The addition of two small puppies meant some added defenses needed to be installed. This panel fence was put in to keep the curious pups safe from any unwanted guests! It also made for a beautiful back drop to the landscape in the foreground, acting as a canvas.

I designed the ADU to be tucked back as a vertical element to create a cozy space for the hot tub area and not take over the space vertically if it were in other spots. By having it off to the side, it grounds the garden and becomes a destination as well as recedes rather than dominate the space. It acts as an office space. Keep in mind that you can always do heated flooring if you do a concrete pad or tile as we planned for in this space. Energy efficient and also saves on space. The brick and bluestone terrace overlooks the backyard and the pool. The outdoor shower is tucked a few steps below. Bluestone steppers meander through the lawn. The clients of this project desired a cohesive landscape where neighborhood children could gather and play and adults could also congregate for large parties. A pool and paved drive court provide multiple areas for play while a raised terrace allows for supervision as well as separation. Although the circulation was driven by the needs of the children, it does not impose on the adult spaces. The landscape provides enjoyment for the whole family in a safe and beautiful environment.

VERSA-LOK seat walls surround the fire pit on each side, and are bookended with Ledgestone Wood Box Kits to safely store firewood. Pavers and walls are in matching Bronze Blend with black caps and inset border.

Uplighting the large palm trees adds impact to the features and provides a sense of depth perception at night. The inset lights on the steps guide you safely to the raised seating area.

After working with us on landscape projects at their home and business, these homeowners turned their attention to their lake retreat. A flagstone patio adds cozy entertaining space near the house, while natural stone steps and mown paths add safe access up and down the hillside to the beach. Native plants form the backbone of the landscaping, with planting pockets for colorful annuals arranged throughout.

Landscape lighting not only keeps outdoor revelers safe and secure by night; it also lights other facets of the landscape for something fresh to enjoy after the sun goes down.

The walk out lower level engages the landscaping. The elevated deck allows for bear viewing from a safe spot. The large cottonwood trees provide natural shade from the sun and allow this home to remain cool in the hottest summer temperatures.

An entertaining highlight is the waterslide which is accessed via flagstone steps and ledgerock walls built into the hillside and surrounded by dense plantings to look like they’ve always been there. Sliders drop safely into the pool at a notched landing area separate from the rest of the deep section. Two sheer descent waterfalls add a touch of drama.
