Individual seating is included in the rear and notice that all of the walls are radius. A very large CRT projector ages this room, but the design elements are still valid today.

In this renovation, the once-framed closed-in double-door closet in the laundry room was converted to a locker storage system with room for roll-out laundry basket drawer and a broom closet. The laundry soap is contained in the large drawer beside the washing machine. Behind the mirror, an oversized custom medicine cabinet houses small everyday items such as shoe polish, small tools, masks...etc. The off-white cabinetry and slate were existing. To blend in the off-white cabinetry, walnut accents were added with black hardware. The wallcovering was custom-designed to feature line drawings of the owner's various dog breeds. A magnetic chalkboard for pinning up art creations and important reminders finishes off the side gable next to the full-size upright freezer unit.

This secondary guest bedroom now has a mix of furnishings to include hand painted nightstands, iron bed frame and table lamps, luxurious layers of bed linens, vintage Ralph Lauren zebra pillows, Turkish shag rug and a vibrant collection of hand painted coconut shell face masks from our travels through Mexico.

This client sought to update their recently purchased home in Alexandria. A gourmet kitchen that complemented the size of the home and property was a top priority. They wanted more light-filled and connected living spaces for their growing family. Updating the finishes throughout the home was also a necessity. Design challenges included an existing utility space that occupied a large portion of the kitchen footprint, making the kitchen cramped and narrow. In addition, the foyer was dark, confined and uninviting as a result of its organization and enclosed nature of the main stair. To overcome the challenges, we relocated the utilities, creating a more usable footprint for the kitchen. The aging furnace was replaced with a high efficiency furnace located in a newly insulated and conditioned crawl space. A new hot water heater was placed in the finished attic, and the electrical panel was also relocated. Then, we designed a portion of the kitchen to mask the need for dropped structural headers: the refrigerator, freezer and pantry were placed under the area that necessitated a drop bulkhead, creating a sleek built-in area for the appliances. Once the utilities were moved, the kitchen could be opened up to a large family room and designed with a much-improved layout. Two new four-panel exterior doors replaced small doors at the family room to connect the main living space with the beautiful yard. In addition, white bead board was added to the family room ceiling, creating more visual continuity with the adjacent white kitchen. To transform the foyer into a grand and welcoming entry, a small amount of space was taken from a large second floor bedroom, and the entire second floor structure was supported with a series of flush beams to allow the stair to be opened and expose the rail. New glass doors to the den, relocated at an angle from the main stair provide the foyer with more natural light and a wider, more inviting path to the kitchen. In the master suite, the bedroom and bathroom entry doors were relocated to improve the room’s layout and offer more bathroom privacy and space for a walk-in closet. This East Village kitchen design focuses on a sleek, integrated look using high-pressure laminate cabinetry in a soft grey tone and matching custom panels for all major appliances. The space is defined by Bria Elephantino quartz countertops and a full-height backsplash that complements the white-honed porcelain floor tiles. Professional-grade Bosch appliances and matte black Brizo fixtures are used throughout, while clever architectural details—like hidden lighting grooves and a custom cabinet to mask utility pipes—ensure the kitchen is both highly functional and visually uncluttered.

Lattice masks the underside of the deck. Herb boxes are easy to get to. Rails provide safety. Azara tree/shrub for year round greenery. Shrubs to soften the lattice. The tiled deck is edged with a bull nose that cups the edges.

This art alcove with a removable glass shelf masks a large metal air duct cover which needed to be covered yet accessible while also retaining it's function for airflow. Closets with custom storage add valuable storage space.

This rambling Wrightian villa in Short Hills, N.J embraces the landscape, creating intimate courtyards, and masking the apparent size of the structure, which is about 6,000 square feet. The home serves as a vessel for its owners collection of significant modern art.

In order to add drama to the entry to the residence, we removed all of the door frames and visible hinges and paneled the right side of the 23' passage in a satin finished Sycamore thus masking the fact the a large closet, guest bedroom and Master suite are accessed through this area. The opening on the left takes one to the kitchen, utility closet and 3rd bathroom. The original kitchen entrance was where the black console now sits, was relocated by MB Designs, LTD to, a. make the entrance more dramatic and elegant, and, b. to create a more functional kitchen. The recessed ceilings on this level of the residence were defined by creating soffits housing inset lighting that both provided illumination and defined the areas of the entrance, Dining Room and Living Room. This subtle division was further enhanced by creating a carpet in each respective area all sharing the same filed while each having its own accent colored band. The 3 entry pendants are custom fixtures of Mica and like the carpets and all interior details, designed by MB Designs.
