beige person, and she has excellent taste. Plus, she was totally hands-on with design choices. It was a true collaboration. We played up her quirky side and built usable, inspiring spaces one lightbulb moment at a time. I took her love for color (sacré blue!) and immediately started creating a plan for her space and thinking about her design wish list. I set out hunting for vibrant hues and intriguing patterns that spoke to her color palette and taste for pattern. I focused on creating the right vibe in each space: a bit of drama in the dining room, a bit more refined and quiet atmosphere for the living room, and a neutral zen tone in their master bedroom. Her stuff. My eye. Meridith’s impeccable taste comes through in her art collection. The perfect placement of her beautiful paintings served as the design model for color and mood. We had a bit of a chair graveyard on our hands, but we worked with some key pieces of her existing furniture and incorporated other traditional pieces, which struck a pleasant balance. French chairs, Asian-influenced footstools, turned legs, gilded finishes, glass hurricanes – a wonderful mash-up of traditional and contemporary. Some special touches were custom-made (the marble backsplash in the powder room, the kitchen banquette) and others were happy accidents (a wallpaper we spotted via Pinterest). They all came together in a design aesthetic that feels warm, inviting, and vibrant — just like Meridith! We built her space based on function. We asked ourselves, “how will her family use each room on any given day?” Meridith throws legendary dinner parties, so we needed curated seating arrangements that could easily switch from family meals to elegant entertaining. We sought a cozy eat-in kitchen and decongested entryways that still made a statement. Above all, we wanted Meredith’s style and panache to shine through every detail.
