Inspiration for a large transitional l-shaped dark wood floor and brown floor kitchen remodel with white cabinets, quartz countertops, gray backsplash, stainless steel appliances, an island, an undermount sink, shaker cabinets and stone tile backsplash

The kitchen is splendid with knotty alder custom cabinets, handmade peeled bark legs were crafted to support the chiseled edge granite. A hammered copper farm sink compliments the custom copper range hood while the slate backsplash adds color. Barstools from Old Hickory, also with peeled bark frames are upholstered in a casual red and gold fabric back with brown leather seats. A vintage Persian runner is between the range and sink to effortlessly blend all the colors together. Designed by Melodie Durham of Durham Designs & Consulting, LLC. Blending contemporary and historic styles requires innovative design and a well-balanced aesthetic. That was the challenge we faced in creating a modern kitchen for this historic home in Lynnfield, MA. The final design retained the classically beautiful spatial and structural elements of the home while introducing a sleek sophistication. We mixed the two design palettes carefully. For instance, juxtaposing the warm, distressed wood of an original door with the smooth, brightness of non-paneled, maple cabinetry. A cork floor and accent cabinets of white metal add texture while a seated, step-down peninsula and built in bookcase create an open transition from the kitchen proper to an inviting dining space. Michael's Photography - The maple cabinets with a natural finish help keep the kitchen bright. We custom matched the stain on the island and cabinet trim to match the walnut millwork that is thru-out the house. The countertop on the island is made of reclaimed beams and the granite at the perimeter is call Coastal Green. The stencil was re-created to match the original stencil created by George Grant Elmslie.

This kitchen was renovated and features maple shaker style cabinets with a clear finish. Aphrodite Royal granite counters with a glossy black subway tile backsplash. Oak hardwood floors were refinished as part of this project.

This custom maple cabinets were hand glazed along with the coffered ceiling. The mahogany island has a different stone than the perimeter granite to add visual interest. The 24 x 24 travertine tile floor visually expands the room. The large window over the sink adds natural light that plays against the different textures and colors.

The walkway that we closed up in the kitchen is now home to the new stainless steel oven and matching hood vent. Previously, the oven sat on the reverse side of the kitchen which did not allow for an overhead vent. Our clients will certainly notice a difference in cooking now that the space is properly ventilated! The new wall also allows for additional cabinet storage. A space-saving Lazy Suzan sits in the lower cabinets to the left of the oven, while a stack of wide utensil drawers conveniently occupies the right side. Final photos by Impressia Photography.
