The elegant floral fabric used for the roman shade was our jumping off point for this otherwise playful bathroom for our clients young daughters. The fabric offers a variety of fun colours to accent the fixed elements that are neutral and ageless.

The mom of this family with three young boys wanted a space of her own. Requesting a cozy reading chair as well as seating to entertain a few friends, we repurposed this former office and created an inviting, usable space. Previously, the room felt very heavy and dark with all the wood paneling and cabinetry. Using wallpaper, a light area rug, white window coverings as well as brightly upholstered furniture pieces, we lightened up the space. The comfortable reading chair was the jumping off point for this room. The chair fabric was the perfect mix of blues, tying in the deep blue walls of the dining room across the hall. The drapery features hand blocked fabric that is used as a leading edge trim on solid curtain panels and Roman shades as well as decorative pillows for the loveseat. This little punch of color goes a long way. The reds and oranges in this fabric is picked up in the accessories. Chinese ceramic pottery brings the blues and whites together. Most of the accessories are vintage.

This was a full backyard renovation with a complete overhaul of an existing pool. The pool was completely refinished and raised to make shallower. The shallow end was raised as well to add a 'baja shelf' so that users can enjoy the benefits of the without completely jumping. A truly relaxing place to enjoy. BKLD also designed a deck connecting the living room and master bedroom spaces to allow for true California indoor/outdoor living. The brand new fence creates a backdrop for trees and shrubs that soften the hardscape.

The living room of this 1920s-era University City, Missouri home had gorgeous architectural details, most impressively, stunning diamond-patterned terrazzo floors. They don't build them like this anymore. We helped the homeowner with the furniture layout in the difficult (long and narrow) space and developed an overall design using her existing furnishings as a jumping-off point. We painted the walls and picture moulding a soft, velvety black to give the space seriously cozy vibes and play up the beautiful floors. Accent furniture pieces (like the green velvet chairs), French linen draperies, rug, lighting, artwork, velvet pillows, and fur throw up the sophistication quotient while creating a space thats still comfortable enough to curl up with a cup of tea and a good book.

A double decker remodel in the heart of Cambridge. Featuring cedar decking, painted mahogany railings, and an extensive set of stairs. This project was specially permitted because the house was built in the late 1800s and is zoned as a non conforming lot. There were a few extra regulatory hoops to jump through but the effort was worth it. This project really transformed the outdoor space for the whole house! Effect amplified by our clients lovely backyard and garden.

Here LED Strip Light in Warm White was used to bring bright beautiful light under each cabinet area throughout the kitchen. There were several jumps where the shelves were at different heights and to connect each section, the owners used matching Snap&Lite Interconnector cables for quick connections that did not require any soldering.

As a combined group of interior designers and home decorators, no one loves a home makeover as much as the HER Home Design team. When we got the call about this new home interior design and home decor project, we were THRILLED to jump right in! The Client Our primary client for this home makeover was a mom of a busy family of four with one adult son in college and a young adult daughter in her last years of high school. She and her husband both worked many hours in the medical field. The family had recently moved up into a larger home almost double the size of their last home. The 5 bedroom, 4 bath residence was super spacious boasting more than 6,000 sq. ft. and a beautiful in-ground swimming pool. It had great bones and a space for everyone, but it needed a ton of updates to make it comfortable for them to enjoy with their family and friends. The HER team was called in to give the home's main level a complete makeover with a fresh, up-to-date vibe. The Challenge The rooms in our project included the entry, home office, spiral staircase, two main floor powder rooms, formal living room, formal dining room, family room, sunroom and rear staircase. We were charged with creating an interior design plan with consistent contemporary, elegant theme that connected all the rooms on the main level, but still allowed each room to have its own personality. Our clients wanted new paint and lighting, updated furniture, wrought iron balusters to replace the existing wooden ones, a powder room that WOW'd them and one that was more casual. We had our work cut out for us, indeed. The Solution We were so excited to present our interior design plan for the home makeover to the family. Our new plan included: - Adding a textured grasscloth wallpaper to a wall in the home office and replacing the furniture with updated pieces and a beautiful light fixture - Updating all the lighting on the main floor to LED fixtures - there were more than 40 recessed lights! - Replacing the wooden spindles with wrought iron balusters and adding a fresh coat of high gloss to the banisters - Painting the home office, formal living room, dining room, family room, both baths and the sunroom - Highlighting the family's prized African art piece, a bust, as the focal point in their living room - Adding GORGEOUS, custom crown molding and hand-crafted chair rail in the sunroom and formal living room - Installing an ENTIRE wall of glass ceramic tile in the north powder which made it completely GLAM! - Making the guest bathroom feel bigger and brighter by laying white Carrera marble tile and painting the bathroom a soft Sea Salt green. Adding a strip of subway tile made the old peachy-colored bathroom feel updated and spa-like - Creating a new fireplace fascia on the family room side by adding stacked stone and soft, comfy seating around the fireplace - And lastly, making the family room an inviting place to relax and entertain by purchasing new, plush furniture and rearranging it to make it cozy

In June of 2015 an amazing sudden summer storm hit our area with violent winds, rain, and tornados. In the aftermath, my clients found, on top of losing 30 or so trees on their property overall, one had actually struck their home, piercing the roof in their great room. The great room was the very last room in their house that we hadn't done a complete overhaul in. Sure, we had tweaked it, purchased a few pieces of furniture, reworked the layout, but the colors and design were much the same as they had been for decades. Since things needed to be repaired and painted already, it was decided to jump in with both feet and totally rethink the room, change almost everything, and add architectural details that seemed to be missing in the original design from the 1980's. So not only were the color palette, rugs, and furnishings changed, but some very important architectural interest was added. For instance, a new, more elegant post was added at the back of the space, visually connecting the downstairs with the loft above. Also, three beaded beams have been added across the vaulted ceiling, as well as a large chandelier, giving warmth, light and visual heft to the peak and upper corners of the room. The fireplace was given a total facelift as well. New original artwork, which had inspired the palette for the space, is now highlighted inside a custom panel over a beautiful new mantel and fireplace surround. Even though this project started with something quite unexpected and scary, my clients tell me that the results are something that they just love and enjoy whether at home just the two of them, or entertaining extended family and friends.
