Located within a residential building, the design intention for this terrace was to create a visual and experiential escape from the city with a four-season garden. A full-width wall of bamboo was planted to break the monotony of the existing fence, create an ambiguous visual depth and generate a soothing rustling sound. Furnishings, including the rubbed stainless steel storage bench and planters, were carefully selected to complement the year-round vegetation.

Designer Brittany Hutt specified Norcraft Cabinetry’s Roycroft Cherry door style painted Harvest with a black glaze for the single vanity, which includes detailed decorative feet for a craftsman style accent. Florida Tile’s Sequence 9x36 plank tile in the color Breeze was used on the tub surround walls as well as the wainscot. To add some color dimension between the walls and the floor, the Sequence 9x36 plank tile in the color Drift was for the flooring. The shower wall features a center panel with accent tiles from Cement Tile Shop in the style Paris. The 2.5x9 Zenith tile in Umbia Matte from Bedrosians was used to border the wainscot as well as the center decorative panel on the shower wall. A glass panel is to be added to enclose the shower and keep a visual flow throughout the space.

To enhance a clean aesthetic, we customized the cabinet boxes to avoid any distracting seams, common with inset kitchens. But at the same time, we used decorative feet on the end cabinets and bead board accents to achieve that furniture look common in historic farmhouses. Additional nods to the farmhouse schematic include mullion glass doors, an apron front sink, beveled subway tile, turn latch knobs and bin pulls all in oiled rubbed bronze and a magnificent mushroom wood and copper custom hood.

This multi room remodel in Rye, NY included updates to the kitchen, four bathrooms, the master bedroom, and redoing the floors in several common areas. All four bathrooms were completely gutted and refinished. The floor was repaired and refinished throughout the home, and home's lighting and wiring was completely redone and brought up to code. This 3300 sq. ft. Park Avenue apartment was gut renovated and re-designed for a young couple with three young children, originally a classic pre-war, the goal was to create an open, loft-like, elegant, modernist kid-friendly apartment. The work included custom millwork, interior furniture, finishes, lighting and artwork. The emphasis was on a sophisticated color palette with modern lighting, luxurious fabrics and elegant furniture while maintaining a feeling of “home”. To accommodate the needs for a common area for the family to gather the kitchen, breakfast room, and playroom are open to each other for a spacious casual-living area for the entire family. The Dining Room offers an intimate setting for entertaining formal dinner parties with soft lighting and sensuous materials and textiles while the custom French-polished macassar ebony millwork adds a touch of drama to the space. The Living Room/Den is connected by a partial dividing wall and can be separated by scaled full-height sliding glass doors.

The Owners of this family cottage on Leonard Lake approached us to discuss a significant renovation, or a brand new cottage design. The design goals expressed as priorities by the Owners included large windows for a bright interior connected to the natural surroundings. Other specific requests included: a Kitchen with views of the lake, open-concept common living spaces, a Dining Room to seat 10 to 12 comfortably, a cozy Living Room with stone fireplace, and two Porch/ Muskoka Room spaces to offer sanctuary & privacy from common areas during large gatherings. Strong indoor/outdoor connection is provided from the cottage interior to the exterior deck and waterfront activity zone by large double sliding patio doors in the Muskoka Room, and the Dining Room.

Thundercloud Plum trees. We pruned these trees to achieve natural shaping. You can spray these with growth regulators to prematurely enhance fruit drop on ornamental trees, to reduce carrying stains into home carpets. The same spray is routinely used in common post harvest physiology efforts to enhance fruit ripening, including tomatoes, etc..

This 1930's Barrington Hills farmhouse was in need of some TLC when it was purchased by this southern family of five who planned to make it their new home. The renovation taken on by Advance Design Studio's designer Scott Christensen and master carpenter Justin Davis included a custom porch, custom built in cabinetry in the living room and children's bedrooms, 2 children's on-suite baths, a guest powder room, a fabulous new master bath with custom closet and makeup area, a new upstairs laundry room, a workout basement, a mud room, new flooring and custom wainscot stairs with planked walls and ceilings throughout the home. The home's original mechanicals were in dire need of updating, so HVAC, plumbing and electrical were all replaced with newer materials and equipment. A dramatic change to the exterior took place with the addition of a quaint standing seam metal roofed farmhouse porch perfect for sipping lemonade on a lazy hot summer day. In addition to the changes to the home, a guest house on the property underwent a major transformation as well. Newly outfitted with updated gas and electric, a new stacking washer/dryer space was created along with an updated bath complete with a glass enclosed shower, something the bath did not previously have. A beautiful kitchenette with ample cabinetry space, refrigeration and a sink was transformed as well to provide all the comforts of home for guests visiting at the classic cottage retreat. The biggest design challenge was to keep in line with the charm the old home possessed, all the while giving the family all the convenience and efficiency of modern functioning amenities. One of the most interesting uses of material was the porcelain "wood-looking" tile used in all the baths and most of the home's common areas. All the efficiency of porcelain tile, with the nostalgic look and feel of worn and weathered hardwood floors. The home’s casual entry has an 8" rustic antique barn wood look porcelain tile in a rich brown to create a warm and welcoming first impression. Painted distressed cabinetry in muted shades of gray/green was used in the powder room to bring out the rustic feel of the space which was accentuated with wood planked walls and ceilings. Fresh white painted shaker cabinetry was used throughout the rest of the rooms, accentuated by bright chrome fixtures and muted pastel tones to create a calm and relaxing feeling throughout the home. Custom cabinetry was designed and built by Advance Design specifically for a large 70” TV in the living room, for each of the children’s bedroom’s built in storage, custom closets, and book shelves, and for a mudroom fit with custom niches for each family member by name. The ample master bath was fitted with double vanity areas in white. A generous shower with a bench features classic white subway tiles and light blue/green glass accents, as well as a large free standing soaking tub nestled under a window with double sconces to dim while relaxing in a luxurious bath. A custom classic white bookcase for plush towels greets you as you enter the sanctuary bath.

Notable features include a refaced kitchen, island seating, high pressure laminate flat panel cabinet doors, refinished oak flooring, and more.
