The prior owner lived there from 1940s until she died at age of 98! The old home had loads of character and charm but was in pretty bad condition and desperately needed updates. The clients purchased the home a few years ago and did some work before they moved in (roof, HVAC, electrical) but decided to live in the house for a 6 months or so before embarking on the next renovation phase. I had worked with the clients previously on the wife's office space and a few projects in a previous home including the nursery design for their first child so they reached out when they were ready to start thinking about the interior renovations. The goal was to respect and enhance the historic architecture of the home but make the spaces more functional for this couple with two small kids. Clients were open to color and some more bold/unexpected design choices. The design style is updated traditional with some eclectic elements. An early design decision was to incorporate a dark colored french range which would be the focal point of the kitchen and to do dark high gloss lacquered cabinets in the adjacent coffee bar, and we ultimately went with dark green.

An entry door that collided with the toilet and a tub enclosure that was unsightly were just the beginning of the issues the homeowner had with this bathroom. Besides needing to update the plumbing fixtures in this 1930’s home, a new layout was in order. The existing bathtub was very narrow, so finding a 27-1/2 wide fixture was one of our biggest challenges. The homeowner’s requested the style of the new bathroom to be in keeping with the age of this traditional home. By relocating the toilet to the other side of the room and tucking it behind the tub, the entry door can now fully open, plus the half wall acts as a privacy barrier. The old pedestal sink was replaced with a new large furniture style vanity with a beautiful marble counter top. Much needed lighting was added to the room, including two wall sconces on each side of the tilting mirror. The old windows were replaced and have an etched design on the glass to give privacy to the room without having to add a window treatment. A new clear glass shower surround allows for more natural light to enter the tub area, so bathing no longer feels like you are in a cave. A shampoo niche is tucked in the corner where soaps and hair care products are easily accessed when showering. The porcelain tile on the floor and shower walls mimics the look of travertine without the higher price of a natural stone. This bathroom still has its traditional charm, but with all the updated luxuries of a new bathroom.

Inspiration for a mid-sized country porcelain tile and multicolored floor powder room remodel in Minneapolis with multicolored walls

This was a gut remodel of a 1950’s 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 1200-square-foot home. The main house was composed of two bedrooms with one bathroom, and a separate studio unit with a full bathroom was located in the backyard. The new owners, a family of 4, wanted to remove the studio unit and increase the square footage of the main house to include a new master suite, family room, and powder room while leaving enough space for the possible addition of a pool in the backyard down the road. We also expanded the kitchen and remodeled the kids’ shared bathroom. White Sands advised during the architectural stage of the project to perfect the layout and ensure enough space was carved out for the new kitchen, family room, and master bedroom. We designed a modified galley kitchen with a large eat-in island in the center. Custom cabinetry was key in making the layout work. To provide ample storage, we created a European-style larder pantry, which is flanked by full-height glass hutches and appliance garages to keep countertop gadgets concealed. The family room is anchored by a new fireplace, complete with custom built-ins flanking each side. The client’s goal for the overall aesthetic is very simple, classic coastal cottage. They wanted cutesy charm. They did not want anything fussy or fancy, requesting selections to be pared down and approachable. All tile and counter finishes selected were in timeless shapes and color palettes. We brought in color and personality with the accessories- cabinet hardware, mirrors, wallcoverings, and styling accessories.

A farmhouse coastal styled home located in the charming neighborhood of Pflugerville. We merged our client's love of the beach with rustic elements which represent their Texas lifestyle. The result is a laid-back interior adorned with distressed woods, light sea blues, and beach-themed decor. We kept the furnishings tailored and contemporary with some heavier case goods- showcasing a touch of traditional. Our design even includes a separate hangout space for the teenagers and a cozy media for everyone to enjoy! The overall design is chic yet welcoming, perfect for this energetic young family. Photo by Eric Roth A traditional home in Beacon Hill, Boston, is completely gutted and rehabbed, yet still retains its old-world charm. Two twin daughters share this luxurious bathroom, complete with a double-sink vanity, and concealed pull-out stepstools for shorter legs.

Our Carmel design-build studio planned a beautiful open-concept layout for this home with a lovely kitchen, adjoining dining area, and a spacious and comfortable living space. We chose a classic blue and white palette in the kitchen, used high-quality appliances, and added plenty of storage spaces to make it a functional, hardworking kitchen. In the adjoining dining area, we added a round table with elegant chairs. The spacious living room comes alive with comfortable furniture and furnishings with fun patterns and textures. A stunning fireplace clad in a natural stone finish creates visual interest. After! The newly renovated bathroom features a totally open space with a frameless shower enclosure, white subway tile and a marbletile threshold. The frameless glass shower is the only space delineator in the formerly L-shaped bathroom and allows natural light to flood the room. Note the marble mosaic tile floor and elongated shampoo niche in the shower. A charming crystal ceiling mount fixture completes the design aesthetic.

Our St. Pete studio designed this stunning pied-à-terre for a couple looking for a luxurious retreat in the city. Our studio went all out with colors, textures, and materials that evoke five-star luxury and comfort in keeping with their request for a resort-like home with modern amenities. In the vestibule that the elevator opens to, we used a stylish black and beige palm leaf patterned wallpaper that evokes the joys of Gulf Coast living. In the adjoining foyer, we used stylish wainscoting to create depth and personality to the space, continuing the millwork into the dining area. We added bold emerald green velvet chairs in the dining room, giving them a charming appeal. A stunning chandelier creates a sharp focal point, and an artistic fawn sculpture makes for a great conversation starter around the dining table. We ensured that the elegant green tone continued into the stunning kitchen and cozy breakfast nook through the beautiful kitchen island and furnishings. In the powder room, too, we went with a stylish black and white wallpaper and green vanity, which adds elegance and luxe to the space. This is easily one of the most quaint, farmhouse styled bathrooms we've yet to come across. From the checkered wallpaper to the barn-styled door vanity, it is just beyond charming!

Set in the dining room of our home BannockBurn 1878 this tablescape was part of my Holiday style collaboration with Bradshaws ( located in Stratford Ontario.) We used many products from their wonderful shop to create a festive holiday table. Starting with a whimsical striped table runner in paper and then adding layers of texture and interest with silver placemats, Le Crucet dinnerware, Waterford crystal, candleholders and charming silver trees we set the stage for making memories.

For those who enjoy the finer things in life, this home office has an old world feel with clean lines that offers a beautiful modern twist to this classic beauty. The bold wallpaper and fabric bulletin board create a striking focal point for the semi-custom desk and hutch. The contrasting finishes provide an inviting, yet dramatic air, welcoming the distinguished person who has stories to share of grand experiences and travel. Details such as the federal leg and heavier applied moldings on the doors imbed the feel of fine furniture into the cabinetry. But beyond style, this room includes the unique Desk Multi-Storage Drawer Cabinet. This cabinet has three drawers, each with a roll-out tray. The roll-out trays in the two bottom drawers are great for storing papers, while the top drawer's roll-out tray has dividers to keep pens and other smaller items in order. The Antiquity glass with Traditional mullion enables you to showcase your treasures, while the wood inserts, also with Traditional mullions, provide a decorative way to hide contents, like folders and small office equipment. The bookcase also offers both open and closed storage. The crown molding is shown in the same finish as the wall cabinets and adds to the charm of the room.

[Our Clients] We were so excited to help these new homeowners re-envision their split-level diamond in the rough. There was so much potential in those walls, and we couldn’t wait to delve in and start transforming spaces. Our primary goal was to re-imagine the main level of the home and create an open flow between the space. So, we started by converting the existing single car garage into their living room (complete with a new fireplace) and opening up the kitchen to the rest of the level. [Kitchen] The original kitchen had been on the small side and cut-off from the rest of the home, but after we removed the coat closet, this kitchen opened up beautifully. Our plan was to create an open and light filled kitchen with a design that translated well to the other spaces in this home, and a layout that offered plenty of space for multiple cooks. We utilized clean white cabinets around the perimeter of the kitchen and popped the island with a spunky shade of blue. To add a real element of fun, we jazzed it up with the colorful escher tile at the backsplash and brought in accents of brass in the hardware and light fixtures to tie it all together. Through out this home we brought in warm wood accents and the kitchen was no exception, with its custom floating shelves and graceful waterfall butcher block counter at the island. [Dining Room] The dining room had once been the home’s living room, but we had other plans in mind. With its dramatic vaulted ceiling and new custom steel railing, this room was just screaming for a dramatic light fixture and a large table to welcome one-and-all. [Living Room] We converted the original garage into a lovely little living room with a cozy fireplace. There is plenty of new storage in this space (that ties in with the kitchen finishes), but the real gem is the reading nook with two of the most comfortable armchairs you’ve ever sat in. [Master Suite] This home didn’t originally have a master suite, so we decided to convert one of the bedrooms and create a charming suite that you’d never want to leave. The master bathroom aesthetic quickly became all about the textures. With a sultry black hex on the floor and a dimensional geometric tile on the walls we set the stage for a calm space. The warm walnut vanity and touches of brass cozy up the space and relate with the feel of the rest of the home. We continued the warm wood touches into the master bedroom, but went for a rich accent wall that elevated the sophistication level and sets this space apart. [Hall Bathroom] The floor tile in this bathroom still makes our hearts skip a beat. We designed the rest of the space to be a clean and bright white, and really let the lovely blue of the floor tile pop. The walnut vanity cabinet (complete with hairpin legs) adds a lovely level of warmth to this bathroom, and the black and brass accents add the sophisticated touch we were looking for. [Office] We loved the original built-ins in this space, and knew they needed to always be a part of this house, but these 60-year-old beauties definitely needed a little help. We cleaned up the cabinets and brass hardware, switched out the formica counter for a new quartz top, and painted wall a cheery accent color to liven it up a bit. And voila! We have an office that is the envy of the neighborhood.
