We worked closely with this client to convert this half-acre slope from invasive vines, weeds and saplings to create this gorgeous, meadow-inspired, pollinator garden. Using a palate of largely native grasses and flowers is a delight to the senses through the four seasons. And, perhaps most importantly, serves as a vital pathway to our most cherished native birds and bees.

This DIY landscape design will focus on what to do with slopes and along drives - using no curbs or retaining wall structures. This images shows the first spring after removal of a rotten wood tie retaining wall, and digging out a huge amount of invasive English Ivy and Winter Creeper.

Side stairway of poured-in-place concrete that leads to small concrete patio. To gain more usable space in this narrow landscape and update the hardscaping and overgrown garden, my design reconfigured the pathway with poured-in-place concrete pavers accented by Mexican pebbles and a stunning variety of succulents and other site-appropriate plantings that thrive in shade and part sun. We removed the tree to create a patio area large enough to fit a table and chairs for a small group. Non-invasive/clumping Bamboo was added to help screen the patio and provide privacy. Containers give us the opportunity to paint a picture in color and texture in a portable setting. They can be changed seasonally and there are no weeds, invasive roots or pesky animals to contend with. Plants are brought closer to the eye, nose and hand, making them ideal for arthritic or just-too-busy weekend gardeners. Containers and their flowers add a touch of welcome and warmth wherever they are in the garden.

In order to provide Superficial Radiation Therapy procedures, a room with a leaded door and walls was notched out of the floorplan to deliver a non-invasive option for treatment of oncological and non-oncological conditions. A small recess in the wall outside of the radiation therapy room was created so the machinery can be operated safely outside of the room. The monitor on the screen provides patient visibility for the staff while in use.

We created multiple sitting areas and screening from stone cliff by erecting jasmine covered trellis walls along with non invasive bamboo and paver patios. Steel planters add a contemporary feel.

Archadeck of Central SC converted this client's existing screened porch/patio into a custom sunroom using an infill system with low-maintenance aluminum. This type of conversion is less invasive than a traditional sunroom build. When someone suggests to you that planting Bamboo will be pretty or will make a nice "natural" barrier or fence for your property, you kindly tell them no. Or you tell them yes and then give us a call in 10-12 years. We just finished reclaiming the backyard for a customer who bought a house that came with Bamboo already well established. It was planted who knows how many years ago and the results were pretty crazy. After a week of work with a combination of Bobcat, chipper, chainsaw, sawzall, sweat, blood and probably a few tears (or maybe that was just more sweat) we have finally reclaimed the backyard... for now. It will take regular mowings and some additional treatments to keep the stuff from coming back.
