This sun-filled farmhouse kitchen is the focal point of this home’s new addition. The kitchen is white with wood elements, giving it a contemporary feel. From the recessed outlets in the island, to the columns adorning the island, to the hood with walnut trim, to the paneled refrigerator that matches the cabinetry, every detail was customized for the homeowners. The kitchen is anchored by a large island with seating for seven and tons of storage. The island is bookended by additional components topped by walnut butcher block counters. One end serves as a table and the other end is an extra area for food prep and storage. There is also a cutting board integrated into the sink. The white quartz on the island and main kitchen counters and white subway tile backsplash give the kitchen a modern, sleek look. The walnut trim around the hood is a special touch that ties directly into the walnut butcher block counters. After tearing down this home's existing addition, we set out to create a new addition with a modern farmhouse feel that still blended seamlessly with the original house. The addition includes a kitchen great room, laundry room and sitting room. Outside, we perfectly aligned the cupola on top of the roof, with the upper story windows and those with the lower windows, giving the addition a clean and crisp look. Using granite from Chester County, mica schist stone and hardy plank siding on the exterior walls helped the addition to blend in seamlessly with the original house. Inside, we customized each new space by paying close attention to the little details. Reclaimed wood for the mantle and shelving, sleek and subtle lighting under the reclaimed shelves, unique wall and floor tile, recessed outlets in the island, walnut trim on the hood, paneled appliances, and repeating materials in a symmetrical way work together to give the interior a sophisticated yet comfortable feel. A full, tall granite backsplash all the way up to and including the window sill was my client's idea to create a dramatic work station with absolutely minimal maintenance. She wanted flowers on the sill...and wanted to create impact with the double window treatment. The wall had to be furred up to the sill for plumbing and electric lines. Disposal switch on countertop.

Whenever possible sill and threshold conditions are developed to create the minimal transition between interior and exterior walking surfaces. The majority of our projects have cut or cast stone threshold treatments. Some extruded sill solutions can be introduced if needed. Outswing doors typically have a step down from interior to exterior. Inswing door sills typically need a raised threshold to prevent water blowing in. Sliding doors have top hung floor guides that are flush to finish floor and offer the most seamless transition while still acting as a water return. Bottom rolling sliding doors have a water return guide track that sits a subtle 3/16" above finish floor for a near flush transition. Whenever weather exposure is a concern, drain slots should be added to the inswing sill designs. Extreme weather environments need more extreme measures and coordination with waterproofing consultants. #JadaSteelWindows

This Residence is a beautiful single house located in an old characteristic neighborhood of West Seattle. For this project our scope of work was to remodel the existing kitchen. The owner decided to use the Polished Bianco Antico Granite, which was a perfect match for the new white cabinet's doors chosen. We supplied 3 cm countertops with polished half bullnose edges, window sill, undermount sink, faucet holes, and a 4" high backsplash. The Bianco Antico Granite with its grey and white colors, and also that spark that it has, really gave character to this kitchen, and matched very well the modern sleek look of the appliances.

Inspiration for a rustic two-story mixed siding exterior home remodel in Minneapolis

When a soft contemporary style meets artistic-minded homeowners, the result is this exquisite dwelling in Corona del Mar from Brandon Architects and Patterson Custom Homes. Complete with curated paintings and an art studio, the 4,300-square-foot residence utilizes Western Window Systems’ Series 600 Multi-Slide doors and windows to blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces. Love the overscale windows. And the outdoor spaces are so great.” Situated atop an old Civil War battle site, this new residence was conceived for a couple with southern values and a rock-and-roll attitude. The project consists of a house, a pool with a pool house and a renovated music studio. A marriage of modern and traditional design, this project used a combination of California redwood siding, stone and a slate roof with flat-seam lead overhangs. Intimate and well planned, there is no space wasted in this home. The execution of the detail work, such as handmade railings, metal awnings and custom windows jambs, made this project mesmerizing. Cues from the client and how they use their space helped inspire and develop the initial floor plan, making it live at a human scale but with dramatic elements. Their varying taste then inspired the theme of traditional with an edge. The lines and rhythm of the house were simplified, and then complemented with some key details that made the house a juxtaposition of styles. The wood Ultimate Casement windows were all standard sizes. However, there was a desire to make the windows have a “deep pocket” look to create a break in the facade and add a dramatic shadow line. Marvin was able to customize the jambs by extruding them to the exterior. They added a very thin exterior profile, which negated the need for exterior casing. The same detail was in the stone veneers and walls, as well as the horizontal siding walls, with no need for any modification. This resulted in a very sleek look.
