I first saw Venetian plaster applied to the walls of my hotel in Florence. I was so taken with the beauty and depth of it, I wanted to reproduce that beautiful glow in this powder room. At that time, Venetian plaster was not easy to obtain in Dallas or commonly used. So, I worked with the painter in using a substitute material, gray conversion varnish, to achieve the desired glow and color depth.

The couple has a lifelong love of Arts and Crafts and Modernism, and are the co-founders of PrairieMod, an online retailer that offers timeless modern lifestyle through American made, handcrafted, and exclusively designed products. So, having such a design savvy client was super exciting for us, especially since the couple had many unique pieces of pottery and furniture to provide inspiration for the design. The condo is a large, sunny top floor unit, with a large open feel. The existing kitchen was a peninsula which housed the sink, and they wanted to change that out to an island, relocating the new sink there as well. This can sometimes be tricky with all the plumbing for the building potentially running up through one stack. After consulting with our contractor team, it was determined that our plan would likely work and after confirmation at demo, we pushed on. The new kitchen is a simple L-shaped space, featuring several storage devices for trash, trays dividers and roll out shelving. To keep the budget in check, we used semi-custom cabinetry, but added custom details including a shiplap hood with white oak detail that plays off the oak “X” endcaps at the island, as well as some of the couple’s existing white oak furniture. We also mixed metals with gold hardware and plumbing and matte black lighting that plays well with the unique black herringbone backsplash and metal barstools. New weathered oak flooring throughout the unit provides a nice soft backdrop for all the updates. We wanted to take the cabinets to the ceiling to obtain as much storage as possible, but an angled soffit on two of the walls provided a bit of a challenge. We asked our carpenter to field modify a few of the wall cabinets where necessary and now the space is truly custom. Part of the project also included a new fireplace design including a custom mantle that houses a built-in sound bar and a Panasonic Frame TV, that doubles as hanging artwork when not in use. The TV is mounted flush to the wall, and there are different finishes for the frame available. The TV can display works of art or family photos while not in use. We repeated the black herringbone tile for the fireplace surround here and installed bookshelves on either side for storage and media components. This stunning master bathroom started with a creative reconfiguration of space, but it’s the wall of shimmering blue dimensional tile that really makes this a “statement” bathroom. The homeowners’, parents of two boys, wanted to add a master bedroom and bath onto the main floor of their classic mid-century home. Their objective was to be close to their kids’ rooms, but still have a quiet and private retreat. To obtain space for the master suite, the construction was designed to add onto the rear of their home. This was done by expanding the interior footprint into their existing outside corner covered patio. To create a sizeable suite, we also utilized the current interior footprint of their existing laundry room, adjacent to the patio. The design also required rebuilding the exterior walls of the kitchen nook which was adjacent to the back porch. Our clients rounded out the updated rear home design by installing all new windows along the back wall of their living and dining rooms. Once the structure was formed, our design team worked with the homeowners to fill in the space with luxurious elements to form their desired retreat with universal design in mind. The selections were intentional, mixing modern-day comfort and amenities with 1955 architecture. The shower was planned to be accessible and easy to use at the couple ages in place. Features include a curb-less, walk-in shower with a wide shower door. We also installed two shower fixtures, a handheld unit and showerhead. To brighten the room without sacrificing privacy, a clearstory window was installed high in the shower and the room is topped off with a skylight. For ultimate comfort, heated floors were installed below the silvery gray wood-plank floor tiles which run throughout the entire room and into the shower! Additional features include custom cabinetry in rich walnut with horizontal grain and white quartz countertops. In the shower, oversized white subway tiles surround a mermaid-like soft-blue tile niche, and at the vanity the mirrors are surrounded by boomerang-shaped ultra-glossy marine blue tiles. These create a dramatic focal point. Serene and spectacular.

We book-matched the wood by cutting thick 8/4'' material with the bandsaw to obtain the mirroring of woodgrains & character. This curly Koa wood makes unique designs such as heart shapes and patterns that are pleasing to view. We numbered and cataloged each piece of wood. Then arranged them in every possible configuration to find the most pleasing design. The finished product was a work of Natural Art.

The direction was to obtain a contemporary look but to preserve the warmth of a ranch home. The perfect combination of modern colors such as grays and whites blend and work perfectly together with the abundant amount of wood tones in this design. The open kitchen is separated from the dining area with a large 10' peninsula with a waterfall finish detail. The bamboo flooring is continues throughout the house for a combining effect, tying together all the different spaces of the house. All the finish details and hardware are honed gold finish, gold tones compliment the wooden materials perfectly.

This Chillcoots custom home overlooking the Fraser Valley is located in Rendezvous, near Winter Park, Colorado. The views looking west span from Byers Peak to Winter Park Resort ski area. Great care was taken into consideration for the exterior of this home, utilizing true reclaimed exterior materials obtained from a ranch and its barns in southwestern Colorado. To accent the reclaimed wood, we incorporated mixed materials such as rusted corrugated siding and a metal roof. The interior of the home is truly designed to be family-friendly.

This was a monumental achievement and was made possible by our timely collaboration with the client and the organizational skills of our gifted project manager, Vittorio Castelli. The project pictures clearly reflect the attention to detail and careful material selection that went into the building of this lovely home. Our client had specific ideas about what she wanted to use for the many finished services pictured in this section. We collaborated with her in the pre-production phase, visiting many local retailers and suppliers in an effort to obtain exactly the look that she wanted. The sculpted hardwood floors, custom cabinetry, countertops, tile surfaces, and lighting clearly demonstrate her well-considered choices.
