The sitting area features a channel-tufted slate leather armchair paired with a minimalist pedestal side table, positioned beside a grand bay window with an arched transom and custom woven valance. Personal touches throughout — a vintage car model, A Man & His Car coffee table book, watch displays, and framed automotive photography — give this retreat a deeply personal character without sacrificing sophistication. A cognac leather oval bench at the foot of the bed introduces warmth and a subtle vintage nod that ties the entire palette together beautifully. The second bedroom refreshes a guest suite with a softer, transitional sensibility: warm greige walls, a linen platform bed, crisp white bedding with charcoal velvet accent pillows, and a triptych of terracotta-framed abstract art above the headboard.

We did a full gut on this Master Ensuite. Our clients wanted a brighter softer look with modern touches but still keeping that class feel.

The dramatic weight and masculinity of the custom walnut and steel cornices is balanced by the softer more feminine curvature of the distinctively shaped countertops. These unique cornices frame the views and conceal automated shades, giving the option for full privacy or welcoming the bright outdoors into the space. Opposite flanking the courtyard entry door, and complementing the masculine feel of the cornices are metal coil drapes which give a modernized look adding texture, contrast, and unexpected softness to the metal sheers. The clients have two sons who share a bathroom. This space has an industrial feel, crafted with gooseneck lights, a concrete-like countertop, and their initials on either side of the vanity. The theme of blue is carried into the shower design with funky glass tiles in the soap niche and a softer, organic, blue-stained wood veneer wallcovering behind the vanity mirrors.

Award winning contemporary bathroom for the 2018 Design Awards by Westchester Home Magazine, this master bath project was a collaboration between Scott Hirshson, AIA of Hirshson ARCHITECTURE + DESIGN and Rita Garces, Senior Designer of Bilotta Kitchens of NY. The client had two primary objectives. First and foremost, they wanted a calm, serene environment, balancing clean lines with quiet stone and soft colored cabinets. The design team opted for a washed oak, wood-like laminate in a flat panel with a horizontal grain, a softer palette than plain white yet still just as bright. Secondly, since they have always used the bathtub every day, the most important selection was the soaking tub and positioning it to maximize space and view to the surrounding trees. With the windows surrounding the tub, the peacefulness of the outside really envelops you in to further the spa-like environment. For the sinks and faucetry the team opted for the Sigma Collection from Klaffs. They decided on a brushed finish to not overpower the soft, matte finish of the cabinetry. For the hardware from Du Verre, they selected a dark finish to complement the black iron window frames (which is repeated throughout the house) and then continued that color in the decorative lighting fixtures. The bedrooms throughout this Washington DC whole-home interior design project are as fearless as they are refined. The dramatic primary suite commands attention with floor-to-ceiling jewel-toned plum walls, a stunning botanical ceiling wallpaper, a brass cage headboard, gold wall sconces, a blue velvet sitting area, and a curated triptych of abstract artwork, a Washington DC primary bedroom design that the client calls her favorite room in the entire home. A second bedroom takes a softer but equally intentional approach, a charcoal grasscloth accent wall, champagne linen headboard with nailhead trim, layered grey and blue bedding, and warm brass accents create a sophisticated guest bedroom that feels both polished and deeply welcoming.

[Michael Moran - Photographer] Media Room: In the downstairs media room Stephanie started with the fireplace as a focal point, creating a global feel within a club-like atmosphere. Dark, rich browns and blues combine with fabrics from velvet to leather to create an inviting space unlike the typical media room or man cave. Stephanie featured pieces from Century Furniture, Lazar and Natuzzi, selecting recliners and swivel chairs to encourage engagement among guests. Outside the media room, Stephanie created a seating area with selections from Vanguard and Century Furniture. Complementary colors connect the two spaces and offer an overflow room for entertaining. This home was designed from start to finish by Stephanie James with Allen and James Interiors at Furnitureland South. While Stephanie’s long-time clients were in the process of determining finishes and textures, from cabinetry to flooring to counter tops, they visited Furnitureland South. He had contemporary tastes that gravitated toward leather and angles; she was drawn toward softer fabrics and curves that occasionally bordered on traditional. They both agreed that Stephanie should help them select furnishings, fabrics and textures that would result in a contemporary home with warm elements that were beautiful, comfortable and welcoming, while reflecting both their aesthetics.
