Our wonderful client and friend was seeking a massive upgrade to a newly purchased home and had hopes of integrating her European inspired aesthetic throughout. At the forefront of consideration was clean-lined simplicity, and this concept is evident in every space in the home. The highlight of the project is the heart of the home: the kitchen. We integrated smooth, sleek, white slab cabinetry to create a functional kitchen with minimal door details and upgraded modernity. The cabinets are topped with concrete-look quartz from Caesarstone; a welcome soft contrast that further emphasizes the contemporary approach we took. The backsplash is a simple and elongated white subway paired against white grout for a modernist grid that virtually melts into the background. Taking the kitchen far outside of its intended footprint, we created a floating island with a waterfall countertop that can house critical cooking fixtures on one side and adequate seating on the other. The island is backed by a dramatic exotic wood countertop that extends into a full wall splash reaching the ceiling. Pops of black and high-gloss finishes in appliances add a touch of drama in an otherwise white field. The entire main level has new hickory floors in a natural finish, allowing the gorgeous variation of the wood to shine. Also included on the main level is a re-face to the living room fireplace, powder room, and upgrades to all walls and lighting. Upstairs, we created two critical retreats: a warm Mediterranean inspired bathroom for the client's mother, and the master bathroom. In the mother's bathroom, we covered the floors and a large accent wall with dramatic travertine tile in a bold Versailles pattern. We paired this highly traditional tile with sleek contemporary floating vanities and dark fixtures for contrast. The shower features a slab quartz base and thin profile glass door. In the master bath, we welcomed drama and explored space planning and material use adventurously. Keeping with the quiet monochromatic palette, we integrated all black and white into our bathroom concept. The floors are covered with large format graphic tiles in a deco pattern that reach through every part of the space. At the vanity area, high gloss white floating vanities offer separate space for his/her use. Tall linear LED fixtures provide ample lighting and illuminate another grid pattern backsplash that runs floor to ceiling. The show-stopping bathtub is a square steel soaker tub that nestles quietly between windows in the bathroom's far corner. We paired this tub with an unapologetic tub filler that is bold and large in scale. Next to the tub, an open shower is adorned with a full expanse of white grid subway tile, a slab quartz shower base, and sleek steel fixtures. This project was exciting and inspiring in its ability to push the boundaries of simplicity and quietude in color. When the owner of this petite c. 1910 cottage in Riverside, RI first considered purchasing it, he fell for its charming front façade and the stunning rear water views. But it needed work. The weather-worn, water-facing back of the house was in dire need of attention. The first-floor kitchen/living/dining areas were cramped. There was no first-floor bathroom, and the second-floor bathroom was a fright. Most surprisingly, there was no rear-facing deck off the kitchen or living areas to allow for outdoor living along the Providence River. In collaboration with the homeowner, KHS proposed a number of renovations and additions. The first priority was a new cantilevered rear deck off an expanded kitchen/dining area and reconstructed sunroom, which was brought up to the main floor level. The cantilever of the deck prevents the need for awkwardly tall supporting posts that could potentially be undermined by a future storm event or rising sea level. To gain more first-floor living space, KHS also proposed capturing the corner of the wrapping front porch as interior kitchen space in order to create a more generous open kitchen/dining/living area, while having minimal impact on how the cottage appears from the curb. Underutilized space in the existing mudroom was also reconfigured to contain a modest full bath and laundry closet. Upstairs, a new full bath was created in an addition between existing bedrooms. It can be accessed from both the master bedroom and the stair hall. Additional closets were added, too. New windows and doors, new heart pine flooring stained to resemble the patina of old pine flooring that remained upstairs, new tile and countertops, new cabinetry, new plumbing and lighting fixtures, as well as a new color palette complete the updated look. Upgraded insulation in areas exposed during the construction and augmented HVAC systems also greatly improved indoor comfort. Today, the cottage continues to charm while also accommodating modern amenities and features.

This home triggered a blast into a quartz geode vein which inspired a classy chic style interior and clever use of exterior materials. These include flat rusted siding to bring out the copper veins, Cedar Creek Cascade thin stone veneer speaks to the surrounding cliffs, Stucco with a finish of Moondust, and rough cedar fine line shiplap for a natural yet minimal siding accent. Its dramatic yet tasteful interiors, of exposed raw structural steel, Calacatta Classique Quartz waterfall countertops, hexagon tile designs, gold trim accents all the way down to the gold tile grout, reflects the Chic Colorado while providing cozy and intimate spaces throughout.

This custom-made concrete farmhouse sink was handcrafted for a minimalist master bath renovation in the heart of Topanga Canyon, CA. Designed with an emphasis on Wabi-Sabi principles, this piece balances a rugged, organic texture with the clean, sharp lines of Japandi architecture. The Design The basin features a deep, single-bowl integral design, hand-cast using high-performance GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete).

Before: The master bathroom was crowded, with a bulky outdated shower, minimal storage, and a shorter vanity which was inconvenient for them. After: The transformation created a luxurious and spacious retreat: Custom Shower: A new oversized shower was built, featuring a Signature Hardware Carmen 40" Linear Shower Drain in Matte Black. The shower floor was adorned with AZ Tile Pebble Mosaics in Ivory, enhancing both the look and feel of the space. AZ Tile Flash Ivory 3x12 tiles were chosen for the shower walls, creating a clean, bright environment. Vanity Area: The vanity area was upgraded with Sollid Designer Series cabinets in Corona Onyx - Clear Alder, providing ample storage and a sleek look. The cabinets were paired with MSI Quartz countertops in Calacatta Delios for a cohesive design. Miseno Huntington matte black cabinet handles were chosen to complete the look. Freestanding Bathtub: A freestanding bathtub was installed, complemented by Angela Harris Dunmore Savona 8x8 Green Polished tiles around the tub area. This setup offers a striking visual appeal and a perfect spot for relaxation. The remodel was completed on time and within budget, exceeding Susan and Eric’s expectations. Our structural engineering team designed beams and other members that meet the Los Angeles Building Code while staying within construction budget provided by the client.
