This beautiful new construction craftsman-style home had the typical builder's grade front porch with wood deck board flooring and painted wood steps. Also, there was a large unpainted wood board across the bottom front, and an opening remained that was large enough to be used as a crawl space underneath the porch which quickly became home to unwanted critters. In order to beautify this space, we removed the wood deck boards and installed the proper floor joists. Atop the joists, we also added a permeable paver system. This is very important as this system not only serves as necessary support for the natural stone pavers but would also firmly hold the sand being used as grout between the pavers. In addition, we installed matching brick across the bottom front of the porch to fill in the crawl space and painted the wood board to match hand rails and columns. Next, we replaced the original wood steps by building new concrete steps faced with matching brick and topped with natural stone pavers. Finally, we added new hand rails and cemented the posts on top of the steps for added stability. WOW...not only was the outcome a gorgeous transformation but the front porch overall is now much more sturdy and safe!

When envisioning the Hygeia Lot 3 single family residential home in Encinitas, California, Lindsay and Rory Brown of The Brown Studio sought to weave unique architectural details throughout the minimalist design scheme. To add depth to the overall look and feel of the space, and to complement the home’s existing ‘hard’ angles, the team selected Banker Wire’s IPZ-25 woven wire mesh. Specified in a stainless steel and brass finish, the wire mesh was utilized to create the interior stairway railing, which functions as the focal point of the lower lounge room area. Adding an elegant touchpoint to the space, the wire mesh reiterates the angular look and feel while providing much-needed depth through the stainless steel and brass finish. Similarly, for the project-at-large, the design team favored a seamless indoor/outdoor design scheme, with the Banker Wire mesh application helping to achieve this; the exterior of the home features Gabion rock walls, created using an enclosing wire structure to secure the rocks into a wall formation. By adding the wire mesh interior stairway railing, the design team was able to create an indoor/outdoor connection through highlighting these unique wire touchpoints. “The Hygeia Lot 3 house is full of unique angles and architectural details—it’s two levels of playful design and carefully crafted architectural details,” says Loryn Cook, Designer, The Brown Studio. “We wanted to use materials that reflect this line of thinking, and Banker Wire’s architectural mesh provided the stability and breathability we were after.” The simple, lightweight material of the IPZ-25 wire mesh pattern—which has a 54% open area—utilizes a mixture of stainless steel to achieve balanced sturdiness; when mixed with the copper-based alloy of brass, a beautiful contrast occurs, while the team’s custom system holds the wire in place. Through utilizing different wire diameters for the warp and shute—achieving balanced stiffness in both directions—the intercrimp surface gives the material a high degree of reflective energy. As a result, the mesh pattern imitates an array of colors that changes as the viewer moves throughout the space. “For this project, we wanted a material that was permeable enough to see through, but detailed enough to catch the eye,” adds Cook. “IPZ-25 provides a myriad of different textures and colors, depending on the perspective from which it is viewed from—we love it specifically for this effect.” In regards to the fabrication process, Robert Richter, Owner of Flur Metals, notes that although it was initially a challenge, this project is proof that the outcome is well worth it. “We typically utilize more rigid mesh types for this kind of application, but because of how unique IPZ-25 is, The Brown Studio came to us asking if we could make it work,” says Richter. “We did not shy away from the challenge; this project was exciting, as we were able to utilize such a delicate, beautiful mesh, but a non-traditional way. Once one side was ‘tac’d in,’ we pulled it tight, and ‘tac’d’ the other side to the frame. Then, the border was welded to another frame that sandwiched the mesh in place,” adds Richter. “This application is proof that it can be done! It’s still one of my favorite projects we have ever worked on.”

After about a decade of weathering on this Roswell, GA deck, the homeowners decided it was time for some upgrades. We resurfaced the deck using beautiful Timbertech products. Some of the specifics include Timbertech PVC Vintage Series decking in the color Weathered Teak, composite top cap in the color Mocha, black aluminum balusters, Oasis Under Deck Ceiling System, and a stain on the deck and roof support posts using Sherwin Williams Super Deck. The outcome is gorgeous.

What a fun project and what a beautiful home! This young growing family wanted high quality new cabinets throughout their new-build in Hinkley, MN. They had six spaces in the home that needed cabinetry and enlisted us here at The Cabinet Store to help! Not only did we help them with the design (much of it done efficiently long distance), but we were able to install all six rooms in one day! The homeowners wanted a transitional interior style for their home, a mix of modern and traditional. They wanted the overall look to be clean, contemporary, and warm. A mix of wood and painted cabinetry was the perfect fit to give off this polished, but cozy feel throughout the home. Selecting Showplace Wood’s Breckenridge door style throughout the whole home, and alternating the color tones (Soft Cream with Walnut glaze for some rooms and Cherry wood stained Coffee in other rooms), they got just what they wanted. Plus we custom made matching pieces for various rooms in our very own custom cabinetry shop to match the Showplace cabinets! This week we’re going to feature photos of the kitchen cabinetry & the living room shelving / entertainment center. See the fabulous outcome below! The kitchen features a fun mix of the cream color cabinets on the top and bottom of the outer edges and the coffee toned ones on the island. And the entertainment center / shelving shown in the living room was custom made here at The Cabinet Store to match the cabinets of the kitchen island. Practical and beautiful!

Our clients wanted a bigger kitchen to entertain family and friends. They also wanted to spend time outdoors, therefore our designer incorporated a screen porch to the design adjacent to the kitchen area. Natural light was another important request on their wish list, so our designer added large windows with a bench for sitting area which created a relaxing atmosphere in the room. Our client’s last request was to have a small workshop to work on his custom furniture, we extended the basement along with the first floor which provided enough room to work on. Our clients were extremely satisfied with the project outcome. They couldn’t thank us enough about the great experience they had working with us.

Emma Gerancher from Reico Kitchen & Bath in Charlottesville, VA, partnered with Luis Dorta of LED Construction to design a transitional kitchen featuring Masterpiece cabinetry. The kitchen includes the Barton door style in a Cottage finish for the perimeter and a custom Sherwin-Williams Mount Etna painted finish for the island. The space also features MSI W Calacatta Safyra countertops, along with a Frigidaire canopy hood and microwave. The client shared, “Gutting our old kitchen to reconfigure the space for better flow, workspace, and storage was a challenge. Emma listened to my needs and offered helpful tips and options, which made the process work. The layout followed the workflow, and my habits and style guided the final details. Reico gave me the options and confidence to trust the process, and the outcome is seamless and beautiful.” Emma explained, “This kitchen is one of my favorites. The home’s façade features several contemporary accents that, combined, create an eye-catching grand entrance. I love to add an organic element to the exterior and the mahogany wood slats fulfill this component. They add a warmth that some contemporary homes are lacking. The experts at Four Seasons Outdoor Living completed my vision with their beautiful landscaping. Several patches of monkey grass line the large, rectangular concrete blocks that lead right up to the 8-foot high door. LBJ Construction brought my vision of a large, stunning doorway to life. The home originally had a standard 6’ 8” door. We removed the outdated window shutters for a more polished appearance. New windows and a brand new roof not only add to the curb appeal, but make for a much more energy efficient home in the heat of the Houston summer. I truly enjoyed working with these amazing professionals. This was an extremely fun project with a phenomenal outcome.

Confident in their desire to bid farewell to a rarely used formal dining room, these homeowners let us design and build a large and highly functional kitchen using the space previously occupied by the formal dining room and kitchen. Careful consideration was taken to blend the new space with the old. The new white perimeter gives the kitchen a fresh and clean look while the blue island adds a pop of color and personality. The combination of colors creates a harmonious balance that is both inviting and stylish. It's amazing how a simple color change can completely transform a space and make it feel brand new. Every plant was carefully chosen for color and fragrance. The final outcome was a beautiful amalgamation of rugged rock walls, a field of Lavender, a rose garden, a Petanque Court, and a hedge of Pittosporum and Osmanthus. Other plants include Olive trees, a Melaleuca tree, vines of Burmese Honeysuckle and Cup of Gold, and a grouping of Kangaroo Paw.

The featured table was crafted from two live edge spalted Poplar slabs. This stunning table is 7'6" in length and ranges in width from 43" to 39". The slabs were meticulously planed, sanded, joined, oiled and finished with eight coats of a water base urethane. WEngineer Design offers Live Edge Dining Tables made to fit your desired outcome. Our homeowner had worked with us in the past and asked us to design and renovate their 1980’s style master bathroom and closet into a modern oasis with a more functional layout. The original layout was chopped up and an inefficient use of space. Keeping the windows where they were, we simply swapped the vanity and the tub, and created an enclosed stool room. The shower was redesigned utilizing a gorgeous tile accent wall which was also utilized on the tub wall of the bathroom. A beautiful free-standing tub with modern tub filler were used to modernize the space and added a stunning focal point in the room. Two custom tall medicine cabinets were built to match the vanity and the closet cabinets for additional storage in the space with glass doors. The closet space was designed to match the bathroom cabinetry and provide closed storage without feeling narrow or enclosed. The outcome is a striking modern master suite that is not only functional but captures our homeowners’ great style.
