The homeowners sought to create a modest, modern, lakeside cottage, nestled into a narrow lot in Tonka Bay. The site inspired a modified shotgun-style floor plan, with rooms laid out in succession from front to back. Simple and authentic materials provide a soft and inviting palette for this modern home. Wood finishes in both warm and soft grey tones complement a combination of clean white walls, blue glass tiles, steel frames, and concrete surfaces. Sustainable strategies were incorporated to provide healthy living and a net-positive-energy-use home. Onsite geothermal, solar panels, battery storage, insulation systems, and triple-pane windows combine to provide independence from frequent power outages and supply excess power to the electrical grid.

Huge re-model including taking ceiling from a flat ceiling to a complete transformation. Bamboo custom cabinetry was given a grey stain, mixed with walnut strip on the bar and the island given a different stain. Huge amounts of storage from deep pan corner drawers, roll out trash, coffee station, built in refrigerator, wine and alcohol storage, appliance garage, pantry and appliance storage, the amounts go on and on. Floating shelves with a back that just grabs the eye takes this kitchen to another level. The clients are thrilled with this huge difference from their original space.

Base cabinets – other than the sink base – were designed with all drawers in sizes to accommodate various tools and supplies. We eliminated intrusive drawer pulls by specifying Accent C channels.
It was imperative to keep such a small work area free of clutter. The solution was to employ Counter Wall cabinets with Tambour doors. The right is for “him” and the left for “her.” These cabinets are only 7” deep, but perfectly hide frequently used items, thereby keeping the countertop uncluttered at all times.

Shown in the open position, the outer sections of the architectural photograph slide apart to reveal shelving concealed within the custom storage wall. When closed, the three sections form one continuous panoramic image; when open, the artwork frames frequently used books, files and office supplies. This flexible design allows the wall to shift between a clean visual focal point and accessible working storage.

The room gets divided into three zones: a lounge area for clients, a working area for my Client and a studio space/beveridge bar as a secondary work station.
Frequently used office supplies are artfully displayed where they are most accessible. The highly lacquerd storage cabinet gives the room a modern touch. It keeps the working aspects of the room, (printer, shredder, paper, garbage, files, etc.) behind closed doors to maintain the relaxed feeling we are trying to establish.
