The paint trick that saves SO much time ?
The best way to store paint brushes for a period of several hours or more is by wrapping the entire head of the brush in plastic wrap or a plastic bag.
Create a tight seal at the neck of the brush using masking tape, and store for up to two days in a cool area of the home or in your freezer.
Save this trick for later! Did you know this was true? Comment below if you did!

The geometric precision of this custom pool reflects the high-end landscape architecture Alterra is known for in North Texas. By utilizing large-format stone pavers for the pool deck, we create a stable, heat-resistant surface that thrives in the Dallas climate. A stacked stone water feature provides both a visual anchor and ambient sound, masking neighborhood noise to enhance the outdoor living experience. The inclusion of a large glazed turquoise planter introduces an organic pop of color that complements the water, bridging the gap between the hardscape and the lush perimeter greenery.

The entry door was first designed digitally and then laser-cut onto a large mask of painters tape where the reverse image was carefully applied to the glass. Then etching solution was spread on the surface to permanently engrave the detailed scene.

The owners of this shared Brooklyn rooftop garden needed to create three individual spaces without feeling too closed off, dark, or boxed in. The solution is a series of custom cedar trellises at varying heights mixed with lightweight planters that delineate each of the owner's deeded spaces. Flowering vines grow through the trellises to provide added privacy during the warmer months as well as pops of color and texture. River birch trees offer dappled shade and dimension, flowering perennials add color, fragrance, and attract pollinators, and ornamental grasses provide texture and movement while also masking some ugly HVAC units. The resulting rooftop space is open and breezy while also giving each family their own special private oasis.

Where previously water runoff from the adjacent golf course gathered, now stands a refined backyard space with retaining walls and screening plantings. Dry laid buff stones, granite boulders, and curved steel walls combine to give the backyard height and definition. A small grit patio sits off the covered patio of the house and is protected by multiple large trees and shrubs. A revamped front driveway uses moss rock boulders and large trees to mask the entrance and provide seasonal color and interest. A grit path connects to the golf cart path and the backyard. This project is in Boulder, CO.

DM Designs - Chicago
Design Objective: Convert a studio on the 87th floor of the John Hancock Building into a sophisticated, playful, elegant Mad Men-esque Mens Club / Pied a Terre. This was a complete gut renovation.
Our inspiration was the vintage orange tweed sofa the client had purchased for the space. We wanted classy, not kitschy, so designing the "bones" of the condo in timeless and elegant materials was essential. To ground the space and make a dramatic first impression, we selected reclaimed hardwood flooring from a 1800 French Chateau and laid it on the timeless and classic herringbone pattern. From there, we added seagrass wallpaper, custom wood paneled walls, vintage gun and decorative mirrors from the 1970's for the kitchen backsplash and added classic furnishings such as the Platner dining table and black tulip chairs. The coolest feature by far was the custom bookshelf/hidden door we designed to create a library foyer that masked the entry to the bathroom. Inside the bathroom, we converted a vintage, mid century modern bar cabinet into a vanity complete with a honey onyx countertop that lights up from within when you enter the space. Completing the space overall is a framed, original Men's Club Charter that greets you upon entry and that belonged to the client's father.
