Two adjacent warehouse units in a circa 1915 building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, were combined into a single modern live / work space. Careful consideration was paid to honoring and preserving original elements like exposed brick walls, timber beams and columns, hardwood and concrete floors and plaster walls.

This beautiful project features Coronado Stone Products Adobe Brick thin veneer. Adobe Brick thin veneer is not a structural brick, so it can be directly adhered to a properly prepared drywall or plywood substrate. This allows projects to be enhanced with the alluring look and feel of full bed-depth Adobe Brick, without the need for additional wall tie support that standard full sized Adobe Brick installations require. Eichler in Marinwood - In conjunction to the porous programmatic kitchen block as a connective element, the walls along the main corridor add to the sense of bringing outside in. The fin wall adjacent to the entry has been detailed to have the siding slip past the glass, while the living, kitchen and dining room are all connected by a walnut veneer feature wall running the length of the house. A mixture of styles come together perfectly in this small kitchen design. The crisp white cabinets and marble backsplash are contrasted with an industrial-style exposed brick wall and a rustic wooden breakfast bar. Accents of brass and thunderstorm grey bring the whole look together, adding classic and modern elements to the unusual organic wooden counter. It was time for a new style for this teenager’s bedroom. She desperately needed more room for clothes while dreaming of a grown-up room with drapes and a velvet bed. Too busy with teen life to focus on working with a designer, her mother offered the general guidelines. Design a room that will transition into young adulthood with furnishings that will be transferable to her apartment in the future. Two must haves: the color “millennial pink” and a hardwood floor! This dark walk-out basement-bedroom was transformed into a bright, efficient, grown-up room so inviting that it earned the name “precious”! Clarity Northwest Photography: Matthew Gallant

The homeowner felt closed-in with a small entry to the kitchen which blocked off all visual and audio connections to the rest of the first floor. The small and unimportant entry to the kitchen created a bottleneck of circulation between rooms. Our goal was to create an open connection between 1st floor rooms, make the kitchen a focal point and improve general circulation. We removed the major wall between the kitchen & dining room to open up the site lines and expose the full extent of the first floor. We created a new cased opening that framed the kitchen and made the rear Palladian style windows a focal point. White cabinetry was used to keep the kitchen bright and a sharp contrast against the wood floors and exposed brick. We painted the exposed wood beams white to highlight the hand-hewn character. The open kitchen has created a social connection throughout the entire first floor. The communal effect brings this family of four closer together for all occasions. The island table has become the hearth where the family begins and ends there day. It's the perfect room for breaking bread in the most casual and communal way.

Blending exposed brick with graphic prints. Jerrica Zaric Interior Design furnished this open-concept condo that overlooks Milwaukee's Third Ward neighborhood. We paired graphic geometrical, tribal and Asian prints with modern accents and this condo's historical Cream City brick.

Homeowners in hip, downtown Chicago wanted a contemporary update for their open-concept kitchen and living room. Designer, Hannah Tindall, paired pops of bright orange and chartreuse with sleek gray cabinets and furnishings. We added a white, exposed brick wall as a unique accent piece to the living room. The custom kitchen island with waterfall edges adds extra space for cooking, while dropping down several inches on one end to become the homeowner's dining area. The final home result is a true blend of utility, sophistication, and cheer.
