The front is composed of matching board and batten gables flanking a covered porch featuring square columns with pegged capitols. A tour of the rear façade reveals an asymmetrical elevation with a tall living room gable anchoring the right and a low retractable-screened porch to the left. Inside, the front foyer opens up to a wide staircase clad in horizontal boards for a more modern feel. To the left, and through a short hall, is a study with private access to the main levels public bathroom. Further back a corridor, framed on one side by the living rooms stone fireplace, connects the master suite to the rest of the house. Entrance to the living room can be gained through a pair of openings flanking the stone fireplace, or via the open concept kitchen/dining room. Neutral grey cabinets featuring a modern take on a recessed panel look, line the perimeter of the kitchen, framing the elongated kitchen island. Twelve leather wrapped chairs provide enough seating for a large family, or gathering of friends. Anchoring the rear of the main level is the screened in porch framed by square columns that match the style of those found at the front porch. Upstairs, there are a total of four separate sleeping chambers. The two bedrooms above the master suite share a bathroom, while the third bedroom to the rear features its own en suite. The fourth is a large bunkroom above the homes two-stall garage large enough to host an abundance of guests.

A mid-century styled home needed a master bath to match. It also needed to function better for the homeowners who plan to age in place and required a space to do some yoga! A curbless shower, large TV and open floor space, plenty of grab bars, and an updated palette achieved all of these goals. Cabinetry is from Ultracraft - a vertical grain textured melamine, Husk, on a slab door style. We chose Top Knobs tab pull hardware to keep a sleek look. Caesarstone quartz was used as countertops, their Calacatta Nuvo color, to mimic marble and blend with the tile selections in the remainder of the room. The main floor is Daltile Exquisite Ivory in 12x24. Transitioning into the curbless shower, we chose their Astoria Gray 1x2 as the shower floor. The shower was sloped to an Infinity Drain in brushed nickel. Up the walls we have the Monte Skyline Honed mosaic from Marble Systems, with the Modern Bamboo Skyline tile surrounding the knee wall. Most plumbing materials were sourced from Toto. This includes the Drake II two-piece commode, undercounter rectangular sink, and the faucet and shower fixtures from their Soiree collection. Each vanity also hosts a Serenity floating lighted frameless mirror from Electric Mirror.

VPC partnered with the owners of Rustic Mountain Residence to help them build this mountain home of their dreams. The stunning structure was carefully crafted for full-time residency in a community tucked away in North Carolina’s High Country. Rustic Mountain Residence is a 1,999 square foot home complete with three bedrooms, two and a half baths, and a two-car garage. The home’s exterior was designed with an architectural shingle roof displaying metal accents, natural stone veneer, cypress, and nickel gap siding. The meticulous attention to detail and design is evident in the exterior, including gorgeous bark accents and stark black painted windows and soffit. Inside the residence, tongue and groove ceilings, pine hardwood flooring, canned lighting, and shadowbox trim were used on all doors and windows. Noteworthy features on the main level include a sliding barn door in the powder room and reclaimed barnwood accent walls in the dining space. The great room offers a grand and warm living space with windows peering into the expansive mountain vistas, a natural stone gas fireplace, and an open concept with a view into the kitchen. The kitchen represents the quintessence of Rustic Mountain Residence by showcasing an exquisite, hammered copper sink, large subway tile backsplash, and custom cabinets. The master bedroom and master bathroom are truly a charming retreat for the homeowners with high ceilings in the bedroom and an adjoining full master bath. The two guest rooms and shared bathroom upstairs are ideal for hosting family and friends with a hybrid office in the second guest room. From start to finish, we assisted the homeowners to build the mountain retreat they envisioned. The option to downsize was not an option for the empty nesters who have lived in this home for over twenty-five years. Situated in TMR, the sprawling home has been the venue for many social events, dinner parties and family celebrations. With grown children living abroad, and grand children on the way, it was important that the new kitchen be highly functional and conducive to hosting informal, yet large family gatherings. The kitchen had been relocated to the garage in the late eighties during a large renovation and was looking tired. Eight foot concrete ceilings meant the new materials and design had to create the illusion of height and light. White lacquered doors and integrated fridge panels extend to the ceiling and cast a bright reflection into the room. The teak dining table and chairs were the only elements to preserve from the old kitchen, and influenced the direction of materials to be incorporated into the new design. The island and selected lower cabinetry are made of butternut and oiled in a matte finish that relates to the teak dining set. Oversized tiles on the heated floors resemble soft concrete. The mandate for the second floor included the overhaul of the master ensuite, to create his and hers closets, and a library. Walls were relocated and the floor plan reconfigured to create a luxurious ensuite of dramatic proportions. A walk-in shower, partitioned toilet area, and 18’ vanity are among many details that add visual interest and comfort. Minimal white oak panels wrap around from the bedroom into the ensuite, and integrate two full-height pocket doors in the same material.

After having lived in 22 different places all around the world, this family decided to settle in a Dutch colonial home in Harding Township. The house sits on a wonderful piece of property that is only challenged by the wetlands that surround it. For this reason, we had to work within the existing footprint and not consider any additions. The homeowners wanted to be able to host the holidays in their new home which meant we had an aggressive design and construction schedule. We started the design work in the Spring of 2012 and construction took place over the Summer and into the Fall. By Thanksgiving, the project was complete, with no meaningful cost overruns. Renovations included a new kitchen, mudroom, and office/library on the first floor and a new master suite, hall bath, home office, and laundry room upstairs. The challenge was creating comfortable space with clean lines that would accommodate the homeowner’s casual and worldly lifestyle, but would not feel out of place with the character of the existing house. The kitchen is a glorious hard-working space with lots of counter space, space for a giant farmer’s table, and symmetrical views through oversized double hung-windows out to the expansive yard. The master bath is outfitted with wood, stone, and metal, and also includes artifacts from some of their world travels. In a second phase of work, we designed some outbuilding to further enhance the character of the property. Currently we are working with the family to design a memorial to honor their child who died of Leukemia.

A paint refresh was applied to the existing cabinets, further enhanced by the introduction of sparkling Glisten Quartz surfaces. The backsplash was arranged, utilizing the distinguished Turchese Gleeze tile, creating a cohesive look matching the shower. The subtleties inevitably bring about remarkable transformations. The Delta Stryke wall-mounted faucets present a striking aesthetic, while the addition of two Quaid Wall Mirrors imparts a layer of custom sophistication to the space.

Contemporary raked rooflines give drama and beautiful lines to both the exterior and interior of the home. The exterior finished in Caviar black gives a soft presence to the home while emphasizing the gorgeous natural landscaping, while the Corten roof naturally rusts and patinas. Corridors separate the different hubs of the home. The entry corridor finished on both ends with full height glass fulfills the clients vision of a home — celebration of outdoors, natural light, birds, deer, etc. that are frequently seen crossing through. The large pool at the front of the home is a unique placement — perfectly functions for family gatherings. Panoramic windows at the kitchen 7' ideal workstation open up to the pool and patio (a great setting for Taco Tuesdays). The mostly white "Gathering" room was designed for this family to host their 15+ count dinners with friends and family. Large panoramic doors open up to the back patio for free flowing indoor and outdoor dining. Poggenpohl cabinetry throughout the kitchen provides the modern luxury centerpiece to this home. Walnut elements emphasize the lines and add a warm space to gather around the island. Pearlescent plaster finishes the walls and hood of the kitchen with a soft simmer and texture. Corridors were painted Caviar to provide a visual distinction of the spaces and to wrap the outdoors to the indoors. In the master bathroom, soft grey plaster was selected as a backdrop to the vanity and master shower. Contrasted by a deep green hue for the walls and ceiling, a cozy spa retreat was created. A corner cutout on the shower enclosure brings additional light and architectural interest to the space. In the powder bathroom, a large circular mirror mimics the black pedestal vessel sinks. Amber-colored cut crystal pendants are organically suspended. A patinated copper and walnut grid was hand-finished by the client. And in the guest bathroom, white and walnut make for a classic combination in this luxury guest bath. Jedi wall sconces are a favorite of guests — we love how they provide soft lighting and a spotlight to the surface.
