This garden started from an old vegetable garden tucked into an old estate property. The only element that remained was the privot hedge. My client wished to have a perennial garden that would be in a formal setting. So an axial line was

A overflowing urn adds focus and a surprising touch of civilization within this naturalistic planting of perennials and evergreens. The fountain is a "disappearing" type that has a hidden basin in the ground, so it easily recirculates without having a surrounding pool. Design and installation by Merrifield Garden Center.

Notable decor elements include: vintage mid-century modern wood cabinet with stone top, vintage brass and lucite giant leaf sculpture from Caviar 20, Lee Jofa Mediterranea wallpaper in white, Studio Four NYC Capri wool rug in blue and lavender, curved chair upholstered in Perennials Very Terry fabric in french lilac, vintage metal coffee table with a glass top and mid-century modern stacking triangle side tables.

Cindy Creps of Meadow Ridge Perennials and Cut Flowers designed a bridal bouquet for an August 2019 ceremony. All of the flowers are from her zone 4 flower farm in western Maine, with the obvious exception of the tropical blooms of Protea. Although our policy is to only use flowers grown on our farm we do make certain exceptions. The groom's family lives in South Africa and this was a wonderful way to welcome them to Maine! Flowers used are sunflowers, 2 varieties of lisianthus, chocolate lace flower, feverfew, monarda lambarda, with baptisia and basil foliages. (c) Meadow Ridge Perennials

Our goal - create bold, massed groupings of perennials in key locations while having looser, natural combinations in other areas. The existing wood and stone lamp post then stands on its own visually.

With a lengthy list of ideas about how to transform their backyard, the clients were excited to see what we could do. Existing features on site needed to be updated and in-cooperated within the design. The view from each angle of the property was already outstanding and we didn't want the design to feel out of place. We had to make the grade changes work to our advantage, each separate space had to have a purpose. The client wanted to use the property for charity events, so a large flat turf area was constructed at the back of the property, perfect for setting up tables, chairs and a stage if needed. It also created the perfect look out point into the back of the property, dropping off into a ravine. A lot of focus throughout the project was the plant selection. With a large amount of garden beds, we wanted to maintain a clean and formal look, while still offering seasonal interest. We did this by edging the beds with boxwoods, adding white hydrangeas throughout the beds for constant colour, and subtle pops of purple and yellow. This along with the already breathtaking natural backdrop of the space, is more than enough to make this project stand out.
