DOWNLOAD NOW   The homeowners of this mid-century Colonial and family of four were frustrated with the layout of their existing kitchen which was a small, narrow peninsula layout but that was adjoining a large space that they could not figure out how to use. Stealing part of the unused space seemed like an easy solution, except that there was an existing transition in floor height which made that a bit tricky. The solution of bringing the floor height up to meet the height of the existing kitchen allowed us to do just that. This solution also offered some challenges. The exterior door had to be raised which resulted in some exterior rework, and the floor transition had to happen somewhere to get out to the garage, so we ended up “pushing” it towards what is now a new mudroom and powder room area. This solution allows for a small but functional and hidden mudroom area and more private powder room situation. Another challenge of the design was the very narrow space. To minimize issues with this, we moved the location of the refrigerator into the newly found space which gave us an L-shaped layout allowing for an island and even some shallow pantry storage. The windows over the kitchen sink were expanded in size and relocated to allow more light into the room. A breakfast table fits perfectly in the area adjacent to the existing French doors and there was even room for a small bar area that helps transition from inside to outside for entertaining. The confusing unused space now makes sense and provides functionality on a daily basis. To help bring some calm to this busy family, a pallet of soft neutrals was chosen -- gray glass tile with a simple metal accent strip, clear modern pendant lights and a neutral color scheme for cabinetry and countertops. Eat-in kitchen - large traditional u-shaped eat-in kitchen idea in Atlanta

With a unique architectural element featuring two structural beams running crosswise through the kitchen, the cabinetry needed to work to enhance the detail. On the wish list was an impressive island with seating that could replace the large kitchen table. The kitchen was designed with 33” high custom wall cabinets of varying heights, to float unobtrusively below the beams. A window was removed in order to accommodate the new beautiful focal point; a custom designed stucco hood and cooking area with a decorative ledge niche. Skylights in the vaulted area produce ample light, allowing the sink to be relocated to the large center island. The cherry glazed island conceals two dishwashers, with a soft outer arc so that diners can see one another. An elegant dinette area was created to showcase glassware and store linens. With a matching wood top and a hidden TV, this beautiful furniture piece is in direct view from the living room area, making the kitchen, at a glance, as well appointed as the rest of the home. Softly distressed ivory cabinetry with a brown glaze lightened the originally dark kitchen, creating a roomy and cheerful space. Golden tumbled travertine and crackled glass details on the backsplash accentuate the dramatic “Grand Canyon” colors of the natural stone counter tops.

Santa Cecelia granite countertops beautifully matched the bright white Plato Prelude kitchen cabinets in this Racine home. A 36" GE Monogram 5 burner gas cooktop provided a large cooking area with proper ventilation from Vent-a-hood. GE Monogram Top Control dishwasher blended in with a stainless steel finish. For the kitchen sink, a ProFlo undermount double bowl stainless steel model was used with a Delta Leland pull-out single lever kitchen faucet in Arctic steel. To compliment, an InSinkErator Pro Compact 3/4 hp model handles the disposal. New Brazilian cherry hardwood flooring adds the proper contrast needed while providing a very clean look.
