Inspiration for a country home design remodel in DC Metro

High in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, this majestic lodge was custom designed by MossCreek to provide rustic elegant living for the extended family of our clients. Featuring four spacious master suites, a massive great room with floor-to-ceiling windows, expansive porches, and a large family room with built-in bar, the home incorporates numerous spaces for sharing good times. Unique to this design is a large wrap-around porch on the main level, and four large distinct and private balconies on the upper level. Many of the interior partitions were removed to create an expansive loft-like space. The openness would become the unifying element in the design and permit light to enter the space from the south and east. No longer defined by partitions, the kitchen, dining and living spaces enjoy a connectedness without sacrificing their individual spatial integrity. Separation and privacy between spaces is achieved through the use of sliding doors and screens. The inspiration was fueled by examples of Japanese architecture known as sukiya zukuri, where lower ceilings, simple wood paneling and shoji screens were commonly used. This image shows the sliding panels partly closed to conceal the sunroom.

New Mood Design was inspired to redesign an open-plan, Buckhead loft. Our client installed a contemporary kitchen last year, then realized that nothing in their loft suited the new kitchen! Our job - redesign the loft space so that it harmonizes aesthetically with the modern kitchen! We've repainted the entire loft with a bright, fresher paint scheme. Blond-colored floors were refinished and strained a rich, dark, warm, grey-taupe stain to offset the high-gloss kitchen and blend with warm brick walls. The new cocktail/wine bar design complements the adjacent kitchen. Modern lighting, furnishings, artwork and soft goods were also designed into the remodeled space. Dalston revamp: Hackney, London: 1000sqft Flat renovation and new dormer loft conversion. Beautiful materials, bespoke detailing and clever use of space exploit the maximum potential of this compact 1960’s 1st floor flat and roof space. Approval for the layout was achieved with the introduction of a sprinkler system allowing a new staircase to rise from the living room and form an under-stairs wardrobe space in the bedroom below, further allowing two new bedrooms, an en-suite, walk-in wardrobe and eves storage areas to be created in the loft space.

This one story home was transformed into a mid-century modern masterpiece with the addition of a second floor. Its expansive wrap around deck showcases the view of White Rock Lake and the Dallas Skyline and giving this growing family the space it needed to stay in their beloved home. We renovated the downstairs with modifications to the kitchen, pantry, and laundry space, we added a home office and upstairs, a large loft space is flanked by a powder room, playroom, 2 bedrooms and a jack and jill bath. The best features of this loft were formerly obscured by its worst. While the apartment has a rich history—it’s located in a former bike factory, it lacked a cohesive floor plan that allowed any substantive living space. A retired teacher rented out the loft for 10 years before an unexpected fire in a lower apartment necessitated a full building overhaul. He jumped at the chance to renovate the apartment and asked InSitu to design a remodel to improve how it functioned and elevate the interior. We created a plan that reorganizes the kitchen and dining spaces, integrates abundant storage, and weaves in an understated material palette that better highlights the space’s cool industrial character.
