A truly contemporary kitchen that stays true to the integrity of the ranch style home, with both sleek and natural elements. Dark brown Quarter-Sawn oak cabinets were used on the perimeter and the island, while wired gloss cabinets were used for the walls and tall cabinets. A large island houses a microwave drawer, dishwasher drawers and peg boards in deep drawers for plate organization. A breakfast bar with waterfall edges in Neolith material adds a striking focal point to the large space. Refrigerator panels cover the doors of the Sub Zero refrigerator and freezer to fully integrate the panels into the design. Human beings have a fundamental need to be connected to nature. Often our built environments disconnect us from natural elements. A drab room with no windows and artificial lighting can make us feel bored, tired, even depressed. This can make a basement remodel very challenging. Biophilic design integrates natural elements into our architecture and interiors. The practice of Biophilic design has been found to improve our well being. We used the wall mural to introduce elements of nature and completely transformed the space.

In keeping with the idea that there was to be no unused space, the team chose to wrap the staircase in walls of windows that look out onto the Live Oak canopies and provide for gorgeous views from every turn. The true farmhouse kitchen. Mixing bold traditional colours, natural elements, shiplap and wooden beamed ceiling details, all make for the perfectly crafted farmhouse. Layering in a traditional farm house sink, and an industrial inspired metal hood fan adds charm and a curated feel to this traditional space.
