Design ideas for a large traditional front yard gravel landscaping in Boston.

A flowering Kousa Dogwood frames a view of the front door. The challenge of this site was to design functional living spaces while resolving a series of problems. Two entry courts offer suitable welcomes to the home: a formal granite court that is approached from above as one descends down a once blind driveway, and a more utilitarian play court off the garage. The rear yard, once disconnected from the house, is terraced and suitable for entertaining. A granite stair descends from the terrace to a new expanded lower lawn. A custom fire pit sits off the upper terrace and provides a more intimate gathering space.

This beachfront home has six varieties of Daylily (Hemerocallis) bloom from May through September. They are used as sustainable groundcover. Clipped Privet hedge surrounds the field to delineate the the edges. Red Oak trees, Kousa Dogwood and Endless Summer Hydrangea are other plantings on the coastal property.

We were asked to create something really special for one of our most admired clients. This home has been a labor of love for both of us as we finally made it exactly what she wanted it to be. After many concept ideas we landed on a design that is stunning! All of the elements on her wish list are incorporated in this challenging, multi-level landscape: A front yard to match the modern traditional-style home while creating privacy from the street; a side yard that proudly connects the front and back; and a lower level with plantings in lush greens, whites, purples and pinks and plentiful lawn space for kids and dogs. Her outdoor living space includes an outdoor kitchen with bar, outdoor living room with fireplace, dining patio, a bedroom-adjacent lounging patio with modern fountain, enclosed vegetable garden, rose garden walk with European-style fountain and meditation bench, and a fire pit with sitting area on the upper level to take in the panoramic views of the sunset over the wooded ridge. Outdoor lighting brings it alive at night, and for parties you can’t beat the killer sound system!

The homeowners of this beautiful property on Harwich Lane in Andover, Massachusetts wanted to revamp their landscape. Andover Landscape Design and Construction created a custom garden landscape utilizing beautiful purple wild flowers, black-eyed Susans, and greenery inside a perfectly-edged, plush lawn.

Immediately after installation the plantings look somewhat sparse to the untrained eye. Entirely by design, plants grow and we need to allow adequate space for them to mature.
