Color is introduced to the space by employing images of NYC and Bangalore deities, modern blown glass from a well-known San Fran glassblower, and quirky 1950s vintage glassware. The space hums with authenticity. The coordinated color palette makes the open space a uniform, comprehensive space to enjoy. Its success is in knowing the difference between open/spacious verses empty/hollow and heartless.

The master suite was the last remnant of 1980’s (?) design within this renovated Charlottesville home. The intent of Alloy's renovation was to incorporate universal design principles into the couple's bathroom while bringing the clean modern design aesthetic from the rest of the house into their master suite. After drastically altering the footprint of the existing bathroom to accommodate an occupant with compromised mobility, the architecture of this project, void of color, became a study in texture. To define the individual spaces of bathroom and to create a clean but not cold space, we used white tiles of various sizes, format, and material. In addition, the maple flooring that we installed in the bedroom was carried into the dry zones of the bathroom, while radiant heating was installed in the floors to create both physical and perceptual warmth throughout. This project also involved a closet expansion that employs a modular closet system, and the installation of a new vanity in the master bedroom. In case you assume that the prerequisite for a contemporary kitchen is monochromatic white, this design will shatter your misconceptions. Admittedly, the upper cabinets are gloss white, but there are two additional cabinet materials that create a rich combination of color and texture. The bases and back of the island are high-gloss dark teak-patterned laminate that echo the dark tongue-and-groove wood ceiling. The tall cabinets, fridge panels, and front and sides of the island are a soft matte gray-toned rift cut patterned laminate. For a clean profile, the white cabinets use touch latches, while the gray and dark doors employ aluminum channel pulls that add a low-sheen metallic accent. Tying everything together is the gray and taupe marble countertops with matching slab backsplashes. The subtly mottled limestone-like porcelain tile flooring is the perfect backdrop for the room’s lively mix. Influenced by innovative European kitchens, these cabinets use gray metal drawer boxes, elevated to luxury status with walnut knife and cutlery inserts. A popular corner solution is the LeMans corner swing-out, which provides full accessibility to what is ordinarily a dead zone. Undercounter illumination is supplied by LED lights set into grooves routed out in the bottom of the wall cabinets.

This unique five-hole putting green employs unused space behind the pool's water feature. With artificial turf in two different lengths to mimic the rough and the fairway, and accented with landscape lighting so tee time can be any time, this is every linksman's dream.

Cantoni Atlanta designer Kohl Sudnikovich transformed his client’s outdated living room into a bright and inviting space inspired by the home’s sweeping bay views in St. Petersburg, Florida. After removing the entry, kitchen and dining room walls to create an open floor plan and enrich the living spaces with outdoor light, the living room, which was formerly paneled with mirrored walls and wooden ceilings, was transformed into a modern oasis that is the couple’s new favorite space in their home. Using a custom double faced sofa, Kohl created two intimate seating areas in the living room, one facing the fire and the other looking to the water, so the couple could enjoy their new retreat from two unique vantage points. Artfully outfitting the space, Kohl employed a neutral color palette with sea foam green, sky blue and deep aubergine accents. Completed in 2011 this 4 BR, 3 1/2 bath custom home is situated on a very tight urban infill lot in Northern, Virginia. Our clients were relocating to the D.C. area from New England and wanted to retain some of the New England vernacular they were familiar with in their new home. Due to heavy zoning restrictions, stylistic CCR's and a large program of almost 7000 sf, our design response is a modern take on a traditional hipped 4-square. We intentionally kept the skin and form of the building simple in order to contain cost and allow for a higher level of interior finish. The main level employs our favorite Great Room scheme that merges cooking, eating and entertaining into one seamless space that flows onto an expansive deck overlooking the rear yard. The entry elevation welcomes guests with a traditional front porch and stone path that passes by a small rain garden. The basement accommodates a guest room, media room, exercise area, and full shop while the upper level orients 2 kid's bedrooms, a Jack-n-Jill bath and the master suite toward a territorial view of the rear yard. All of this program is housed beneath a hipped roof that minimizes the scale of the house while presenting a thoughtful appearance toward the street and neighbors.

Louisa, San Clemente Coastal Modern Architecture The brief for this modern coastal home was to create a place where the clients and their children and their families could gather to enjoy all the beauty of living in Southern California. Maximizing the lot was key to unlocking the potential of this property so the decision was made to excavate the entire property to allow natural light and ventilation to circulate through the lower level of the home. A courtyard with a green wall and olive tree act as the lung for the building as the coastal breeze brings fresh air in and circulates out the old through the courtyard. The concept for the home was to be living on a deck, so the large expanse of glass doors fold away to allow a seamless connection between the indoor and outdoors and feeling of being out on the deck is felt on the interior. A huge cantilevered beam in the roof allows for corner to completely disappear as the home looks to a beautiful ocean view and Dana Point harbor in the distance. All of the spaces throughout the home have a connection to the outdoors and this creates a light, bright and healthy environment. Passive design principles were employed to ensure the building is as energy efficient as possible. Solar panels keep the building off the grid and and deep overhangs help in reducing the solar heat gains of the building. This is the chandelier in full of the previous closeup photo. We produced this vibrantly colored outdoor chandelier for a client's roofed patio area. Do not be deceived by the thin wires; we use taut, aircraft-strength cables that keep the chandelier stable, secure and safe.

Maximum Interior Doors in Wenge color have a noble classical look, yet would be a perfect addition to different kinds of Interior. Thin layers of a natural wood veneer are carefully placed on a core. We entered into our Primrose project knowing that we would be working closely with the homeowners to rethink their family’s home in a way unique to them. They definitely knew that they wanted to open up the space as much as possible. This renovation design begun in the entrance by eliminating most of the hallway wall, and replacing the stair baluster with glass to further open up the space. Not much was changed in ways of layout. The kitchen now opens up to the outdoor cooking area with bifold doors which makes for great flow when entertaining. The outdoor area has a beautiful smoker, along with the bbq and fridge. This will make for some fun summer evenings for this family while they enjoy their new pool. For the actual kitchen, our clients chose to go with Dekton for the countertops. What is Dekton? Dekton employs a high tech process which represents an accelerated version of the metamorphic change that natural stone undergoes when subjected to high temperatures and pressure over thousands of years. It is a crazy cool material to use. It is resistant to heat, fire, abrasions, scratches, stains and freezing. Because of these features, it really is the ideal material for kitchens. Above the garage, the homeowners wanted to add a more relaxed family room. This room was a basic addition, above the garage, so it didn’t change the square footage of the home, but definitely added a good amount of space. For the exterior of the home, they refreshed the paint and trimmings with new paint, and completely new landscaping for both the front and back. We added a pool to the spacious backyard, that is flanked with one side natural grass and the other, turf. As you can see, this backyard has many areas for enjoying and entertaining.
