Having successfully designed the then bachelor’s penthouse residence at the Waldorf Astoria, Kadlec Architecture + Design was retained to combine 2 units into a full floor residence in the historic Palmolive building in Chicago. The couple was recently married and have five older kids between them all in their 20s. She has 2 girls and he has 3 boys (Think Brady bunch). Nate Berkus and Associates was the interior design firm, who is based in Chicago as well, so it was a fun collaborative process. Details: -Brass inlay in natural oak herringbone floors running the length of the hallway, which joins in the rotunda. -Bronze metal and glass doors bring natural light into the interior of the residence and main hallway as well as highlight dramatic city and lake views. -Billiards room is paneled in walnut with navy suede walls. The Karoistanbul tiles are entirely handmade and natural. They are composed of white marble powder, high quality cement, marble or granite granulates natural colorants and pure silica sand, under a high pressure. The encaustic process employed in their creation has rendered these tiles extremely durable and long lasting. They can be used on the walls and floors, on interior or exterior surfaces. Users have the opportunity to choose the color of the tiles from the color range.

The Quarry Mill's Tuscan Antique real thin stone veneer assists in giving this residential gate an old-world castle feel. Tuscan Antique is a beautiful tumbled natural limestone veneer with a range of mostly gold tones. There are a few grey pieces as well as some light brown pieces in the mix. The tumbling process softens the edges and makes for a smoother texture. Although our display shows a raked mortar joint for consistency, Tuscan Antique lends itself to the flush or overgrout techniques of old-world architecture. Using a flush or overgrout technique takes you back to the times when stone was used structurally in the construction process. This is the perfect stone if your goal is to replicate a classic Italian villa.

Stylish brewery owners with airline miles that match George Clooney’s decided to hire Regan Baker Design to transform their beloved Duboce Park second home into an organic modern oasis reflecting their modern aesthetic and sustainable, green conscience lifestyle. From hops to floors, we worked extensively with our design savvy clients to provide a new footprint for their kitchen, dining and living room area, redesigned three bathrooms, reconfigured and designed the master suite, and replaced an existing spiral staircase with a new modern, steel staircase. We collaborated with an architect to expedite the permit process, as well as hired a structural engineer to help with the new loads from removing the stairs and load bearing walls in the kitchen and Master bedroom. We also used LED light fixtures, FSC certified cabinetry and low VOC paint finishes. Natural stone swimming pool coping and patio built by Gappsi in Huntington NY with Scogli di Mare limestone; selected from the Gappsi natural stone collection. The sizes of the Scogli di Mare pavers are randomly mixed in rectangular and square sizes; the Scogli di Mare texture finish is flames and tumbled. The pavers surface consist of natural sea shell fossils exposed by the finishing process. The sealing process begins with pressure washing the entire patio, removing all dirt/debris from the stone surface and in between the joints. Next, Nexgel Techniseal synthetic sand is applied in between the pavers joints and vibrated with a mechanical plate compactor. The plate compactor has rubber rollers to prevent the stones from cracking or scratching. This vibrating process allows the sand to fall in between the joints and density. Then, we clean the pavers with brooms and landscape blowers, to clean the excess sand from the pavers surface and to evenly spread the sand in between the pavers joints. The next step is to wash the pavers by misting water to penetrate the synthetic sand into the paver joints all the way down below the pavers. The sand and water activate a chemical reaction of the pollen that's in the sand to cause the sand to harden. Finally, the application of the sealer, two parts components urethane dealer, specially formulated for Gappsi, is applied to the pavers surface and the sand joints to prevent stones from staining, extend their life cycle and further enhance their texture, color, and surface.
