Inspiration for a mediterranean stucco townhouse exterior remodel in Houston

This sophisticated kitchen incorporates elements traditionally found in a Craftsman style space. The homeowner selected the AristoKraft Winstead doorstyle, which is a full overlay shaker available in Maple, in the Umber finish. Incorporating the dark, rich woods reinforces the Craftsman style and places an emphasis on the cabinet’s natural beauty. Maximizing storage while still making sure everything was easily accessible was the biggest concern. Adding several interior conveniences such as tip out trays in the sink base, garbage and recycle pullouts in the island, and roll out shelving below the cooktop helped immensely with accessibility. The customer also opted to include a tray divider cabinet for cookie sheets and spice pullouts. The designers were able to find the right color of AristoKraft cabinets by pulling woodsy brown hues from the perimeter and island countertops. When designing the island, having plenty of space for preparation was crucial. The original kitchen design started with a smaller island, approximately 54x48”. By the third revision, the island had grown to roughly 96 x 84”, including space for barstools on the back side and additional storage for wine below the overhang. The stainless steel appliances and hardware ties the space together and creates cohesiveness. Undercabinet lighting is highly functional and enhances the lush colors found in the cabinets and countertops. The exposed wood beam is an excellent design element. Not only does it compliment the rich cabinetry, it also adds a unique component found in most Craftman style kitchens. Additionally, the beam shows the location of the original exterior wall.

This elegant salt water pool and outdoor entertaining area overlooks a golf course. The clients’ goals for the project were to: (1) have more privacy, (2) fit a traditional, geometric pool design into a smaller footprint, and (3) enhance their deck to function as an outdoor living space. Elite Landscaping owner and designer, Jason Decker, had worked with the clients on a variety of layouts and designs over the years. When the timing was right, the client selected a 15’ by 30’ main pool with a 9’ by 9’ sun shelf in one corner. Elite Landscaping added some in-pool wow factors, including: a slender set of all-glass tile steps descending from the sun shelf, and a raised, privacy wall with three, 24” wide sheer waterfalls on one side. Silver travertine was used for the bullnose coping and pool deck. The all-brick, poolside fire pit offers a great area to entertain and relax. The deck was rebuilt for beauty and safety, with a dry, underdeck system that creates office and/or dining space underneath. All outdoor lighting and pool lighting were professionally installed to be easily controlled from an app on the client’s smartphone.

This was an amazing project to work on with even more amazing clients! This project, in particular, had a strict timeline as we needed to complete it by the upcoming holidays. We opened up the space plan and integrated the kitchen and the living room so that the client could more easily entertain friends and family. We used the back wall as a focal point, selecting a black hood with an interesting backsplash pattern that goes all the way to the ceiling. --- Project designed by Montecito interior designer Margarita Bravo. It contains no harmful chemicals and do not emit harmful radiation or gasses. Granite is heat resistant and is one of the most heat-resistant countertops on the market. You can place a hot pan out of the oven directly onto the countertop surface. Experts do recommend the use of a trivet when using appliances that emit heat for long periods of time, such as crockpots. Since the material is so dense, there is a small possibility heating one area of the top and not the entire thing, could cause the countertop to crack. Granite is scratch resistant. You can cut on it, but it will dull your knives! Granite scores a seven on Moh’s hardness scale. Granite countertops are considered to be a low maintenance countertop surface. The likelihood of needing to be repaired or resurfaced is low. Granite is a porous material. Most fabricators will apply a sealer to granite countertops before they are installed which will protect them from absorbing liquids too quickly. Many sealers last more than 10 years before needing to be reapplied. When they do need to be reapplied, it is something that most homeowners can do on their own as the process is similar to cleaning. Darker granites are very dense and sometimes don’t even require a sealer. When it comes to pricing, there are a lot of variables such as edge profile, total square footage, backsplash, etc. Don’t be fooled by the stereotype that all granite is expensive. Lower-range granites will cost less than high-range laminate. Though granite countertops are not considered “low range” in pricing, there are a lot of affordable options. If you are looking for something truly unique, consider an exotic granite. Some quarries are not easily accessible and/or only able to be quarried for short periods of time throughout the year. If these circumstances exist in a quarry with gorgeous stone, the price will be driven upward. You won’t find a lot of solid patterns or bright colors, but both do exist. Also, watch for a large range of color and pattern within the same color of stone. It’s always a good idea to view the exact slab(s) that will be fabricated for your kitchen to make sure they are what you expected to see from the sample. Another factor is that many exotic types of granite have huge flowing waves, and a small sample will not be an accurate representation of the whole slab. Granite countertops are very resistant to chemicals. Acids and bases will not harm the material.

Time Frame: 6 Weeks // Budget: $20,000 // Design Fee: $3,750 This young family owns a home in Ganesha Hills in Pomona. After living with “apartment” furniture for a couple of years, they decided it was time to upgrade and invest in furnishings that were more suited to their taste and lifestyle. Family friendly and comfortable, but still stylish, is what was requested. I achieved that by selecting quality/durable pieces of furniture for the foundation of the room and then decorated with accessories that have a bit of a “glam” factor, which can easily be changed out when they want a new look. I designed a custom wood bar top with steel supports for seating at the kitchen peninsula. Before there was no seating in the kitchen. This helps join the kitchen and family room and provides a spot for the kids to eat and do homework. The fireplace was updated with a new custom wood mantle and matching hearth. I had the walls painted from a yellow to a neutral greige. Custom window coverings include grey silk drapes in the family room and pleated Roman shades in the kitchen. For a bit of added sparkle, I replaced the 2 existing pendants with 2 mini chandeliers over the peninsula. The overall look is family friendly, but stylish with a bit of sparkle. When this 6,000-square-foot vacation home suffered water damage in its family room, the homeowners decided it was time to update the interiors at large. They wanted an elegant, sophisticated, and comfortable style that served their lives but also required a design that would preserve and enhance various existing details. To begin, we focused on the timeless and most interesting aspects of the existing design. Details such as Spanish tile floors in the entry and kitchen were kept, as were the dining room's spirited marine-blue combed walls, which were refinished to add even more depth. A beloved lacquered linen coffee table was also incorporated into the great room's updated design. To modernize the interior, we looked to the home's gorgeous water views, bringing in colors and textures that related to sand, sea, and sky. In the great room, for example, textured wall coverings, nubby linen, woven chairs, and a custom mosaic backsplash all refer to the natural colors and textures just outside. Likewise, a rose garden outside the master bedroom and study informed color selections there. We updated lighting and plumbing fixtures and added a mix of antique and new furnishings. In the great room, seating and tables were specified to fit multiple configurations – the sofa can be moved to a window bay to maximize summer views, for example, but can easily be moved by the fireplace during chillier months. Designer Danielle Lardani's clients love to cook, so they desired a new kitchen that appealed to them stylistically, while also supporting their passion for cooking. They wanted to include features that would make cooking together both efficient and enjoyable. Danielle fulfilled their dreams by creating a stunning, contemporary design that seamlessly matched the style of the rest of their home. She selected a horizontal, textured laminate by Wynnbrooke Cabinetry for the base perimeter cabinets, with a contrasting prep zone featuring Décor Cabinets in a Behr custom color, Adirondack Blue. To increase the efficiency of the space, the layout of the kitchen was reconfigured to create a more functional work triangle between the range, the refrigerator, and the sink. The new layout allows the homeowners to prep, cook and serve food with ease. To further enhance the modern look of the kitchen and accommodate her clients’ wishes, she chose floating shelves and a full-height backsplash to give the space a more open feel. Notable Design Details: - Danielle designed the new layout to include ample counter space for food prep. - She installed integrated lighting under the floating shelves and the upper cabinets in the prep-zone area to brighten these work spaces. - Danielle included a custom dish drawer in her cabinetry design. This optimized storage and allowed dinnerware to be easily accessible. - The knife block and utensil pull-out organizer keeps the clients’ cooking tools neat while also keeping them at arms reach.

Our clients were looking to build an income property for use as a short term rental in their backyard. In order to keep maximize the available space on a limited footprint, we designed the ADU around a spiral staircase leading up to the loft bedroom. The vaulted ceiling gives the small space a much larger appearance. To provide privacy for both the renters and the homeowners, the ADU was set apart from the house with its own private entrance. The design of the ADU was done with local Pacific Northwest aesthetics in mind, including green exterior paint and a mixture of woodgrain and metal fixtures for the interior. Durability was a major concern for the homeowners. In order to minimize potential damages from renters, we selected quartz countertops and waterproof flooring. We also used a high-quality interior paint that will stand the test of time and clean easily. The end result of this project was exactly what the client was hoping for, and the rental consistently receives 5-star reviews on Airbnb.

These homeowners came to us wanting to upgrade the curb appeal of their home and improve the layout of the interior. They hoped for an entry that would welcome guests to their home both inside and out, while also creating more defined and purposeful space within the home. The main goals of the project were to add a covered wrap around porch, add more windows for natural light, create a formal entry that housed the client’s baby grand piano, and add a home office for the clients to work from home. With a dated exterior and facade that lacked dimension, there was little charm to be had. The front door was hidden from visitors and a lack of windows made the exterior unoriginal. We approached the exterior design pulling inspiration from the farmhouse style, southern porches, and craftsman style homes. Eventually we landed on a design that added numerous windows to the front façade, reminiscent of a farmhouse, and turned a Dutch hipped roof into an extended gable roof, creating a large front porch and adding curb appeal interest. By relocating the entry door to the front of the house and adding a gable accent over this new door, it created a focal point for guests and passersby. In addition to those design elements, we incorporated some exterior shutters rated for our northwest climate that echoed the southern style homes our client loved. A greige paint color (Benjamin Moore Cape May Cobblestone) accented with a white trim (Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee) and a black front door, shutters, and window box (Sherwin Williams Black Magic) all work together to create a charming and welcoming façade. On the interior we removed a half wall and coat closet that separated the original cramped entryway from the front room. The front room was a multipurpose space that didn’t have a designated use for the family, it became a catch-all space that was easily cluttered. Through the design process we came up with a plan to split the spaces into 2 rooms, a large open semi-formal entryway and a home office. The semi-formal entryway was intentionally designed to house the homeowner’s baby grand piano – a real showstopper. The flow created by this entryway is welcoming and ushers you into a beautifully curated home. A new office now sits right off the entryway with beautiful French doors, built-in cabinetry, and an abundance of natural light – everything that one dreams of for their home office. The home office looks out to the front porch and front yard as well as the pastural side yard where the children frequently play. The office is an ideal location for a moment of inspiration, reflection, and focus. A warm white paint (Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee) combined with the newly installed light oak luxury vinyl plank flooring runs throughout the home, creating continuity and a neutral canvas. Traditional and schoolhouse style statement light fixtures coordinate with the black door hardware for an added level of contrast. There is one more improvement that made a big difference to this family. In the family room, we added a built-in window seat. This created a cozy nook that is used by all for reading and extra seating. This relatively small improvement had a big impact on how the family uses and enjoys the space.
