About this Project: The home remodeling included a kitchen renovation, second floor space reconfigurations, and first floor addition. The purpose was to expand the existing kitchen and create a casual atmosphere by eliminating the formal appearance and unify the kitchen and family room. The homeowners were looking for a traditional kitchen that could be used for dining, entertaining, doing homework while providing ample storage space and a workstation area for bill paying. Demolition was necessary of the existing kitchen and partial exterior of the back of the house and excavation for the addition. The scope of work included new painted kitchen cabinetry and dramatic Cambria stone countertops, new tigerwood exotic hardwood flooring throughout the first floor, new recessed, hanging & under cabinet lighting, and painting of the first floor. The wall paint ushers in a vibrant yet relaxing feeling to the home. Painting existing trim and moldings throughout the first floor refreshes & updates the home. The hardwood flooring flows from the front door to the back door of the first floor and adds a cozy warmth to the home. The front door is the focal point of a home's curb appeal, often featuring expansive glass panels or side-by-side double doors designed to make a grand architectural statement. During the day, these large glass features are an asset, flooding entryways and foyers with beautiful natural daylight. However, for homes situated on busy local roads or highly trafficked street-level lots, the dynamic completely changes once the sun goes down. The moment interior lights are switched on in the evening, a stark contrast is created with the dark outdoors. This creates a severe privacy issue, leaving the entire foyer completely exposed to passing traffic and pedestrians. Finding a solution that delivers absolute evening privacy without permanently plunging the front entrance into darkness during the day requires understanding how modern window treatment materials and operating systems interact. Light-Filtering vs. Blackout Fabrics The first step in solving street-level privacy is selecting the correct fabric type. We recently worked with a homeowner in Sherrills Ford whose beautiful new construction property sat on a highly trafficked road. They loved their double wide front door entrance but felt entirely too exposed to the street at night. We brought our mobile showroom directly to their driveway. This allowed us to hold up premium light-filtering fabric samples directly against their entryway glass, matching the materials perfectly to their home's natural lighting, interior paint, and trim before making a single cut. To solve their street-level privacy issue, we custom-built and installed two matching light-filtering roller shades, mounting them flawlessly side-by-side above the front door frame. To keep the home’s interior design completely cohesive, we carried the exact same style to the back of the house, installing a matching single roller shade on the rear door. Smart Home Window Automation at Your Fingertips Because entryway windows can be tall and awkward to reach manually, our family team integrated advanced smart-home motorization into this Sherrills Ford project. Beyond the convenience of a handheld remote control, these automated roller shades feature seamless Wi-Fi integration. This elegant salt water pool and outdoor entertaining area overlooks a golf course. The clients’ goals for the project were to: (1) have more privacy, (2) fit a traditional, geometric pool design into a smaller footprint, and (3) enhance their deck to function as an outdoor living space. Elite Landscaping owner and designer, Jason Decker, had worked with the clients on a variety of layouts and designs over the years. When the timing was right, the client selected a 15’ by 30’ main pool with a 9’ by 9’ sun shelf in one corner. Elite Landscaping added some in-pool wow factors, including: a slender set of all-glass tile steps descending from the sun shelf, and a raised, privacy wall with three, 24” wide sheer waterfalls on one side. Silver travertine was used for the bullnose coping and pool deck. The all-brick, poolside fire pit offers a great area to entertain and relax. The deck was rebuilt for beauty and safety, with a dry, underdeck system that creates office and/or dining space underneath. All outdoor lighting and pool lighting were professionally installed to be easily controlled from an app on the client’s smartphone.

Even Dudley likes the new kitchen arrangement. By removing a wall between the former dining room and the kitchen, the space was expanded to easily handle entertaining guests around the large island and along the beverage bar. Custom light maple cabinets were selected to match other renovations done in the home. Wood floors are ideal for pets since they are durable and easy to clean.

This incredible beach condo is a perfect example of "clean and simple" design style. The cabinets are Wellborn Select series cabinets. The door style is Hancock shaker and the finish is Glacier white. The cabinets are all the same, but each room has it's own personality with countertops and tile. The white and gray finishes are so soft and really allow the wonderful views of the Gulf of Mexico to POP-! You can easily focus on the blue-green water and light blue sky. It is easy to relax and unwind at the beach with this soft and exquisite interior!

Located in Palo Alto's flood zone, this Eichler home underwent a phased renovation thoughtfully redesigned to accommodate a growing family of five, with an emphasis on school proximity and nearby grandparents. The bedroom wing was completely reconfigured, including a new front addition as a guest suite for grandparents, expanding the house to five bedrooms and three baths. Taller 9-foot ceilings were introduced in some areas, enhancing the overall openness—a lofty goal for an Eichler. The tranquil courtyard, a favorite spot for the family, was redesigned to allow parents to watch the kids while cooking. The backyard became a relaxing lounging area connected to the living room. Once dark living spaces were modernized by removing a low-hanging beam in the kitchen, adding skylights for natural light, and eliminating the fireplace to create a more functional entertainment space. Finally, new landscaping reflecting the client's heritage and some of the home's architectural elements, creates a harmonious indoor-outdoor flow. For these practical clients, who live at a river's edge, their extraordinary view was so expansive, there was little concern that a railing would obstruct the view and functionality and durability were key. For this project in Ambleside, we created a made-to-measure fitted bedroom. The goal was to maximise storage and dressing space without overpowering the room, as it had many windows with views to be admired. We selected Daval’s Made-to-Measure Fitted Bedroom Furniture, which allowed for flexibility in design. It features a backlite headboard panel, bedside chests with LED reading lights, and USB points with lighting controls easily accessible. A mirror-fronted wardrobe placed at a corner utilises the space beautifully for full-hanging storage while doubling as a dressing mirror. The design also features his-and-hers dressing areas so the couple can have their own dedicated spaces. Chests were strategically positioned, providing extra storage for small items while adding warmth and balance to the design. They had an ensuite bathroom with an alcove area outside, perfect for a run of robes for extra storage, with everything behind closed doors. This bedroom was thoughtfully designed by Mike Hughes and expertly installed by our skilled installation team. Children’s waiting room interior design project at Princeton University. I was beyond thrilled when contacted by a team of scientists ( psychologists and neurologists ) at Princeton University. This group of professors and graduate students from the Turk-Brown Laboratory are conducting research on the infant’s brain by using functional magnetic resonance imaging (or fMRI), to see how they learn, remember and think. My job was to turn a tiny 7’x10′ windowless study room into an inviting but not too “clinical” waiting room for the mothers or fathers and siblings of the babies being studied. We needed to ensure a comfortable place for parents to rock and feed their babies while waiting their turn to go back to the laboratory, as well as a place to change the babies if needed. We wanted to stock some shelves with good books and while the room looks complete, we’re still sourcing something interactive to mount to the wall to help entertain toddlers who want something more active than reading or building blocks. Since there are no windows, I wanted to bring the outdoors inside. Princeton University‘s colors are orange, gray and black and the history behind those colors is very interesting. It seems there are a lot of squirrels on campus and these colors were selected for the three colors of squirrels often seem scampering around the university grounds. The orange squirrels are now extinct, but the gray and black squirrels are abundant, as I found when touring the campus with my son on installation day. Therefore we wanted to reflect this history in the room and decided to paint silhouettes of squirrels in these three colors throughout the room. While the ceilings are 10′ high in this tiny room, they’re very drab and boring. Given that it’s a drop ceiling, we can’t paint it a fun color as I typically do in my nurseries and kids’ rooms. To distract from the ugly ceiling, I contacted My Custom Creation through their Etsy shop and commissioned them to create a custom butterfly mobile to suspend from the ceiling to create a swath of butterflies moving across the room. Their customer service was impeccable and the end product was exactly what we wanted! The flooring in the space was simply coated concrete so I decided to use Flor carpet tiles to give it warmth and a grass-like appeal. These tiles are super easy to install and can easily be removed without any residual on the floor. I’ll be using them more often for sure!
