Located in a wooded setting which backs up to a golf course, The Woods is a vacation condo community in Canadian Lakes, Michigan. The owners asked us to create a comfortable modern design that would appeal to golfers and also families visiting relatives in the area. This complete renovation brought the design from 80's basic to rustic transitional. Colors and design elements echo the natural area surrounding the property. SKP Design was involved in multiple aspects of this project. Our services included: space planning for kitchen and both bathrooms selecting finishes for walls, floors, trim, cabinets and countertops reviewing construction details and electrical plans specification of plumbing fixtures, appliances and accent lighting furniture layout, specification and purchasing fireplace design and stone selection reviewing branding and signage ideas In the great room, wrought iron accents are featured in a new staircase handrail system. Other metal accents are found in the new chandelier, barstools and the legs of the live edge coffee table. An open area under the staircase was enclosed with recessed shelving which gives a focal point to the dinette area. Recessed built-in cabinets near the fireplace store TV technology and accessories. The original tiled hearth was replaced by poured concrete with stone accents. A queen sleeper sofa from Edgecomb provides additional sleeping. Fabrics and upholstery throughout the condo were selected for durability and cleanability. Basic white laminate kitchen cabinets were replaced with beautiful dark stained wood. Floor tile is a wood-look porcelain from Daltile called Saddle Brook. Countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms are solid surface Corian Quartz (formerly called DuPont Zodiaq). Broadloom carpet is from Durkan. The first floor bedroom is Mona Vista pattern from Modesto Collection; all other carpet is Inviting Spaces pattern from Timeless Compositions. Walls are painted with Sherwin Williams 7647 Crushed Ice. The main floor bedroom has a custom headboard mounted on a feature wall with plaid wallcovering. A freestanding vanity with undermount sink was added to the alcove area, creating space for a larger walk-in tiled shower with custom bench. On both levels, backlit mirrors highlight the sink areas. The upstairs bath has a blue tile feature wall and vessel sink. A fiberglass bathtub surround was removed and replaced by a custom tiled shower. Vinyl wallcovering from D.L. Couch provides a focal point behind the king headboard in the loft bedroom. A twin sleeper chair adds an extra bed.

This project was part of a major renovation with the closet being one of the largest square footage spaces in the design. The closet was designed from floor to ceiling with cabinets spanning the top and wrapping around the corners to connect the three sections of this closet. The narrow island is used to house ‘His’ shoes while ‘Her’ shoes are showcased on a wall of open shelving. Seventy-one drawers were needed to accomplish enough storage for personal items. The closet was constructed of White Melamine and traditional raised panel faces along with Extra-large crown molding and fascia buildup span and wrap around the entire closet. This closet is also graced with an ironing center cabinet, safe, tilt out hamper and pull out narrow tall cabinets to house necklaces and scarves, pull out mirror, belt racks, tie & belt butlers and valet rods. When a best friend calls to renovate her kitchen, we get extra excited! While many of our projects involve removing walls to create open floor plans, sometimes the biggest impact can come from revising the layout, improving functionality and upgrading finishes. Such was the case at our Devon Lane remodel. Reworking the awkwardly shaped island, eliminating a clunky soffit, relocating the refrigerator to a more accessible location and creating an elegant finish palette were our main goals when we set out to design this space. The work triangle began to evolve, and the outcome provided a large island with seating and a prep sink, ideal for hosting social gatherings. The wine bar, flanked by tall pantries, complements the rest of the kitchen, looking beautiful while providing lots of function. The new professional range and other high-end appliances make preparing meals a pleasure. The fabulous custom hood is a delightful focal point. The glazed ivory cabinets, black antiqued granite, iron light fixtures and hardware, nickel sinks and faucets bring the whole space together with an elevated, traditional feel. My task was to skillfully blend all the color my clients wanted from their mix of Latin, Hispanic and Italian heritage and get it to read successfully. Wow, no easy feat. The classic Spanish architecture of the house needed a memorable courtyard to welcome visitors and an extra dose of curb appeal. We designed an exquisite wrought iron front gate as the first point of entry with a Moorish star fountain just beyond that beckons you to enter. A creamy white sandstone creates an ethereal floor with a subtle but striking border detail around the fountain. Original Malibu-style tile was designed specifically for the fountain and custom colors complete this elegant and lovely water feature. The soft sound of brimming water is a soothing balm in a busy city day. A willowy Mediterranean Olive tree brings shade and serenity to the space as it sways gently among drought tolerant native Californian and climate-appropriate plants in a palette of soft mauves and blues with pops of orange.
