From the outside this one of a kind modern farmhouse home is set off by the contrasting materials of the Shou Sugi Ban Siding, exposed douglas fir accents and steel metal roof while the inside boasts a clean lined modern aesthetic equipped with a wood fired pizza oven. Through the design and planning phases of this home we developed a simple form that could be both beautiful and every efficient. This home is ready to be net zero with the future addition of renewable resource strategies (ie. solar panels).

This space represents a recent collaboration on a spec house with a local homebuilder. Barbara Gilbert Interiors worked with the builder from start to finish on this project to build a neutral palette for future homeowners to turn this house into their home. Trendmark Inc. AFTER - Gold STAR Award Best Deck. These homeowner’s loved there house location and especially there private backyard in the heart of Cary. While completing an addition for the homeowners, they decided that they would like to remove the smaller exiting deck and add a new larger deck with a more finished look using wrought iron railings. They also wanted to have multiple sets of stairs to access the backyard. Since the homeowner eventually want to add a screen porch, the deck was built to handle the load so that portion would be complete and ready for a roof. Until then, they have the perfect deck for large backyard gatherings and entertaining. Coming from a downtown Chicago high-rise condo, these folks were ready to expand their space. The jack-and-jill bathroom for the lower level bedrooms had been oddly laid out with a narrow line-up of sink, tub, and toilet. By moving one short wall about two feet, jackhammering out 3 old drains of 9-inch-thick concrete, and adding 6 new ones, the space was expanded so each spare bedroom now has its own en suite, private bathroom with shower, along with new HVAC ducts to serve each room. Also on the lower level, the family activity room was a little “tired.” So, we fashioned decorative beams and installed new LED can lights. Planning for a future move, we gutted and refitted the large mother-in-law bathroom with elegant tall and overhead cabinets with built-in lighting. Throughout this level, carpet was replaced with concrete-compatible hardwood flooring.

A family of four with two young girls and cats needed a brand new master bath to accommodate a family member with MS. They tasked us with creating a luxurious master bath in a modern rustic style that was ADA-accessible and could accommodate the client's walker and wheelchair in the future. Their key issues were that the shower was relatively small, with a curb the client had to step over. They also had a large jacuzzi tub with a tub deck built around it, but the couple never used it. The main bathroom only had one vanity with minimal counter space available, and the dated finishes and materials looked tired - so they were more than ready for a beautiful transformation. To create an ADA-accessible main bath, we relocated the shower to an interior corner, allowing for the addition of a larger ADA-accessible shower with zero entry and a bench the client could easily transfer onto for bathing. The arrangement of this space would also allow for a walker and wheelchair to easily move through the walkways for access to the shower. We moved the toilet to where the shower had been located originally with ADA accessibility features and installed luxurious double vanities along the entire vanity wall, with a modern linen tower cabinet for added storage. Since the client loved the modern rustic aesthetic, we incorporated their chosen style with elements like the Calacatta porcelain tile, cabinet hardware, mason jar lights, and wood-framed mirrors.

This Lakewood Ranch kitchen remodel introduced a brighter coastal direction with white cabinetry, a blue island, island seating, stainless appliances, pendant lighting, and open sightlines into the surrounding living areas. The updated kitchen helped make the investor property feel fresher, more functional, and more appealing to future buyers.

Minneapolis homeowners came to Castle ready to transform their whole house including: renovating their kitchen, living, main floor hall bath, and lower level mudroom + laundry. They also added a new 3/4 bath, completed a basement full finish, selected new exterior siding and new Marvin windows. To round things out, new exterior Thermatru doors and garage door were installed, our team updated millwork to birch and installed new siding and exterior trim. The kitchen renovation started with opening up the walls to both the living room and dining room to create a much desired new open floor plan. Our skillful team was able to patch the new hardwoods in the kitchen and refinishing of the main level. The new gourmet kitchen also features a large island topped with gorgeous new Silestone Quartz countertops. The modern Crystal frameless cabinets, set in a Natural Cherry finish, accent nicely with a quartz backsplash. The living room was completed with a new modern gas stove. Main floor hall bath: The homeowners decided to do a full remodel to create better layout of the room. This included adding a new white Crystal Frameless linen cabinet, a larger Crystal Frameless vanity in blue, a brand new window, and new tub. The room was complete with brand new ceramic tile floor and the tub/ shower walls. A custom accent tile was installed in the shower niche. On the lower level of the home, a new garage door and new door to the backyard were installed. A second laundry in home with mudroom storage was also added. A new 3/4 bath with new cultured marble shower walls + pan were also added to the lower level. The entire lower level space was finished with Adura LVT flooring throughout. Basement level: The homeowners chose to do a complete full finish of the basement with framing for a new family room, utility room, bedroom and future second laundry. The space also features a second modern gas stove. The entire basement was finished with new Adura LVP wood plank flooring. The most unique feature in the space is the use of double custom barn doors from the new bedroom to the family room for transitional use of space.

2014 CotY Award - Whole House Remodel $250,000-$500,000 Sutter Photographers -The new kitchen has such a distinctive look and definitely reflects the homeowners’ personality. The white fretwork is backed in a color we choose from Sherwin Williams called “Festoon Aqua”. The panels are painted the same creamy white on the other side, in case they choose to go all white years from now. - The two-way glass cabinets let light from the dining room pass into the kitchen and gives it a very elegant look. - The homeowner now has a large peninsula between the two rooms that is ideal for entertaining. -Integrated Sub-Zero fridge and freezer are flanked by two pantries (back center). Other appliances are integrated or hidden within the custom cabinetry. - Two different counter-tops were chosen. The Aqua Grantique on the island (resembles soap stone) is actually a granite quarried in our state and has a smooth leather finish. The white Persia Suede was a nice match with the granite on the island. -Several soffits were eliminated to make room for taller cabinets. The cabinets to the top with crown give the illusion of a ceiling height taller than 8'. - The new bake center (right) included space for all the pans and dishes in one area. The wood counter-top separates it from the rest of the kitchen. It has a hinged platform that pulls out behind one of the doors that has her mix-master ready when she needs it without pulling it up on the counter. -Warming drawer was installed in the island opposite of the Wolff range. - Spice and oil racks are on both sides of the range for ease and convenience. - A palette of 5 colors was used throughout the home to create a peaceful and tranquil feeling.

Our first model home for Royal Oaks is now ready for viewing.With 4 bedrooms and 2-1/2 baths the Dalton has 2,713 square feet of climate-controlled space, 528 square feet of garage space, 324 square feet of covered porch and deck area and 1,332 square feet of finishable basement area for future expansion. Total square footage is approximately 4,897.

This bathroom needed help as it was tired, dated and cramped! The vanity area was open to the master bedroom and sandwiched between a closet and existing bathroom wall. Behind the bathroom wall, was a second sink, a small walk-in shower and the commode. A poorly placed linen closet ate into the area and there was a soffit over the shower adding to the cramped feeling. The ceiling was cluttered with old-school heating lamps, flush-mount fixtures and ventilation grills. The “movie star” lighting meant to add some glamour only made the bathroom feel dated and sad. Our clients wanted to bring this bathroom to life. We built a wall and added a door between the bedroom and bathroom to ensure more privacy and define the space. In addition, we removed the wall separating the actual bathroom and vanity area to make the master bathroom larger. The linen closet was also taken out so the shower could be expanded significantly. Our homeowner had recently suffered a knee injury so they were looking for future solutions that would work for them as they continued to age. We made the shower large enough to include a bench and installed a handheld sprayer located near the seat. Shower walls were reinforced so that when the day came that a grab bar was needed, they would be ready. We added a tall cabinet that featured two, deep rollouts and interior shelving to keep linens and bathroom supplies organized. Beneath the sinks, we included rollout drawers so items would not get lost in those dark areas under the plumbing. Everything that had been cluttering the ceiling was removed including the shower soffit and heat lamp. With those gone, we added evenly-spaced, recessed ceiling lights to help brighten the space making it safer and more practical. We chose a custom blue-green paint for the cabinets which was understated enough to provide a sense of serenity while still offering a splash of color to help liven up the room. Walnut-framed mirrors added a touch of warmth and the patterned floor tile made the whole room fun! An old bathroom came alive!
