This contemporary custom home forms itself based on specific view vectors to Long's Peak and the mountains of the front range combined with the influence of a morning and evening court to facilitate exterior living. Roof forms undulate to allow clerestory light into the space, while providing intimate scale for the exterior areas. A long stone wall provides a reference datum that links public and private and inside and outside into a cohesive whole.

This project transformed a 1930's kitchen and back entry into a contemporary flow through kitchen and breakfast nook. The spaces connect the back yard with the dining room and bedroom hallway greatly facilitating circulation in this small bungalow. The new kitchen triples counter space and quadruples the storage. A new bay window floods the kitchen with light. It's wedge of glazing provides a view down the driveway to the street to increase the occupants' sense of security. New cut outs in the walls allow a view from the back yard deck through the nook and kitchen into the dining room.

The “Blue Ash” Ultracraft cabinets gave the right pop of color complementing the quartz veining. Lastly, the Adorne Legrand under-cabinet lighting system was integral in keeping the backsplash outlet free and clean. Protecting items. Interior lighting in cabinets not only facilitates access to items but also effectively protects them. In insufficient light, items may turn yellow, rust, or become damp. The interior of the screened porch is the perfect spot for entertaining or private relaxation for these Hoover, AL, homeowners. With spruce pine v-joint ceiling, we were able to cleanly install electrical wiring for ceiling fans, recessed lighting, the TV, and outlets. The high gable roof will ensure lots of light and air enters the porch, all the while being protected from the hottest sun under roof, unlike an open-air deck or uncovered patio. Ceiling fans will further facilitate air circulation throughout the space!

This Paradise Valley stunner was a down-to-the-studs renovation. The owner, a successful business woman and owner of Bungalow Scottsdale -- a fabulous furnishings store, had a very clear vision. DW's mission was to re-imagine the 1970's solid block home into a modern and open place for a family of three. The house initially was very compartmentalized including lots of small rooms and too many doors to count. With a mantra of simplify, simplify, simplify, Architect CP Drewett began to look for the hidden order to craft a space that lived well. This residence is a Moroccan world of white topped with classic Morrish patterning and finished with the owner's fabulous taste. The kitchen was established as the home's center to facilitate the owner's heart and swagger for entertaining. The public spaces were reimagined with a focus on hospitality. Practicing great restraint with the architecture set the stage for the owner to showcase objects in space. Her fantastic collection includes a glass-top faux elephant tusk table from the set of the infamous 80's television series, Dallas. It was a joy to create, collaborate, and now celebrate this amazing home. Project Details: Architecture: C.P. For this project, the entire kitchen was designed around the “must-have” Lacanche range in the stunning French Blue with brass trim. That was the client’s dream and everything had to be built to complement it. Bilotta senior designer, Randy O’Kane, CKD worked with Paul Benowitz and Dipti Shah of Benowitz Shah Architects to contemporize the kitchen while staying true to the original house which was designed in 1928 by regionally noted architect Franklin P. Hammond. The clients purchased the home over two years ago from the original owner. While the house has a magnificent architectural presence from the street, the basic systems, appointments, and most importantly, the layout and flow were inappropriately suited to contemporary living. The new plan removed an outdated screened porch at the rear which was replaced with the new family room and moved the kitchen from a dark corner in the front of the house to the center. The visual connection from the kitchen through the family room is dramatic and gives direct access to the rear yard and patio. It was important that the island separating the kitchen from the family room have ample space to the left and right to facilitate traffic patterns, and interaction among family members. Hence vertical kitchen elements were placed primarily on existing interior walls. The cabinetry used was Bilotta’s private label, the Bilotta Collection – they selected beautiful, dramatic, yet subdued finishes for the meticulously handcrafted cabinetry. The double islands allow for the busy family to have a space for everything – the island closer to the range has seating and makes a perfect space for doing homework or crafts, or having breakfast or snacks. The second island has ample space for storage and books and acts as a staging area from the kitchen to the dinner table. The kitchen perimeter and both islands are painted in Benjamin Moore’s Paper White. The wall cabinets flanking the sink have wire mesh fronts in a statuary bronze – the insides of these cabinets are painted blue to match the range. The breakfast room cabinetry is Benjamin Moore’s Lampblack with the interiors of the glass cabinets painted in Paper White to match the kitchen. All countertops are Vermont White Quartzite from Eastern Stone. The backsplash is Artistic Tile’s Kyoto White and Kyoto Steel. The fireclay apron-front main sink is from Rohl while the smaller prep sink is from Linkasink. All faucets are from Waterstone in their antique pewter finish. The brass hardware is from Armac Martin and the pendants above the center island are from Circa Lighting. The appliances, aside from the range, are a mix of Sub-Zero, Thermador and Bosch with panels on everything.

This Berkshire home is a vacation retreat for three generations of two siblings who live in different parts of the country. To facilitate group gatherings, Morpurgo Architects devised a multi-level, open plan that accommodates the 14 family members by age in pairs of small bedrooms layered on each of three floors. The steeply sloping site allows the house to nestle into the hill and make full use of the above-grade lower level. Upon entering the house, white walls highlight the architectural forms and spaces. Within the house, the walls reveal five planes of complementary colors, setting a tone of whimsy that is repeated in the lighting fixtures and other elements.

The layout is practical and centers around the hob shifting to the island. This facilitates the cook’s visual engagement with guests yet is defined by a measured separation through changing levels.

Kettle River detailed and supplied all the exterior timberwork (brackets, posts, railings and corbels) for this 11,000 sq. ft. Tudor mansion. 3D modeling and CNC machining facilitated pre-fabrication of all the intricate components. Expectations for wood quality and workmanship on this $26 million home was very demanding. The pool coping is Ledgestone 12" wide. The pool has an in-floor cleaning system to keep the pool sanitary. Both the pool and hot tub are covered by the same automatic pool safety cover with a custom stone lid system. There are two tile swim lanes to facilitate lap swimming.
