A suburban Philadelphia mid-century home in Media, Pennsylvania needed an updated kitchen and dining area for a professional couple with no children. The contemporary open design reflects their lifestyle and how they wanted to use the space. The light filled modern space created is dramatic yet inviting and serves as a backdrop to showcase this couple’s growing art collection. Nestled in the trees, this suburban home feels like it’s in the country while just a short distance to the city. Photography by Jay Greene.

You can make a smaller space feel larger by creating sequential views along an axis, a technique that essentially creates the feeling of a longer distance within a short distance. In this photo, one's view from the den travels through the doors, across the family room to the dining table with flowers, to the window and to the trees beyond the window. This can create a feeling of greater spaciousness within a smaller home.

This large full size wall mural is hand-painted by artist Jill Roberts. The client wanted a southwestern theme scene where she could be in her living room and look far into the distance being immersed into the feelings of the painting. My goal was to create distance in both the drawing and the colors. We looked at many photographs together and create our own scene bringing in meaningful elements to the client.
