The task of interior solutions - successfully resolve life is to master the lifestyle, make elegant and robust framework for everyday life scenarios for young families. Not to activate the space, but to make it possible to fill a new home. Each design solution creates a story from life that recreates happiness and family comfort.

The Chelsea Loft combined two adjacent lofts into a four bedroom home. The home was designed to flexibly adapt with the owners as they grew their young family. The design also preserved the open industrial spaces of the original loft building. These open spaces were created for multiple activities throughout the day: entertaining, cooking, lounging, playing, exercising, and working. Sliding wall panels and “deep” walls housed numerous storage systems, allowing for areas to be adapted differently throughout the day. The adaptability of the spaces was the essential aspect to the design-- transforming the owners’ everyday needs into a flexible and well-loved home. The interior partitions were also minimized, which maximizied the natural light flowing from three sides of the loft. One of these sides included an outdoor terrace, which was also renovated to provide a more open connection between the interior and exterior.

After living in their home for ten years, these homeowners are empty nesters. They went back and forth between remodeling their 2nd floor and creating a backyard oasis. Ultimately, they felt a garage/backyard makeover would best suit their lifestyle. They had no privacy, no shade, and a space longing for attention. Castle Building & Remodeling teamed up with Field Outdoor Spaces to reimagine this space for everyday use, as well as entertaining. The garage, which was previously attached to the house, was completely torn down. The new garage was built from the ground up, closer to the alley. This freed up space for what is now a lovely outdoor kitchen pavilion. Held up by wrapped cedar posts and beams, the ceiling is creatively finished with walnut floor planks. At the ground, stamped concrete was poured to create a stone look. The covered patio extends into a walkway towards the new garage, so the homeowners never have to worry about getting wet when coming and going. This walkway also features motion-activated lights, designed to illuminate the homeowner’s path as he/she enters from the garage. The outdoor cooking/bar area with concrete countertops and stainless steel storage units is the heart of this space. Complete with two ceiling fans, this new space offers privacy, shade, and comfort for parties and everyday use! Tour this project in person, September 28 – 29, during the 2019 Castle Home Tour!

Custom tennis court at Studio Thomas Project No. 022, designed as an extension of the home’s outdoor living environment. Set within a landscaped setting of mature trees and layered plantings, the court offers a private place for recreation while remaining integrated with the surrounding property. The classic blue playing surface is framed by green borders and enclosed with fencing, creating a dedicated space for both casual games and active family use. Positioned near the home’s outdoor areas, the court supports an active lifestyle while maintaining the sense of calm and connection to nature that defines the property. Like the interiors, the outdoor amenities were planned with intention—spaces designed to support gathering, movement, and everyday enjoyment of the landscape.

Sited on a quiet street in Palo Alto, this new home is a warmer take on the popular modern farmhouse style. Rather than high contrast and white clapboard, earthy stucco and warm stained cedar set the scene of a forever home for an active and growing young family. The heart of the home is the large kitchen and living spaces opening the entire rear of the house to a lush, private backyard. Downstairs is a full basement, designed to be kid-centric with endless spaces for entertaining. This serene family room was designed with traditional elegance and sensibility in mind. The client loves the color green and wanted to create an inviting space that could withstand everyday activities. We achieved this look starting with new plush carpeting. Framing the windows are contrasting drapery panels in soft green ikat linen and cream linen, hung with antique pewter medallions. On either side of the fireplace are "His" and "Hers" recliners that tie into the pewter, neutral, and green color scheme. The custom sectional sofa is made with high performance fabric to combat the occasional spills; accent pillows were made with fabrics used on the ottoman and recliner. The result is an effortless and relaxing atmosphere with ample seating for the family and their guests.

The open-plan renovation creates a continuous living space connecting the kitchen, family room, and rear garden while preserving distinct areas for everyday activities.

Every homeowner dreams of their master suite becoming a relaxing getaway from the activities of everyday living. This master suite is just that! Calming blues and grays create the background for a soothing and restful retreat. The sitting area with upholstered wood-framed side chairs offers an alternate spot to curl up with a good book. A custom shaped bound carpet beneath the sitting area adds warmth, texture and subtle pattern to the room. The wrought iron bed heralds stately tradition without being overdone. Artwork is a key factor in the space. Unique black botanicals add drama above the distressed wood chests. A pair of canvases evoking water and grasses draws the eye all the way into the master suite. This finished basement in Beverly, Massachusetts was designed to create a flexible lower-level living space for relaxing, entertaining, and staying active. The open layout includes a lounge area with a fireplace and media wall, a custom bar and seating area for gatherings, and a dedicated fitness space with exercise equipment. Warm wood-look flooring, recessed lighting, and neutral finishes brighten the basement and create a welcoming environment that functions as an extension of the home’s everyday living space.
