Relocating to Portland, Oregon from California, this young family immediately hired Amy to redesign their newly purchased home to better fit their needs. The project included updating the kitchen, hall bath, and adding an en suite to their master bedroom. Removing a wall between the kitchen and dining allowed for additional counter space and storage along with improved traffic flow and increased natural light to the heart of the home. This galley style kitchen is focused on efficiency and functionality through custom cabinets with a pantry boasting drawer storage topped with quartz slab for durability, pull-out storage accessories throughout, deep drawers, and a quartz topped coffee bar/ buffet facing the dining area. The master bath and hall bath were born out of a single bath and a closet. While modest in size, the bathrooms are filled with functionality and colorful design elements. Durable hex shaped porcelain tiles compliment the blue vanities topped with white quartz countertops. The shower and tub are both tiled in handmade ceramic tiles, bringing much needed texture and movement of light to the space. The hall bath is outfitted with a toe-kick pull-out step for the family’s youngest member!

In the master bathroom we chose to go with the same cabinetry as the kitchen. The vanity is roughly 10 feet long with the double sinks and center hutch. For the floor we went with a large white hexagon and large patterned hexagon that is bordered with a gray linen looking tile.

These Canton, MA homeowners wanted to transform their standard build master bath into a more opened up and luxurious space. Knowing they would be living in the home for many years, the couple wanted a comfortable and spa-like feel. To achieve this, Renovisions Design and Remodeling removed the existing door to the bathroom and re-worked a pocket door into the design creating a better flow into the bath from the master bedroom. Replacing the existing fiberglass one-piece shower/tub with a custom built walk-in shower provided a larger space that is both functional and beautiful and a highly desired space to wind down at the end of their long workdays. Gorgeous porcelain tile compliments granite shelving, shower seat and curbing that was fabricated to match the existing vanity countertop. A frameless glass enclosure created a half-wall allowing for more light into the room yet ensures privacy. Just a step away, a thermostatically controlled, programmable heated floor entices the homeowners on chilly mornings. Now the clients have the master bathroom suite they had always wanted.

A remodeled master bathroom that now complements our clients' lifestyle. The main goal was to make the space more functional while also giving it a refreshing and updated look. Our first action was to replace the vanity. We installed a brand new storage-centric vanity that stayed within the size of the previous one, wasting no additional space. Additional features included custom mirrors perfectly fitted to their new vanity, elegant new sconce lighting, and a new mosaic tiled shower niche. The homeowners wanted to improve the layout and function of their tired 1980’s bathrooms. The master bath had a huge sunken tub that took up half the floor space and the shower was tiny and in small room with the toilet. We created a new toilet room and moved the shower to allow it to grow in size. This new space is far more in tune with the client’s needs. The kid’s bath was a large space. It only needed to be updated to today’s look and to flow with the rest of the house. The powder room was small, adding the pedestal sink opened it up and the wallpaper and ship lap added the character that it needed

This Condo has been in the family since it was first built. And it was in desperate need of being renovated. The kitchen was isolated from the rest of the condo. The laundry space was an old pantry that was converted. We needed to open up the kitchen to living space to make the space feel larger. By changing the entrance to the first guest bedroom and turn in a den with a wonderful walk in owners closet. Then we removed the old owners closet, adding that space to the guest bath to allow us to make the shower bigger. In addition giving the vanity more space. The rest of the condo was updated. The master bath again was tight, but by removing walls and changing door swings we were able to make it functional and beautiful all that the same time.

The existing space was large with a vaulted ceiling, lots of natural light and an existing private water closet. So the bones of the space were great and the room just needed a few tweaks. We started by relocating the cramped shower that shared the water closet room, to the existing tub location. The giant whirlpool tub took up more than its share of real estate in the room, and the beautiful new shower, which gets used daily, now sits in its spot. The new shower features beautiful lass tile accents as well as a bench seat and frameless shower door. The new tub is freestanding and sits in front of an updated slightly smaller window, providing a sculptural focal point upon entry to the room. There was still plenty of room for two large vanities, and a corner storage cabinet and appliance garage that hides small bathroom necessities. The water closet remains in its own private room and the area that once housed the shower, is now an additional closet for the master bedroom. The room is a pallet of soft grays and whites with the cherry vanities adding some warmth. Polished chrome and glass accents bring some sparkle to the space. The 70th Street project started as an empty and non-functional attic space. We designed a completely new master suite, including a new bathroom, walk-in closet, bedroom and nursery for our clients. The space had many challenges because of its sloped and low ceilings. We embraced those challenges and used the ceiling slopes to our advantage to make the attic feel more spacious overall, as well as more functional for our clients. Photography: Mike Duryea

Rodwin Architecture & Skycastle Homes Location: Boulder, Colorado, USA Interior design, space planning and architectural details converge thoughtfully in this transformative project. A 15-year old, 9,000 sf. home with generic interior finishes and odd layout needed bold, modern, fun and highly functional transformation for a large bustling family. To redefine the soul of this home, texture and light were given primary consideration. Elegant contemporary finishes, a warm color palette and dramatic lighting defined modern style throughout. A cascading chandelier by Stone Lighting in the entry makes a strong entry statement. Walls were removed to allow the kitchen/great/dining room to become a vibrant social center. A minimalist design approach is the perfect backdrop for the diverse art collection. Yet, the home is still highly functional for the entire family. We added windows, fireplaces, water features, and extended the home out to an expansive patio and yard. The cavernous beige basement became an entertaining mecca, with a glowing modern wine-room, full bar, media room, arcade, billiards room and professional gym. Bathrooms were all designed with personality and craftsmanship, featuring unique tiles, floating wood vanities and striking lighting.
