Classic Calacatta marble countertops and full height backsplash (honed), douglas fir plank ceiling, and floor to ceiling custom cabinetry by Gaos, inspire an open air, fresh and classic aesthetic. Solid brass accents the room with cabinet pulls, handles and focal light fixture. Floors are solid oak, recreated to match the original, including border inlay. The kitchen island is made from 3" thick reclaimed douglas fir. All appliances and hood are built-in, including panel-ready Thermadore refrigerator.

This kitchen was in a home dating from the early 20th century and located in the Mt. Baker neighborhood of Seattle. It is u-shaped with an island in the center topped with a zinc counter. Black and white tile was used on the floor in a tradition pattern with hexagon as the inset and a black and white border with a square mosaic around the perimeter framing the island. Cabinetry is inset traditional style with the hardware on the exterior. the base of each cabinet is framed with a footed detail. Base cabinet were painted with teal, upper cabinets are white and the full height cabinets are a dark maroon and the island it oak which is used throughout the residence. A tradition style faucet was used with the pull out attached. Cup pulls are used on the drawers and knobs have a back plate.

Huge storage cabinets and a side by side front load washer/dryer make for a practical and useful laundry space. Ample counter above the machines allows folding clothing, and full-height cabinet storage accommodates a vast array of utility room needs. White shaker cabinets are detailed with dark pulls and barrel hinges as a throw-back to old-school carpenter-built cabinetry.

The homeowner was used to functioning with a stacked washer and dryer. As part of the primary suite addition and kitchen remodel, we relocated the laundry utilities. The new side-by-side configuration was optimal to create a large folding space for the homeowner. Now, function and beauty are found in the new laundry room. A neutral black countertop was designed over the washer and dryer, providing a durable folding space. A full-height linen cabinet is utilized for broom/vacuum storage. The hand-painted decorative tile backsplash provides a beautiful focal point while also providing waterproofing for the drip-dry hanging rod. Bright brushed brass hardware pop against the blues used in the space.

The clients desired an Industrial and Contemporary look for their new kitchen. The original town home kitchen was smaller in size with a larger dining and family room area. Heavily influenced by the feel of New York lofts, the project started with strong and sturdy combination of metals, dark blues, woods, and greys. A softer, matching backsplash was added to balance and create a second focal point in the room.
