Not knowing what the future holds for these empty-nesters, they wanted trends that would carry forward in a possible house sale in their kitchen remodel. Keeping much of the cabinet layout the same and not taking the cabinets all the way to the ceiling, was a cost savings to this already large Kitchen that didn’t need any extra storage. Cabinet selection was from Wellborn’s Premier Line, choosing Maple in the Sonoma Series with the Glacier finish- combining the ever popular white look with a softer glaze to go with every trending style. Grounding the design while maintaining some continuity, the island cabinets were from the same line in Wellborn- however the finish was Sienna Charcoal. This pulled the space together and gave it a nice warm appeal. Not to mention wonderful counter space for multiple cooks. With a love for the Natural Elements of Granite, this homeowner’s choose 3cm Andino White Granite for the entire kitchen. Adding a focal point to the beautiful Wellborn Hood, the backsplash is brick veneer by “Brick-It”. Choosing the Vintage Styling with a Natural Gray mortar mix compliments the entire Kitchen and brings all the elements together. It certainly is a focal point to enjoy! New stainless steel appliances were supplied by the homeowner, with the exception of adding the beverage center to cabinets set for entertaining just right of the refrigerator. Wild View Farm includes a new “Forever home” (we deconstructed an existing house with a 90% landfill diversion rate), and enhancements to several working barns. The 80 acre site was an original homestead farm from the 1890’s. Both its buildings and soil had become severely degraded. The owners are working to holistically restore this property and make it a model of modern regenerative farming. They are planting hundreds of trees, re-introducing livestock and working with Dryland Agroecology Research and High Plains Permaculture to restore the soil. The -51 HERS rated home is not just energy-efficient - it’s a model of “Regenerative design”. The deep green house design included multiple challenges – foremost was how to create a Passive Solar design that also took full advantage of the massive views to the West. We solved it with an L shaped building that optimized passive and active solar strategies on the south face, then actively protected the western facade with a giant covered porch and tuned glazing. The home’s leading-edge energy package includes a Ground source heat pump, a large roof-mounted solar PV array, battery back-up, EV chargers, and Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV), Energy Star Appliances and windows, a robust foam insulation shell and LED lighting. We also endeavored to craft a modern day interpretation of the farmhouse typology, with a low-slung simple gable-roofed form that would feel like it’s always been there. The exterior material palette of limestone, cementitious stucco and heavy timber gives it a rich Colorado Modern Farmhouse feel. The 2024 Southern Living Idea House is a new build that fits perfectly into the lush countryside. Designer and architect Kirsten Schoettelkotte’s design was inspired by the historic farmsteads and traditional architectural styles of South Carolina’s Lowcountry. The home has a wide front porch, brick stairway, copper gutters, and a standalone carriage house. The house’s design blended the indoor and outdoor spaces to take full advantage of the surrounding natural environment. “[Nearly] every room in the house has a window, and that was intentional,” said Schoettelkotte. Multiple Marvin products from the Ultimate and Elevate collections were selected for the home. Their durability and customization ability were a perfect fit for the project. The client wanted a kitchen that created a warm and cozy feeling where family and friends would feel right at home. She sought a kitchen that was of the highest quality cabinetry and a designer that would really listen to her needs and wants. The Pewter glaze overtones on the cherry wood tie in with the distressed gray island; the Silestone Quartz Soapstone around the perimeter provides a neutral background, while the island has a more dramatic polished granite with cream, rose and brown tones to become a beautiful centerpiece. The cabinets are heavily detailed with beaded sides and backs, inset doors, chamfered corners wherever possible, toe valances and applied mouldings around the entire base to add a rich, handcrafted look. The heights of the cabinets vary to reduce uniformity, adding to the casual charm. An apron front sink also contributes to the country look. The desk is particularly fanciful with it’s mullion doors, French Country open shelves with beaded sides and back, curved and beaded valance and drawer with multiple drawerheads / applied molding. We also incorporated doors that come all the way to the counter to hide the usual home office clutter. The lower part of the desk includes many drawers of various sizes and even a special locking file drawer. The beautiful dark gray island boasts French Country open shelves with arched and beaded valances, a fluting detail on each corner of the cookbook shelves, toe details, lots of beadboard, and a variety of storage options for cooking utensils, pans, and serving dishes.

Featuring rock walls and fireplaces with decorative wrought iron doors, stained wood trusses and hand scraped beams. Rustic designs give a warm lodge feel to these large ski resort homes and cattle ranches. Pine plank or slate and stone flooring with custom old world wrought iron lighting, leather furniture and handmade, scraped wood dining tables give a warmth to the hard use of these homes, some of which are on working farms and orchards. Antique and new custom upholstery, covered in velvet with deep rich tones and hand knotted rugs in the bedrooms give a softness and warmth so comfortable and livable. In the kitchen, range hoods provide beautiful points of interest, from hammered copper, steel, and wood. The family wanted a rustic/Italian feel that still had an updated/modern look to it. They also wanted to keep with the traditional style of their home and décor. Tumbled travertine backsplash added a rustic feel to the kitchen, but we kept the design pretty clean and simple for a more timeless look. We added some Sonoma tantrum glass detail behind the cooktop and behind the built-ins for a pop of color that played off the granite. For the cabinetry, we used Dura Supreme. A black distressed island, and an ivory paint w/ espresso glaze on the perimeter. The creamy St. Cecilia countertops added warmth and pulled the white and black cabinetry together, and added plenty of extra seating. The charming oil rubbed bronze hardware and lighting fixtures really play nicely off the black island. The new medium toned oak hardwood flooring throughout the entire house gives it a very warm and inviting feel. The new layout provides them plenty of space for multiple cooks so they’re family can all relax and be together in the space.

Each dwelling within this compound contained multiple fireplaces, hand waxed wood paneling, and troweled glazed plaster walls that reflected the clear crystalline light of day and the warm reflection of the hearths by night.

In true Arts & Crafts style, this kitchen and mudroom project is packed with details of custom craftsmanship, architectural elements and hidden conveniences that make it more than meets-the-eye. For the designer, the goal was to create a seamless flow between the kitchen, mudroom and dining areas to create a home meant for gathering children and grandchildren. Inspired by the family’s love for baking, their curated collectibles and the stained-glass artwork they brought with them from Colorado, the homeowners choose Weston Recessed with a Vintage Baltic Sea finish for their cabinetry. Warm materials, layered lighting, and personal touches help the kitchen feel inviting, while thoughtfully placed work zones allow multiple people to be in the space without it feeling crowded. This includes a dedicated baker’s zone anchoring the left side of the kitchen, complete with an integrated mixer cabinet and adjacent oven storage; and a tea center with integrated cabinet lighting concealed behind pocket doors that lights up when the doors are open. Every cabinet was considered with purpose – specialized storage features like a swing out spice cabinet, cleaning supply storage cabinet, and thoughtful adjustments for the homeowners’ height including a pull-out step stool, making it easier to reach cabinets above. Wood-Mode’s precision craftsmanship and quality are on display, with attention to detail seen in the smooth finish of the custom range hood finished in Driftwood with Espresso glaze on maple. Entering the home through a floor-to-ceiling full light pivoting front door provides a sense of grandeur that continues through the home with immediate sightlines through the 16-foot wide sliding door at the opposite wall. The distinct black window frames provide a sleek modern aesthetic while providing European performance standards. The Glo A5h Series with double-pane glazing outperforms most North American triple pane windows due to high performance spacers, low iron glass, a larger continuous thermal break, and multiple air seals. By going double-pane the homeowners have been able to realize tremendous efficiency and cost effective durability while maintaining the clean architectural lines of the home design. The selection of our hidden sash option further cements the modern design by providing a seamless aesthetic on the exterior between fixed and operable windows.
