This 3300 sq. ft. Park Avenue apartment was gut renovated and re-designed for a young couple with three young children, originally a classic pre-war, the goal was to create an open, loft-like, elegant, modernist kid-friendly apartment. The work included custom millwork, interior furniture, finishes, lighting and artwork. The emphasis was on a sophisticated color palette with modern lighting, luxurious fabrics and elegant furniture while maintaining a feeling of “home”. To accommodate the needs for a common area for the family to gather the kitchen, breakfast room, and playroom are open to each other for a spacious casual-living area for the entire family. The Dining Room offers an intimate setting for entertaining formal dinner parties with soft lighting and sensuous materials and textiles while the custom French-polished macassar ebony millwork adds a touch of drama to the space. The Living Room/Den is connected by a partial dividing wall and can be separated by scaled full-height sliding glass doors.

This beautifully crafted Scandinavian kitchen remodel blends the warmth of white oak shaker cabinets with the sleek elegance of a quartzite island, creating a space that feels fresh yet timeless. Brass hardware, a farmhouse sink, and a custom range hood add character, while panel-ready appliances and a full-height backsplash keep the look seamless. Contemporary kitchen remodel in Lynnfield MA (aka #ProjectSuntaug), with wall cabinetry and tall cabinetry in a white high gloss lacquered finish, and base cabinetry finish of a high textured thermostructured surface. Quartz countertops with a beautiful vein pattern, a waterfall down from the island to the floor, a full height backsplash up to the wall cabinetry above, and to the ceiling encompassing the window. Wolfe range top and double wall oven, panel refrigerator, pot filler, and brushed gold hardware and plumbing fixtures.

DOWNLOAD NOW   One of my favorite things to work on is older homes with a bit of history because I find it an interesting challenge to marry the historical architectural features of a home with modern design elements that work well for my client’s current lifestyle. This home was particularly fun because it was the second kitchen we had done for this family and was quite a departure from the style of the first kitchen. The before shot of the kitchen shows a view from the family room. See the dropped ceiling? We were curious, was this just part of the design or was the dropped ceiling there to hide mechanicals? Well we soon found out that it was mostly decorative (yay!), and with the exception of a little bit of work to some plumbing from an upstairs bathroom and rerouting of the ventilation system within the original floor joists, we were in the clear, phew! The shot of the completed kitchen from roughly the same vantage point shows how much taller the ceilings are. It makes a huge difference in the feel of the space. Dark and gloomy turned fresh and light! Another serious consideration was what do we do with the skinny transom window above the refrigerator. After much back and forth, we decided to eliminate it and do some open shelving instead. This ended up being one of the nicest areas in the room. I am calling it the “fun zone” because it houses all the barware, wine cubbies and a bar fridge — the perfect little buffet spot for entertaining. It is flanked on either side by pull out pantries that I’m sure will get a ton of use. Since the neighboring room has literally three walls of almost full height windows, the kitchen gets plenty of light. The gold shelving brackets, large pendant fixtures over the island and the tile mural behind the range all pay subtle homage to the home’s prairie style architecture and bring a bit of sparkle to the room. Even though the room is quite large, the work triangle is very tight with the large Subzero fridge, sink and range all nearby for easy maneuvering during meal prep. There is seating for four at the island, and work aisles are generous. This contemporary kitchen features the “Como” door style by Artcraft Kitchens. The doors and drawers are finished in “Figured Pearl Gloss” laminate with an aluminum profiled edge. The counter tops are “Mocha” by Caesarstone with a glass tile back splash. The refrigerator is a 42” built-in by KitchenAid as are the ovens, dishwasher and induction cook top. The hood is by Faber. Aluminum framed glass door cabinets are the focal point as you enter the kitchen and the full height, aluminum door appliance garage hides all the appliances the client wanted hidden (notice the exposed KitchenAid, stainless steel mixer on the counter). The frosted glass, floating snack table provides convenient eating space for two and the stainless steel shelf over the t.v. provides an attractive display area.

The kitchen features cabinets from Grabill Cabinets in their frameless “Mode” door style in a “Blanco” matte finish. The kitchen island back, coffee bar and floating shelves are also from Grabill Cabinets on Walnut in their “Allspice” finish. The stunning countertops and full slab backsplash are Brittanica quartz from Cambria. The Miele built-in coffee system, steam oven, wall oven, warming drawer, gas range, paneled built-in refrigerator and paneled dishwasher perfectly complement the clean lines of the cabinetry. The Marvel paneled ice machine and paneled wine storage system keep this space ready for entertaining at a moment’s notice. Builder: J. Peterson Homes. This renovation project updates an existing New York 1920s apartment with a modern sensibility. Replacing the cellular pre-war layout of the central spaces with a built-in walnut credenza and white lacquer side board effectively opens the plan to create a unified and spacious living area. The back side of the full-height dining room side-board screens views from the entrance foyer. The modern design of the new built-ins at center of the space is balanced by perimeter radiator covers and a full-height bookshelf which work with the period trim detail. The new home office features stained oak wood floors, custom stained oak desk and cabinets. After nearly 30 years residing in the same home they raised their children, this wonderful couple made the decision to tear down the walls and create one great open kitchen family room and dining space, partially expanding 10 feet out into their backyard.
