FIR Wide-Plank Fir plank in 3-layer construction with small bevel on long side and approx. 5 mm top layer, with approx. 5 mm backing in the same wood and middle layer conifer. Tongue and groove on all sides for easy installation. This particularly robust raw material originates from native mountain forests (Austria), from trees felled in the winter months. Typical are bony, well-embedded knots up to 60 mm diameter and pronounced formation of the annual rings. Isolated knotholes up to 30 mm diameter are sealed with appropriate wood putty. Two false knots per metre of plank length are permitted. Any flaws are corrected with other knots or matching patches. Stress cracks up to 50 cm are possible.

The project involved opening the ceiling on the ground floor of a 1930s duplex and replacing the plaster finish with a gypsum ceiling system. Aluminum electrical wiring was also replaced to conform to current standards, and the existing lighting was exchanged for new pot lights in all rooms. Once the ceilings were opened, an acoustic, soundproofing insulation system was installed to absorb interior noise from the second floor of the duplex. The soundproofing system consists of blown wool insulation, padded with a thin layer of air between it and the gypsum ceiling finish, along with the installation of resilient bars. __________ Le projet consistait à ouvrir le plafond du rez-de-chaussée d'un duplex des années 1930 et à remplacer la finition de plâtre par un système de plafond de gypse. This kitchen design blends traditional elegance with contemporary functionality. It features rich dark green cabinetry that creates a sophisticated focal point while complementing the crisp checkered gray-and-white checkered pattern marble tile flooring. The space showcases perfect balance with a minimalist conical pendant light above the central island, natural light flooding through the glass panelled windows and door, and elegant architectural details including an arched doorway opening to the adjacent living room and dining room to provide only a hint of separation without complete isolation.

Sometimes a home’s location is too good to move away from and so you start to look inward for your dream home. This would be the case for our Whisper Path House, where the interior of the house needed to be completely overhauled to accommodate the owner’s dream retirement home. Two living areas and isolated kitchen, divided by a solid walls will merge together, creating a single open-concept living-kitchen-dining room within the heart of the home. The new kitchen features a massive 14ft long island, custom cabinets and a separate dishwashing area that overlooks the lush backyard. The spacious living room follows suite and features folding glass doors that allows the room to double in size by opening up on to an adjacent covered patio. The project is currently under construction.

The den serves as the hub of the Houde for this family. Opposite he picture window is the TV. Behind the chaise is a fireplace, bar and game table. The prior set up had two identical facing sofas that did not relate to the other functions of the room. By simply choosing a matching chaise opposite the sofa, and choosing the dimensions of them to be lower, the room came together as a multi-use space. No longer does the bar and game table feel isolated, they work together to invite guest to sit where they choose, at the same time, they are a part of the action. Photography by Jonn Spradlin

The 360 sq. ft. family room addition—which replaced a screened porch—also features a large window to the woods, vaulted ceiling, plus sliding doors to a new patio. It’s part of an open floor plan connecting the kitchen, living, dining and family rooms; a double pocket door can isolate the living room to control sound. The flooring is wood-look porcelain tile; LED track lights on the ceiling. An interior designer created a warm and harmonious interior decor.
