The design approach focused on updating the kitchen while honoring the home’s original character. Rather than introducing a completely different aesthetic, the goal was to reinterpret the existing warmth, texture, and craftsmanship in a fresh way. A key decision was selecting cabinetry that could reflect the richness of the original bamboo. This led to a custom walnut finish that felt authentic to the home yet elevated in its execution. Eclectic materials were thoughtfully layered to create interest and personality, but carefully balanced so the space felt curated, cohesive, and enduring. The updated design includes slate flooring, Plato Cabinetry in a custom walnut finish, and 3 cm soapstone countertops that add depth and natural character. High-performance Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances—including a Sub-Zero refrigerator and beverage center, along with a Wolf speed oven and hood—bring modern functionality to this artfully composed space.

We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to help an older couple in our local community. They approached us with a project that they thought would be impossible. Turn a 6x6 first floor pantry into a fully functioning bathroom. Normally this space limitation would not be a problem but the plumbing presented a difficulty that already scared away 2 other contractors. We were able to overcome this obstacle with the help of our experienced staff who keep up to date on the newest devices and products in the remodeling industry. We had a very enjoyable experience designing and remodeling this room. Even with the small space limitations we believe we came up with a very unique and rustic feel for their 1890's farm house. I must end on all the custom wood work that our employees made for this project. From the custom, two-sided, door to the little, wooden, wall shelf we made all of the wooden pieces you see in this project and most of them were unique creations specifically for this job.

We reconfigured this kitchen - removing a wall - to allow for a large island for entertaining. With two young children, durability was key. We chose Brownstone stools customized with performance fabric on the back to introduce a bit of pattern and wipeable faux leather seats. The backsplash over range is a single slab of Eureka Danby from Vermont's Dorsett Mountain, which wipes down easily. The Lostine pendants and sconces introduce a smidge of midcentury vibes. The tongue and groove backsplash and soapstone counters provide a quaint farmhouse feel; and we chose the fabric for the roman shade from a Parisian fabric house, Antoinette Poisson, which specializes in 18th century pattern designs, to add a bit of history.

New Twist on Farmhouse Chic Project Details Designer: Amy Van Wie Cabinetry: Brookhaven Framed Cabinetry Wood: Maple Finishes: Perimeter – Antique White; Island – Matte Twilight Door: Kingston Recessed Inset Countertop: Perimeter – Soapstone; Island – Walnut Awards 2016 Saratoga Showcase of Homes For this stunning Showcase Home, we worked to achieve a classic farmhouse look with some new and interesting twists. To enhance a clean aesthetic, we customized the cabinet boxes to avoid any distracting seams, common with inset kitchens. But at the same time, we used decorative feet on the end cabinets and bead board accents to achieve that furniture look common in historic farmhouses. Additional nods to the farmhouse schematic include mullion glass doors, an apron front sink, beveled subway tile, turn latch knobs and bin pulls all in oiled rubbed bronze and a magnificent mushroom wood and copper custom hood.

With 9 foot ceilings, special height cabinet panels were designed at 45″. The maple cabinetry from Brookhaven was installed along the perimeter of the space and finished in white lace with Fremont Recessed doors. To mix and match different styles and finishes, the island and hutch were designed in knotty cherry, with Fremont raised doors and matte bistro finish. Barroca Soapstone tops off the kitchen and island cabinets and a 3cm thick sheet of Bianco Carrera Marble tops off the hutch. The finishing touches were the details including oil rubbed bronze bin pulls and knobs, split panel doors with glass walls along the range wall and custom panels to cover the refrigerator. For the hutch, mullion glass doors and bead board accents with matching wood knobs and corbels finished the design.
