Kiel's woodworking talents are in full effect in the kitchen. Rather than incorporate pre-fabricated cabinets into the newly rebuilt space, he decided to build them himself, affording the home the custom work that it so deserves. "It didn't make sense to put in the same fiberboard cabinetry that was there before", he confesses. Part of the plan called for open shelving up top to show off Chelsea's colorful plate collection. "One of the perks of being married to a wood worker", Chelsea jokes, "is having an entire kitchen worth of cabinets for the cost of wood and paint!" The couple outfitted the antique sink with a modern spray fixture from IKEA. The enameled cast iron sink was not only a steal at $25, but it is certainly made to last. "Often we buy older pieces which have been around for 50+ years because we know that if they have survived this long they will likely survive another 50", she says. Eric Rorer This kitchen is open to the great room, so I wanted it to be tailored and minimized. Full height cabinets are all on one wall. A bank of windows brings in natural light.

This was a complete gut and remodel. There was a divider wall removed, increase in the island size and changed the direction it was running in the space. This was an older some so we had challenges with uneven and inconsistent wall heights. Wanting to use full height cabinets made this a challenge, but having the crown painted the same color as the cabinets and a taller band board, help hide this issue. A gray glazed island with a single chandelier adds some contrast from the perimeter cabinets. The cabinet hardware is a darker pewter finish. I used a multi color hand molded brick tile from Seneca Tile, for the back splash. No picture frame over the 48" Thermador range. Only the texture of the tile.

The Bathroom layout is open and linear. A long vanity with medicine cabinet storage above is opposite full height Walnut storage cabinets. A new wet room with plaster and marble tile walls has a shower and a custom marble soaking tub.
