This interior remodel included a refresh of the living room space. The floors were darker with an orange hue. They were refinished to be closer to the natural blond finish brightening up the space. The fireplace received a complete makeover. Originally it had a raised hearth with terra cotta tile with a painted white wood surround and mantle. We removed everything, recessed a Botticino stone hearth, installed a stone surround to the ceiling and added a reclaimed wood mantle. The stone and hearth are light keeping with the light and airy feel the homeowner was looking to achieve.

Originally a single family home, this four unit apartment building was broken up in a way that each apartment has a different layout. The challenge for Piperbear Designs was how to reimagine each space to conform with the needs of the modern tenant – while also adding design flourishes that will make each unit feel special. Located on historic West Grace in Richmond, Virginia, the property is surrounded by a mix of attractive single family homes and small historic apartment buildings. Walking distance to the Science Museum of Virginia, Monument Ave, many hip restaurants, this block is a sought after location for young professionals moving to Richmond. Piperbear wanted to restore this building in a manner that respects the history of the area while also adding a design aesthetic that is in touch with the change happening in Richmond.

The Cobblestone Bar - This corner was an eyesore in Cincinnati's OTR neighborhood for several decades. Our team gave this old bar a new life with a modern rustic aesthetic preserving the original brick and incorporating leather, wood and brass details throughout to create an elegant bar with a neighborhood feel where connections are made. We completely restored an existing, broken backbar into a historic gem, installed a new concrete front bar with brass inlay with a custom tap system connected into a renovated basement cellar below. Customers can enjoy a variety of seating and intimate, thoughtful details. The name 'Cobblestone' came from Cincinnati’s history - old horse-drawn carriages, historic streetcar, pathways through the city - and the ceiling design enhances the concept of pathways and connections using simple electric conduit and junction boxes. This pool project has some cool elements all combined together to create an outdoor playground. The main focal point from the house is the raised wall that contains a fire bar with stainless steel spill edges and flower pots. The spa seats 8 people comfortably, is raised 18" and has rolled glass tile with spill edges that match the pool spill edges. There is a nice cozy seating area around the sunken fireplace made for cushions and comfort. Right next to it is space for a table and chairs. Artificial grass was used to give a really lush feel to the project along with low maintence. The PebbleSheen color is Aqua Blue. We used Austin stone and Leuder's limestone (bullnozed on the chair backings and spa). The bar area has a overhang for the barstools. The large tanning ledge centers on the main door. On the far side away from the fireplace is a really cool bed swing area inspired by the owners' trip to the Carribean. It's a queen size mattress hanging from the cedar arbor that has an acrylic panel to keep the rain out. Curtains are for privacy & to help keep the sun out when wanted. Quite often rear yards are often broken up into separate spaces that do not complement each other. This small urban yard was no exception and to address this bsq redesigned a smaller deck that was opened up to the rear yard. An integrated concrete seat bench added a fun element while removing the need for railings that would otherwise cut off the deck from the yard. Entertainment space was key for this family so the garden areas had to be reduced. Stainless steel cables were added as an architectural feel and to add support for vertical greening and flowering vines. An existing Corten steel planter that was a treasured art piece was turned into a gas fireplace with a removable wood top to provide double duty as a coffee table that did not take up too much space.

The garden is roughly broken up into four areas: a flower and plant rich section near the house with a small seating area, a grass field for the kids to play spanning the entire width of the garden, a pond with a marshy banks and stepping stones, and the veranda (complete with bike shed). All the lines in the garden emphasize the width. Existing or otherwise affordable materials are used. As much as possible the garden is given a fresh, bright and colorful feeling.
