The top-down, bottom-up option allows you to block the sun specifically where it is most intense. This allows you to keep the room full of soft lighting without that intense glare.

To honor their roots, this eclectic 2018 new build capitalizes on the couples’ personalities in many ways. With an affinity for geodes and rock formations, as well as keeping glass and organic elements in mind, inspiration is evident in every room. The couple’s Colorado background encouraged we incorporate refined western nods throughout the residence, while sophisticated features of transitional and traditional designs. Each room was designed with consideration of the clients’ love of color except the master bedroom and bath suite, which was done in soothing neutrals.

This Santa Barbara Bungalow, located in an historical area of Santa Barbara, had tons of charm, but the kitchen was small, cramped and lacked modern day function and storage. The kitchen you see today was achieved in 2 phases, by 2 different homeowners. It’s bright and sunny, with ample storage, generous amounts of countertop space and an Island perfect for meal prep. This is a classic kitchen, with white inset Shaker style doors, which continues to be the hottest look on the market. Phase 1 improved the small kitchen by eliminating a side door and taking out a built-in banquette, thus increasing kitchen size. A small island was added and a washer & dryer area was included. Perfect for a young family. Phase 2 enlarged the kitchen even more. A back bedroom was opened up to the kitchen, providing space for the office and bookcase areas. The laundry was moved to another part of the house, thus allowing for more cabinetry and countertop space. Two pantries were added, along with open shelving, plus alcoves for a microwave and a kitchen TV. A maple free standing Island is a classic contrast to the white cabinetry. By specifying maple countertops for the office area, it ties the kitchen and office areas together. Hahka Kitchens handled both phases of the kitchen remodel, and we were able to order matching cabinets and obtain the same countertop material. The result is that the kitchen is completely integrated with no evidence that this amazing kitchen was done in 2 stages, 8 years apart. The new homeowner did replace knobs and pulls from phase 1, and more ordered for the new cabinets, thus putting her mark on the kitchen. And the new homeowner found the sturdy and functional Island, which was a perfect complement to the white shaker cabinets. One last note about the office area, which is flooded with light from patio doors and large windows. The desk, with white shaker doors that match the kitchen, has loads of functionality. 2 large desk drawers, with hanging file folders, a pull-out trash can, small desk drawers and open shelving meet the needs of a home office. The built-in bookcase, which was fitted into an existing recessed alcove, was expertly installed and provides both open display areas and hidden storage. The “V groove doors” complement the Shaker doors, adding a furniture charm to the office. This expanded kitchen is truly the “heart of this historic home”.

This client approached us to help her redesign her kitchen. It turned out to be a redesign of their spacious kitchen, informal dining, wet bar, work desk & pantry. Our design started with the clean-up of some intrusive structure. We were able to replace a dropped beam and post with a larger flush beam and removed and intrusively placed post. This simple structural change opened up more design opportunities and helped the areas flow easily between one another. Special attention was applied to the show stopping stained gray kitchen island which became the focal point of the kitchen. The previous L-shaped was lined with columns and arches visually closing itself and its users off from the living and dining areas nearby. The owner was able to source a beautiful one piece slab of honed Vermont white danby marble for the island. This spacious island provides generous seating for 4-5 people and plenty of space for cooking prep and clean up. After removing the arches from the island area we did not want to clutter up the space, so two lantern fixtures from Circa lighting were selected to add an eye attracting detail as well as task lighting. The island isn’t the only pageant winner in this kitchen, the range wall has plenty to look at with the Wolf cook top, the custom vent hood, by Modern-Aire, and classic Carrera marble subway tile back splash and the perimeter counter top of honed absolute black granite. Study room - mid-sized traditional built-in desk light wood floor study room idea in Orange County with brown walls

In a wooded area of Lafayette, a mid-century home was re-imagined for a graphic designer and kindergarten teacher couple and their three children. A major new design feature is a high ceiling great room that wraps from the front to the back yard, turning a corner at the kitchen and ending at the family room fireplace. This room was designed with a high flat roof to work in conjunction with existing roof forms to create a unified whole, and raise interior ceiling heights from eight to over ten feet. All new lighting and large floor to ceiling Fleetwood aluminum windows expand views of the trees beyond. The existing home was enlarged by 700 square feet with a small exterior addition enlarging the kitchen over an existing deck, and a larger amount by excavating out crawlspace at the garage level to create a new home office with full bath, and separate laundry utility room. The remodeled residence became 3,847 square feet in total area including the garage. Exterior curb appeal was improved with all new Fleetwood windows, stained wood siding and stucco. New steel railing and concrete steps lead up to the front entry. Front and rear yard new landscape design by Huettl Landscape Architecture dramatically alters the site. New planting was added at the front yard with landscape lighting and modern concrete pavers and the rear yard has multiple decks for family gatherings with the focal point a concrete conversation circle with central fire feature. Everything revolves around the corner kitchen, large windows to the backyard, quartz countertops and cabinetry in painted and walnut finishes. The homeowners enjoyed the process of selecting Heath Tile for the kitchen backsplash and white oval tiles at the family room fireplace. Black brick tiles by Fireclay were used on the living room hearth. The kitchen flows into the family room all with views to the beautifully landscaped yards. The primary suite has a built-in window seat with large windows overlooking the garden, walnut cabinetry in a skylit walk-in closet, and a large dramatic skylight bouncing light into the shower. The kid’s bath also has a skylight slot with light angling downward over double sinks. More colorful tile shows up in these spaces, as does a geometric patterned tile in the downstairs office bath shower. The large yard is taken full advantage of with concrete paved walkways, stairs and firepit circle. New retaining walls in the rear yard helped to add more level usable outdoor space, with wood slats to visually blend them into the overall design. The end result is a beautiful transformation of a mid-century home, that both captures the client’s personalities and elevates the house into the modern age.

Appointments can be scheduled days, nights, and weekends either in your home or in our office and selection center. During office appointments we display clients kitchens on a flat screen TV and help them look through 100’s of sample doorstyles, almost a thousand sample finish blocks and sample kitchen cabinets. During home visits we can bring samples, take measurements, and make design changes on laptops showing you what your kitchen can look like in the very room being renovated. This is more convenient for our customers and it eliminates the expense of staffing and maintaining a larger space that is open to walk in traffic. We pass the significant savings on to our customers and so we sell cabinetry for less than other dealers, even home centers like Lowes and The Home Depot. We believe that since a web site like Houzz.com has over half a million kitchen photos any advantage to going to a full kitchen showroom with full kitchen displays has been lost. Almost no customer today will ever get to see a display kitchen in their door style and finish because there are just too many possibilities. And the design of each kitchen is unique anyway. An open concept kitchen and dining room was a must in order to accomodate this large family's lifestyle. Inviting the outdoors in, we kept the interior space in a warm beige natural tone. The kitchen backsplash is in a beautiful wood bark finish tile that extends into the dining room.

Inspiration for a small transitional built-in desk dark wood floor and brown floor study room remodel in Minneapolis with blue walls

Design Services Provided - Architect was asked to convert this 1950's Split Level Style home into a Traditional Style home with a 2-story height grand entry foyer. The new design includes modern amenities such as a large 'Open Plan' kitchen, a family room, a home office, an oversized garage, spacious bedrooms with large closets, a second floor laundry room and a private master bedroom suite for the owners that includes two walk-in closets and a grand master bathroom with a vaulted ceiling. The Architect presented the new design using Professional 3D Design Software. This approach allowed the Owners to clearly understand the proposed design and secondly, it was beneficial to the Contractors who prepared Preliminary Cost Estimates. The construction duration was nine months and the project was completed in September 2015. The client is thrilled with the end results! We established a wonderful working relationship and a lifetime friendship. I am truly thankful for this opportunity to design this home and work with this client!

We were able to transform and re-design this kitchen that now enables it to be called not just a "dream Kitchen", but also holds the award for "Best Kitchen in Westchester for 2016 by Westchester Home Magazine".
